  • @TheHvacdude101

good luck with that goodman being really great...... your an idiot if you think a new goodman is better than anything, except maybe nordyn crap. also if you live in florida, and know your stuff than you would know that anything over 15 - 16 seer just doesnt work very well. there isnt any humidity control when you go that high.

hope you get a GREAT warrenty on that system, especially since it is mostly hacks who are installing goodmans....

  • @mritalian1 well dumbass, I'm going to be the tech installing it, and when I install it REALLY GREAT it will last a LONG time. You need to do some research on brands like Goodman that made BAD units a while back, but had a DRASTIC improvement now adays. If you want to watch the Goodman quality control video go to youtube user GoodmanGuy93's channel and watch the featured video.

  • this unit has been worked on b 4 those r not factory solder joints

  • Quality is compromised for the dollar every where these days-useless

  • How many bids have I lost going up against a "NOTHING STOPS A TRANE" piece of shit Trane dealer ! Trane is thee most over rated piece of crap out there.Yes,astetically it looks nice, but mechanically THEY SUCK !

  • @demmylowther I would love to re make that commercial. The new slogan would be" NOTHING STOPS A TRANE WRECK" I have a new unit that stops working every three weeks.......

  • that compressor could been out on overload, from a bad limit or someshit. far as the discoloration, i mean... not sure if thats from backward running, i think thats cuttin out on overload. but i im not 100percent.

  • a scroll cant run backwards!! you can however ATTEMPT to run it backwards if you have a compressor pulling LRA. doesnt normally work though. swapping the phase to unlock compressors normally only works on Pot compressors. shoulda check'd ya damn phase before installation.

  • See that discoloration on top of the scroll compessor. That would be a good indication on a brand new unit that it was out of phase and running the scroll compressor backwards. This would cause the system pressures to be all fucked up as well as the compressor running extremely hot. That would have been my first guess and it would explain all the cracking in different areas. I have seen scroll compressors run for a year or longer backwards because a proper start-up report was never done.

  • Scroll compressors running backwards do NOT pump refrigerant, they do, as you said, get extremly hot b/c of no refigerant flow=no colling for the compressor.

  • Comment removed

  • Who said anything about pumping. I said it was running backwards. Do you see the word PUMP anywhere? IT would cause system pressures to be out of ordinary. But you are correct in the regards that no flow = overheated compressor

  • i looked down and saw this. that explains what i was thinking of Rincon's comment above yours. i was fixin to say they cant run(or PUMP as you put it) backwards. that single word makes the difference between pump and run. my bad.

  • Just curious if the running pressures where normal on start-up. I've encoutered a problem where a tech pressure tested the line set with nitrogen, and someone else openned the isolation valves (without evacuating the nitrogen) mixing the refrigerant gas with nitrogen. The unit ran for a while and eventually leaked through the compressor wall (same spot actaully). It could have been done at the factory (maybe)? At the condensing unit of course.

  • huh... i seen dryers leak at the walls of the dryer. that's interesting your comment.

  • Looks like a freon mechanic did a number on this system before you got there.

"Well, shoot, it ain't cooling good ? Must be low on freon !!"

...and billybob dumps liquid into the low side until .... "Shoot, it don't look like it'll take any more".

I'm surprised that there weren't any leaks on the compressor seams. For a leak to develop on the compressor wall, well ... that takes some real effort !!!

  • u would have had to put in a new pump right?

  • I would say that this has to be a system problem and not a unit problem. Two many f....ups in one unit. The guy welding the pipes in the unit is not the same guy who made the compressor. If something is out of the ordinary look for other causes.

  • It was a BRAND NEW unit. Obviously a LEMON no matter how yo uslice it. It must have been BEER-THIRTY for whoever the factory worker was. I've liked Trane, but they don't hold a candle in quality of the old Tranes. Sorry. Not even the Voyager's I work on daily. Controls are nicer, but quality of piping and metal is cheap.

  • copeland scrolls!! woot

  • i've seen copper lines stretched too much and crack from being too thin but dont you think that after running for a year you suddenly pop all these leaks(especially one in the midle of the compressor, not even on a weld)dont u think something else is going on?? slugging? vibration?

  • It ran longer after the repair than it did before the repair. This company did some questionable installs especially on split systems, but this was not install related. And besides, the OLD Trane quality would have lasted a lot longer in worse conditions! This was a lemon if we ever did see one. My coworker did the repair and filmed this.

  • Could also be formicary corrosion depending on the install location. Chinese drywall in the home or nearby construction areas can cause the copper to corrode.

  • noted

  • In my experience its been harder to start a trane

  • Nice. That can be true sometimes.

  • Hey I thought we can stop a Trane...WTF ?

  • Well, it musta been "Beer-Thirty" on a Friday afternoon when the factory worker did this job!

  • now its easy to stop a trane(if its broken)!!

  • I have the same problem with my Trane 2004.

Never , ever I will buy another trane in my life

    Hugo Florida

  • They all seem to suck anymore. :( Trane sure has gone downhill though.

