  • You need practise the rithm

  • @XxNostaleNinjaXx You need to practice English..

  • @XxNostaleNinjaXx you need to practice your spelling :P

  • There´s something special with this tune; I´ve played it on trumpet, guitar, piano, saxophone, recorder and violin, and it sounds awesome on every instrument.

  • I can play it on guitar, sound much better on a lute!

  • Sounds good, you should work on timing a though.

  • :'( where can i get a lute?

  • needs a whammy bar

  • nice work!! a little bit to fast, but it sounds good!!

  • assassins creed me veio na cabeça na hora que vi este violão

  • Sublime.

  • @imafreemanfornow

i think yes, i play guitar and i`ve been able to play other stringed instruments

  • OMG Lutes still exist???? WOW

  • @CutieWarrior123 I suppose the Lute is one of those instruments that will never die.

  • Thank You from one musician to another ;-)

  • this should be in stronghold

  • im building a 1600-century Renaissance Luteat the very moment, one like this :D

  • @GaleoDeus hi, you did an amazing job!

BTW, i am trying 2 buy a lute, but i can't find any shop that sells lutes...

    Do you know any?

    thanks!

  • @xandbochi Ebay you can get good ones to start on for around $450

  • @DrKorn5 Oh, i forgot about Ebay, ( somehow O.o )

    Thanks!

  • My favorite song! You play it wonderfully I want this as my ringtone. Where would someone learn to play a lute, or for that matter, buy one?

  • Quite well done. Where did you get your initial notions from? the right hand is rather good, although you should keep your fingers more relaxed.

On your left hand you should work a bit more. A common mistake is to keep it "high", like a violinist; you want to keep the thumb and "heel" of your hand lower.

Do you still play? and btw, where did you get the instrument from? who is the maker?

  • practice your flow :) otherwise great :)

  • This is wonderful

  • Here's 5 golds for ya, bard.

  • Can you play "The Age of Oppression'?

  • Dude where did you even find a lute??

  • Play Under the Sun from Korpiklaani please!

  • Awesome!!!

  • Yah! Sounds great!

  • you are amazing! this is the best greensleeves ive heard on an instrument like this ever!!! i like the melody and harmony (: keep playing!

  • OMFG AFUCKING LUTE YES!!!

  • Wonderful sound: congratulation for the instrument choice you've done! :D bravo!

  • King Henry the VIII DID write this song because I saw it on the Tudors and we all know if we see something on television it HAS to be true. Right? But it is all for naught as our world will be ending this year in Dec of 2012 because I saw that on the History channel and therefore it must be true. Right? Please take may word for all this because I am an expert on the subject ever since I emailed for and used PayPal to receive my very own degree from an online college.

  • @darinwood2002 My god, you are a fucking genius.

  • Where does one acquire a lute? Because I've been wanting one for a really long time and I haven't been able to find one. I mean, I haven't really been looking.... but it would help if you pointed me in the right direction! :)

  • i dunno maybe its the right speed, but i have the song at home, but a picking version and its a little bit slow

  • its good but played too quickly

  • @BGW101 Reall? And how fast does the composer say it should be played?

  • I want a lute to add to my stringed instrument skills

  • That was amazing :)

  • I love that medieval sound that the lute gives beautiful ear candy

  • @bradydrobny the bards in the inns play this song. i think it is titled the _____ of opression

  • Skyrim?

  • It sounds pretty nice all in all mate :) Your technique and your rendition of this is quite nice.

Although I do have some advice for you. Please know that this is not intended as negative.

I could be wrong, but it seems you were either a bit out of beat at some points or your tempo dragged a little.

Greensleeves is usually played in 3/4.

If you can afford a metronome/already have a metronome, it can help great deals to always play with a metronome.

  • For a tough piece on a difficult instrument, it sounds pretty damned good to me.

  • I have wondered what the name of this song is for more than fourteen years of searching and torture. Thank you. You have done unto me an un-repayable debt.

  • I feel like I knew this song before birth. Lovely to hear it played on a Lute, well done.

  • where did you buy it?? plz!

  • i am looking to buy a lute, and ive read you can only play certain songs on certain lutes. can you give me some advice and some more info on this, thanks. everythingbot :)

  • This is really cool! I really wish there were a longer version of you playing this song. This is soooo coool that I am actually gonna download this as an mp3.

  • @AlbinoFoxRacer we Play heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy metal rock. my band mate has a machine that he sets up and it counts how many notes you play on the guitar per minute and I hit 95 notes per minute which is very fast some people hit 100 notes per minute.

  • gets in ya heart dosent it. just lovely xxx

  • do tale of the dragon born lol

  • This is so freaking beautiful!

  • I betest thou gets all thine medieval chicks. Partyest on, broeth.

  • @twinsboy48 remember, bretheren before wenches!

