  • karl was no stranger to naked little men as he was arrested for picking up a male teenage hustler !,

  • A truely great actor.

  • A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE is my all-time favorite movie and it won Best

Actress(Vivien Leigh), Best Supporting Actress(Kim Hunter), and of course, the

late, great Karl Malden won as well. My only regret is that Marlon Brando did not

win his first Oscar for this film, as nobody deserved it more than he did.

  • Oh Danny makes me laugh!

  • I don't like the fact that she said "oh good" right before saying Karl Malden's name, even if he DID deserve to win. I find that remark to be a little insulting to the rest of the nominees that year (including a favorite of mine, Gig Young).

Now having said that, I do love Clair Trevor and Karl Malden :)

  • He deserved it,incredible actor and to this date the best "Mitch"Ive ever seen!

  • claire trevor better werque that dress!!!!!!!

  • Karl Malden was much better than Richard Burton was

  • Claire Trevor is very lovely indeed. I love her movies so much. They are so hard to find. I have found quite a few though at lovingtheclassics I just googled lovingtheclassics after reading about them on another youtube classic (i think it was alan ladd)

If you like Claire Trevor, then check them out.

  • Loved him in that movie!! Well deserved. RIP Karl.

So interesting that this is in color, and even in much better condition than the b&w footage of later years.

  • The reason why Karl was bad ass is because he was famous as a pure actor of ability and intellect. Let's face it Brando was the best but much of his fame is because all the girls wanted to fuck him. He was a pimp. Karl was famous on pure ability. I'm not saying he was ugly. He was just normal looking like me. Nothing special. That guy was smart as hell, too

  • For Karl Malden the best actor of all time was Marlon. What you say about that stupid fuck.If you dont consider Brando the best actor of all time you dont know shit about acting

  • @cellardoor199991 Yeah because everyone wanted to do Brando when he was Don Corleone, right?

  • @AashiquiTheri you're an idiot. I suggest you look@ the Marlon Brando films.....genius.

  • @cellardoor199991 Yeah because everyone wanted to do Brando when he was Don Corleone, right?

  • Awh, God Bless Him :)

  • Beautiful dress...

  • Was this colorized? RCA hadn't began commercially using their system back in 1952. CBS used a proprietary color system at that time that required a special receiver equipped with a rapidly spinning wheel. I believe the first colorcast of the Oscars was in 1966.

  • your are correct in '66 Oscar went to color on ABC.

dont know what this was in 1951, although some news thing may have filmed it as oscars did not hit TV until 1953!

  • Why are your videos not made for Syndication? Pleeeeeese make them for syndication!

  • RIP Karl. You were one of the best!

  • GIG YOUNG SHOULDA WON!!!!!!!!!

  • we like danny kaye's SCREAM !

  • This was probably first or second year it was televised - because this was only about the third or fourth year there was television !

  • I didn't like it when,Claire Trevor said,oh good it's Karl Malden. that was totally uncalled for,she showed no class what so ever in doing so.

  • I appreciate your opinion, dperez1963. But what's wrong with a little spontaneity? And among professionals like Ms. Trevor as an actor, who hasn't felt good when someone doing very good work unrecognized finally does get recognized.

I can't read Ms. Trevor's mind, but I think that's what she had in mind.

  • in a interview they did with karl malden he said he was so nervous that night he got stuck into traffic on his way 2 the oscars and humphrey bogart was sitting behind him and he had a coat that he borrowed from a friend and he asked bogart to watch it and he said yes and when he went backstage 4 press and bogart won that year 4 best actor and karl asked "What did you do with my coat?" and bogart looked at him and said "Fuck you coat u just won an oscar!!!!"

  • Wow. this was so long ago.

  • 0:18 , did a dying whale slip into the ceremony?

  • @TheSuppActress love it when people notice stuff like that great job halarious watched it 5,6 times laughing

  • Karl Malden was totaly better than Gregory Peck was

  • Peter Oss-TIN-off??

  • Peter Ustinov (Quo Vadis)

  • Yes, that's the way it should be pronounced.

  • he so deserved it!

  • Is that what you call a speech?

  • Classy Claire Trevor...

  • Great clip with radio commentary from Paul Douglas-ex-announcer then movie star. This was not on TV then-no coverage until `1953- so would love to know where poster obtained film and does he have the entire ceremony?

  • the poster is the Academy itself!

    thaaaaaaa

  • great footage! i would love to see the whole show!....i'd love to trail through the Oscar archives.

And why didn't Brando win that year??? He deserved it

  • Great performance in a memorable film. RIP Karl Malden.

  • malden was a great actor

    this is so cool

  • Malden was a great serious professional artist, respected by the entire establishment....we'll never remember him.

    r.i.p. big nose

  • "we'll never remember him"?

    I disagree.

  • I guess he (she?) wanted to say: we'll never FORGET him.

  • I love watching these old clips and how honest the presenters were when awarding them. You couldn't get away with a comment like "good, it's so-and-so" today.

    Keep posting them!

  • A great actor, and a great way to remember him by the Academy! Thanks again!

  • COLOR? since when in 1952?

  • RIP

  • No. 1 RIP Karl Malden, a brilliant actor. No. 2 Look at Claire Travor! All the fashonistas, stylists etc of today couldn't even hope to equal that glamour!

  • I love how she named the studios that released the nominated movies.

    Hollywood sure was different then.

  • "oh good!"

  • Love the "sportscaster-like" commentary.

    RIP Mr. Malden

  • very well deserved win. farewell mr. malden.

  • Yeah, that editorial comment from Claire was TACKY.

  • This reminds me of an artist who won a grammy a few years back and all he said was, "Thank You" and walked off. Cracked me up!

  • Danny Kaye was a raging homosexual.

  • Wow color!

  • Thank you for this one! I didn't realize that you had video of the pre-televised ceremonies.

  • Goodbye Karl!

  • amazing performance

  • Well deserved.

Malden was one of the few living acting legends.

    RIP

  • Rest in Peace, Mr. Malden...

  • He really deserved it. I think he was a goog president of the academy

  • RIP.Great actor, academy award winner and person...great Oscar.

  • w00t!

  • Who's doing the color commentary?

  • RIP Karl, a fine actor.

  • 1st comment bitches!!!

  • RIP Karl
