I thought it was the Andrews Sisters until I read the comments. Wikipedia says this was performed by Betty Allan, Diane Pendleton and Gloria Wood.

Racist? This sort of thing was very common back then. No harm was intended. Silly generalizations made the rounds about Italians then, too (and still do) and my Dad - who was 100% Italian - would laugh his head off. So would I.

I hope I don't sound like a bad person, but I don't see the problem with this cartoon. I think its cute. I mean, you see A LOT of worse stuff today.

But in fact, there IS a small problem, and that this cartoon is a CHILDRENS cartoon and they shouldn't show kids diversity-type cartoons (hope i'm using the correct words)

Wow. I've never seen this and I though I'd seen all Disney cartoons of the 50s and 60s. I wonder if this was branded "racist" and swept under the rug, ala Song of the South?

Actually, almost exactly ten years ago, the Disney Channel ran this featurette during Vault Disney. I taped it then, and wound up watching it a zillion times. In case you were wondering, this song was cut from the Disney Channel airing. I long suspected that the aired version was cut, since the 1940's was missing. I was so glad to finally see the complete version on the Disney Treasures DVD, ten years later. I must confess, though, that it is understandable why Disney originally cut it.