  • @tsb5137 lol nice

  • @twinsboy48 I beteth thouth claims all thine heavenly medieval women. Partyeth on, brother

  • @twinsboy48 That was hillarious!

  • Where did you get the instrument?!?! Awesome tone!!!

  • is this the morrowind theme?

  • not to be that one guy, but this guy totally looks like jack from AHWU (roosterteeth) but unlike jack, this guy kicks ass at lute, which is awesome because hardly anyone plays or can play lute awesome song,

  • anyone know where i can get a cheap lute for about £50? doubt it but it's worth asking :')

  • Way to go!

  • Very nice. Greensleeves or What Child is this can be played beautifully on most stringed instruments.

  • dude this is beautiful

  • what a lovely piece of music on a very classic instrument. I enjoyed it immensely! Where did you get your lute? it's gorgeous and you play it like a seasoned pro. Thanks for this - I am desperate for a folk/classical instrument like a lute or bouzouki or even a bowlback mandolin. NOWHERE to be FOUND for less then ten grand and I don't have that sort of gelt.

  • Nice. I play it on the celtic harp.

  • do you come from Luton?

  • @COMMUNISTPHILOSOPHY I come from luton! this guy looks familiar

  • the glorious and brutally sinister middle ages

  • beautiful sound an song!!!

  • 13 people have no taste in music. this is realy good

  • as if voices sang- very nice

  • I love Greensleeves, and you playing it, beautiful :)

  • Don't see why everyones complaining about luteing in London ...

  • Lute and mandolin are better than guitar. Nice playing. Nice music already :)

    If you want to see more performance on lute;

*Johann Sebastian Bach - Fugue in G Minor BWV 1000

*Johann Sebastian Bach - Suite in E major BWV 1006a

*Antonio Lucio Vivaldi - Concerto For Lute, Viola D'amore and Strings in D Minor, Allegro

  • @D2Ci You cant say an instrument is better then another instrument. It dosnt make sense i can play all 3, lute, mandolin, and guitar and there all great. It depends on how skilled that person is with the instrument.

  • overall a very good sounding piece however at points your bass seemed a bit abrupt and harsh other than that WOW! terrific work

  • hey man terrific playing this is awesome. What kind of lute is that and where could one be found?

  • Comment removed

  • awesome!

  • Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Bravo!

  • wow..meraviglioso e affascinante..

  • Pretty amazing, I'm trying to learn this piece on my guitar...isn't easy

  • pretty good

  • Fantastic! What tuning do you use? Very nice technique. Your melody sounds well and distinct over the continuo bass. I thought it sounded very well connected, and you have a good, round sound that few lutenists seem to have. Keep playing (and posting!)

  • @MrWatercolorguy

Wow you are too kind. I mean that literally haha.

I was using standard 8c tuning here, very similar to the modern guitar. I was also using equal temperament, as this is before I fell in love with meantone tuning.

Alas, I haven't touched the lute in almost 2 years. Makes me sad.

  • @GaleoDeus you need to get back out there and play again you have inspired me to keep playing the electric guitar and my band mates already call me "The Man With The Devils Hands" beacuse I play so fast and so well. You have inspired me to keep going and keep playuing ang keep acomplishing.Go back out there ma and pick up the lute, the instrument of beauty and play. do it for all other people who want beatiful music do it for me as well.Go and put your mind, body, soul, and spirit in your music

  • @GaleoDeus i'd be glad to take that off your hands :)

  • @MrWatercolorguy -this instument could have endless waves of vibratonic saluations if connected to a synthezised board or effects pedal set-up!it sounds great plain and mono-But playued on loud -speakers ...it would enchant the whole forest all Day!!! TRY IT AND listen!!!extrodinary!!!

  • beautiful! :')

  • woahh the sounds so pretty. looks complicated! :P ur really good at it though not many people would be able to do this if their lives depended on it

    <3

  • first time I'd witnessed a lute being played, sounded right nice.

  • its like a sawed off classical guitar only a little bit different

  • Where do you find a lute? I found some websites, but they don't look too legit.

  • Brilliant

  • You played this very good!

    Thank you! :D

  • what's the name of that instrument??

  • @adioguy14 Its a lute :)

  • LUTE

  • very beeautiful!!

  • @Piccobow I agree, its very calm.

  • Gorgeous! What a lovely sound. Thanks for the awesome post!

  • That was a good performance

  • True, it's myth that Henry VIII wrote the song, it's Elizabethan. Even Shakespeare gives it a mention.

  • Personally I liked it a lot. I learn myself guitar, bass and keyboards and I know what self taught means! Keep on

  • Good :) I play it on guitar, never heard that on a luth ^^

  • awesome dude!

  • How hard is it to adapt to lute from guitar?

  • It was originally written for lute, as far as I know. So I guess it's pretty "simple" :p

  • @smedaas Ah, no I mean how hard would it be to learn lute if you already play guitar.

