1943, Igor Gouzenko arrived at Canada to become a cipher clerk in the Soviet Embassy. Gouzenko gathered up more than 100 documents including the Canadian Department of Defence. Gouzenko was going to use this information as a bargaining chip as he sought asylum in Canada. First, Gouzenko had trouble finding people to listen to his story. Four men from the Soviet Embassy tried to abduct Gouzenko and his family. The police stopped them. Now the government started to look at them seriously.

The reason he was running from the KGB was because after living in canada and working as a Cypher Clerk in the russian embassy for a few years decided that he no longer wanted to be a member of the soviet union. One evening he then defected by leaving the russian embassy with over a hundred documents with information on Soviet espionage in canada and turning them and himself into the RCMP, Mackenzie king's secretary then gave gouzenko and family asylum in Canada, to live protected from the KGB.

Igor Gouzenko had his and his families identities change by the canadian government so that russian embassy members or KGB could not find them. He also changed his appearance to protect himself and therefore when appearing on television wears this white hood so that his new appearance would not be revealed.

Dunno, but as he came to Canada in 1945, and was running from the KGB, I'm guessing even if he did know about the KKK, it probably wasn't his top priority. He probably started wearing it then, and just continued with it when in public.

im learning about him in grade ten history, i understand what happened to him/ what he did concerning the soviet union. but why does he cover his face?

cause russians would have found him and murdered him, do nhe didnt want his neighbors to recognize him. cause russian did wanted to kill him,
