@Tchocke12 Interesting observation. I didn't think of that. Pope Julius II (also responsible for rebuilding St Peter's) established the Swiss Guard in early 1500's as the Pope's personal army. Although you do NOT want to mess w/these guys, considering all those men in black you saw in the video, along w/high sec system surrounding the Pope, I'm not sure what the modern day protocol of the Swiss Guards were at the mass. Next time I'm there I'll ask & let you know.
@aroadretraveled That will be much appreciated. From what I understand the swiss guards are supposed to be the only guards around the Pope at all time. Thank you for replying.
@Tchocke12 I'm sure they are, but being in the piazza surrounded by thousands of people places the Pope at greater risk (even though everyone has to pass through security first), that's why all those "men in black" :)
@aroadretraveled I would imagine the security being real tight. But I do have a feeling that whatever the Pope portrays in the prayers left with the swiss guard. He just doesn't seem to be the same man after the swiss guard entered the building.
Why did the swiss guard leave before him? What were the swiss guard escorting? If it's an act what is the purpose of it? Thank you.