  • Ah, thought you meant the tune.

  • @smedaas Sorry for my wording. Thanks anyway though!

  • Tune G string to F# and capo 3rd fret and you can play 6 course lute pieces on your guitar if you want to get an idea of how the fingering works.

  • @GetBackJack123 in a way youll like

  • i can play that on the piano : D i know the lyrics too ;D

  • @InuFurry lyrics?!?!!

  • xDD wouldnt that be funny?

  • there are lyrics for greensleeves actually O.o

the melody should actually be sung, i dont know the lyrics but the start goes:

"alas, my love, ye do me wrong, to cast me off discourtiously, and i have loved you so much, delighting in your company"

  • Nice tone! What kind of lute is that? When was it made?

  • Very well done! You have a good tone.

Regarding technique, how flat is your little finger on the sound board? It is hard to tell with the angle. To get the best tone I have been taught to pit the top end side of the right hand little finger flat on the soundboard - then curl your hand over the strings. This gets a very soft sound. Forgive me if you're already doing this! I can't see very well with the camera angle. ;)

    Jamie

  • I listened before I read and didn't think you were a beginner. Good job.

  • Excellent going...the only thing i can say is perhaps keep your left hand at a more oblique (closer to 90 degree angle) to the frets, it helps to keep a crisper sound because of the courses and is technically more historically acurate. Dont worry mate, i know its more difficult than it looks, you should try some of the many variations on its theme now and put your skills to the test!!!

  • good job,.

  • Henry VIII didnt write this.

alot of people think that he wrote this but it was written after he died.

  • Nobody knows who wrote this song

  • Juliaego is correct, the original composer's identity was lost over the course of history and now no one knows who really wrote it.

  • Very good! I always wanted to play the lute, but can not find any at a decent price.

  • yup... for a normal quality lute you've already got to pay about 700 € .

  • It's great, you're playin' this instrument :) Remember: lute is not a guitar and you shouldn't play on it like on guitar - I'm sayin' about left and right hand (left especially). I don't know how to explain it in english, but I'll try ;) You should keep lower side of your left heand near the neck.

  • wow the lute is such an intresting instument lol

  • You might want to use a metronome on a slow tempo for this one, because as a drum/theory teacher and artist I noted you went off beat many times. Your technique is plausible and I enjoyed your performance very much. Maybe you should see into purchasing a cheap metronome. Who knows - maybe it'll improve your rhythm trekking. Otherwise, bravo!

  • Bravo, the best teacher you can have is yourself.

  • for self taught thats really good, how hard is it to play, and how much for a lute???

  • belissimo (beautiful) keep on learning

  • pretty good for a begginer. you put emphasis on every 4th beat.

i highly recomend you look up the video "Benjamin Zander: classical music with shining eyes"

  • I think it's good - just keep practicing intelligently and you are bound to improve as much as you want - these things take time and work!

  • i suppose the proper terminology is "jerkin".

  • jerkin

  • that is a nice hospital gown.

  • funny comment Momo !

  • this peace is very pretty, and you do it justice, but because you asked for comments on you technique, I will offer you some constructive criticism.

while a fairly easy peace such as this might not need perfect technique, you really should take classical guitar or lute lessons, because no offense, but you technique really could be better. as a classical guitarist, i once tried teaching myself, but when i finally decided to take lessons, i realized how much i had wrong. lessons would help a lot!

  • wow really good for a self taught beginner...hats off to u buddy..and all the best

  • Where can you get 1 from?

  • Wow, you are good!

  • (Part two:) Anyway, you have to know to play (very slow(!), but good) without looking up your fingers, and (can) listen! what do you play. So it have to be for the beginning very very slow - and than you can correct your music yourself;-)

  • (Part one:)Ad technique (you wrote I may write:-) ) - I think it´s necesarry to play first only technical exercises (p. e. scales and some other things good for finger-knowing the fingerboard and where is which string of the lute), than to go to some lute workshop:-) - it´s not possible to describe renaissance lute technique (and there are many variants of it). To be continue...

  • The lute may be a funny looking instrument, but you play it very well.

  • DUDE U ROCK PLAY IN MY BAND HELL YEAH

  • Very nice Gallelao. I like early music too. I play this on harpsichord if you want to watch.

  • on what side did you get those tabs ?

  • I like much your approach to music, and the qualities (artistic and tech: great audio!)

of your videos. Congratulations, examples as yours make me happy.

  • Thankyou for such kind words.

  • I like much your approach to music and the quality of your videos. Congratulations.

  • where can i buy a badass lute?

  • the sound so beautiful

    I love it

  • Thanks!

  • Beutyful! Try conect more the notes, like singing. Give to each note diferents levels of volume, like when we speaks, whit diferentes acents in which note. You can do this, and will be more interesting.

    Congratulations!
