Even though this is about an chinease immigrant living the American dream, this entire song would be considered racist in this day, and age, because of pussies afraid of hurting someone's "precious feelings."
I just like it......I don't find it racist.....To never talk about our cultural differences would be such a shame....it's so neat to read about, sing about, and even use in fun lyrics subject matter that bring other countries and cultures to the table... Lots of fun....
The lyrics are a little strange (not the typical subject you'd sing about), but I love the music!
I thought it was the Andrews Sisters until I read the comments. Wikipedia says this was performed by Betty Allan, Diane Pendleton and Gloria Wood.
Racist? This sort of thing was very common back then. No harm was intended. Silly generalizations made the rounds about Italians then, too (and still do) and my Dad - who was 100% Italian - would laugh his head off. So would I.
I hope I don't sound like a bad person, but I don't see the problem with this cartoon. I think its cute. I mean, you see A LOT of worse stuff today.
But in fact, there IS a small problem, and that this cartoon is a CHILDRENS cartoon and they shouldn't show kids diversity-type cartoons (hope i'm using the correct words)
Wow. I've never seen this and I though I'd seen all Disney cartoons of the 50s and 60s. I wonder if this was branded "racist" and swept under the rug, ala Song of the South?
Actually, almost exactly ten years ago, the Disney Channel ran this featurette during Vault Disney. I taped it then, and wound up watching it a zillion times. In case you were wondering, this song was cut from the Disney Channel airing. I long suspected that the aired version was cut, since the 1940's was missing. I was so glad to finally see the complete version on the Disney Treasures DVD, ten years later. I must confess, though, that it is understandable why Disney originally cut it.
ME FOUR! I had THE hardest laugh of my life with my friend watching this cartoon at around 4am one night, when Ludwig comes out at the end and starts 'composing' his own music. I never thought I'd see it again, but maybe you can be my savior!

What's racist? The guy works hard, runs a business, and gets the ladies with his delicious cookies.
He's living the dream.

@Matt10670 It's racist because of his over accentuated unattractive features

Animation reminds me of Life with Loopy shorts from Kablam.

This isn't so bad...I think they went a bit to far with "Honorable Trash Box" though.

what if they werent aware of the differences in race back then, you gotta understand at that point countries were bashing heads.

I miss this disarmingly charming and innocent brand of racism.

Is that supposed to be The Andrews Sisters?

No, they are not in this, and are not credited in here either.

No, it's supposed to be a *parody* of the Andrews Sisters. :^)

There were several other groups like them around that period but they were by far the most famous