  • Made in China?

  • No. Texas I think.

  • are you sure that wasnt a payne with an orange copeland scroll hehe, same leak pattern.

  • LOL! Dude, I just fixed a leak on a discharge line off of the conpressor in a Carrier. One week later it sprung ANOTHER leak on the other end of the discharge line! A 1 inch long crack right on the elbow! Yeah, they were well known for leaking there. The Trane's weren't. That is why THIS unit was odd that it was so damn bad. Must have been BEER-THIRTY on a Friday afternoon for this Trane worker?

  • Well, the unit had to have a factory charge so the leaks couldn't of been there to start or it would have little or none refrigerant in it from the install and it would have been caught then. It happened while it ran prob vibrations.

  • Oh defenitely. It ran at start up but leaked within a year. This was RARE for a Trane. That's why I posted it. Maybe a disgruntal employee that day?

  • hackfree, Trane dont build shitty units. shitty hackers like you can even manage to destroy a Quality Trane piece of equipment. happy hacking. loser

  • The video was taken by a co-worker at the time. The unit was NEW and non of these parts previously replaced. It was just a FACTORY P.O.S. And my point was even TRANE can make a lemon. Thanks for the intelligent comments BTW.

  • Well, At my school we have a 20 ton intellipak rooftop unit by Trane. It was just one year old and they had to replace a Cornerstone scroll copressor out of it. The 40 ton Intellipak Trane unit on the other side of the building with the same compressor that was installed at the same time is a great unit. Maybe this one and the one at my school could both could just be lemons.

  • Oh they probably are. This was a one of a kind find here. We didn't have the same problems on other Tranes. We're not talking GOODMAN's here where they were more known to LEAK than NOT LEAK LOL!

  • I wonder what the reason for all those leaks was? was the compressor vibrating a lot? I always try to find the reason behind a failure, and I can't figure this one out... Why was there so many leaks at the same time? would it not stop at low pressure? It must have run out of "R" at some point! By the way.. I love your movies! they keep me doing a better job for my customers:) (sorry about my english skills, I am norwegian;-D)

  • LOL thanks. This was a one of a kind problem. Unlike how GOODMAN is known to have leaks in the same place on every heat pump. This one threw the tech for a loop! Trane's usually don't use low pressure switches! I guess they really trust their compressors to be bulletproof. But low charge is bad news on compressor valves!

  • no valves in scrolls

  • wonder how this got by quality control at the factory. Used to see stress cracks on the discharge line every once in a while on the top right side of that bend. Came from line guy not inspecting that pipe before installing it. Usually split during shipping from stress. What did the factory do about it?

  • Nothing probably. They just want the dealer (install company) to fix it like shown in this video. Not like they'd EVER warranty out the entire unit. They just pay the co. warranty labor and parts.

  • Probably the head pressure was screaming. All the leaks on the high side. Would happen to any unit. Who put this unit in?

  • Well this company does fu*k up a lot of split unit installs, but this was a PACKAGE XL1400 Trane. Brand new. Was not head pressure problem. Just goes to show you that even Trane are building some piece of shit's these days. :(

  • Trane is the best bar none. Ever see any data on any other manufactures compressor going 20+ years under continuous flood back. She finally failed after 27 years of continuous floodback. Rest in peace Snowball. Trane is going through a transitional period, but its still the most reliable and durable stuff out there.

  • good gear but I believe snowball was a GE compressor. American Standard/Trane bought a tough design when they purchased the GE executive and weathertron unitary products div.Got lots of them still out there over 30 years and still kicking. I still have the old GE bible!

  • what are you talkin about trane is one of the best... goodman and amer. standard cant compare... you ppl are on crack

  • LOL well in this video it was a RARE find on a Trane to find all of them leaks! Usually Goodman's and Carrier's have the typical leaks in the tubing.

BTW, The only difference between a Trane unit and a American Standard unit is the name badge on the unit. Otherwise they are the same thing built by the same company.

  • yup ur right about trane and american standand wat was i thinkin

  • Where is this made? Are any still made in the US? Amana Goodman is Good quality, American Std is Quality unit, the Carrier group has back slid consierably and the Trane Really lost groundin the quality dept. The real heartache is most all installs do not make SEER posted on the literature or on the unit even in the best install hard to find a mfr who can make the seer on a unit and these poor installs just really degrade the efficincy of the system at the consumers expense, 19seer makin 12 pity

  • "19seer makin 12 pity " I assume you saw all the XL19i's I showed with poor installs? LOL yeah. Amd around here Goodman isn't really considered GOOD quality. They are low end units...the CHEAP units anyway. Although I have to agree, they aren't making them CHEAPER than they used to. They actually have fixed a few problem areas over the past few years. So basically they probably are becoming more equal these days! Except for the price!

  • typical trane junk, dont surprize me at all

  • You mean typical NEWER Trane junk? They used to not be that way. Now they are having problems similar ot Goodman and Carrier.
