Aretha has always admired Diana and I can't remember the words per se' but she stated that she's always thought of Diana as a quintessential star and wished she had her star quality and glamour...and this coming from the Queen of Soul - both two legendary performers who have gone down in American Music History.
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG I AM WEAK!!!! HOW FUNNY IS THAT!!?? Who ever knew aretha was a comedian as well as a great singer! Ive never seen a better impersonation of ms ross ...figues, it takes a great to do a great ...work out!
One thing both Aretha and Diana have in common. Both Covered songs and made them their Signiture song. Respect, Every one thinks thats Arethas song. it is not. Aretha covered the song. it was written and recorded and released by Otis Redding first. Aretha took it to No.1 Otis versions is rarely heard and did not chart near as well or even remembered. Aint No Mountain High Enough was recorded by Marvin Gaye n Tami Terrell first. Diana took it to No.1 theres got as far as 19. Diana made it hers.
I love this. It's a great tribute to the great Diana Ross by the great Aretha Franklin. Aretha gets Diana's unique phrasing basically right. Any time I've seen a Ross impression it's this song. Probably because her voice so so unique one's best bet it to imitate a song in which she mostly speaks! I love the backup singers. What a beat!
@divaenvy ur not missing nothing the song was written or at least rewritten for diana's voice so of course she would sing it better. its her signature song.. no disrespect to Aretha of course.
Diana Ross & Aretha Franklin have always performed each others' classic work brilliantly, and this is no exception. They're 2 sides of the same gospel-based coin;Aretha more raw, while Diana's more refined, both intensely dramatic, unique & special in their own rights. God bless them both!
These two great women, who've always admired each other, helped change the face & sound of popular music for all time. That, ALONE, is worth celebrating!

great to see Aretha was paying strict attention to what diana was doing at that time.. I'm sure Diana was doing the same with Aretha's stuff too.

Aretha... greatest voice bar none. But she missed the mark on this. I hope, taken out of context of the concert, I'm missing something.
