  • Here is a start we can fire your cowardly ass and save $174000 per year, perhaps an additional $14,000 a year from the raise you gave yourself in your so called budget.

  • Ryan's plan would give billions more to the insurance companies via vouchers. And where does the money for those vouchers come from? You and me, that's who!

Can you say CORPORATE WELFARE??? This nigger (Ryan) should know better! F U Ryan and the rest of your corporate slave (GOP) buddies!

  • @TheKmbt Ryans idea yes may increase profits for Insurance companies, but it almost eliminates Medicare taxes on the American people by not forcing a certain plan on the population only using Medicare for people 55 and older so they can't be denied for pre existing conditions. He uses a Libertarian idea of choice on Health Care and does not make it a force on force tax you get what you pay for and chose your own plan with the support of the federal gov. maybe you should check out his budget plan

  • @TheKmbt guess their not only the gas and oil party

  • Congressman Paul Ryan = Corporate puppet

He's going places alright, Hitler's saving him a spot in Hell.

  • @Mephazel Based on what, him telling the truth? Smearing people and lying about them reserves you a place there also.

  • @ToddAldrich

Hello Todd Aldrich. I am not lying, he is a corporate puppet. He's all for cutting the corporate tax rate, & cutting taxes for the wealthy. This is fact. He also wants to cut back on social sevices like Social Security & Medicare. In fact he would like to privatize both & give them to the Corporations. I love it when a Repub like Ryan aeccepts Social Security benefits for himself, but when he no longer needs it, he wants to cut them for others. Typical Conservative. Wake up Todd.

  • @Mephazel Cutting those tax rates both helps to create jobs AND helps to keep jobs from going overseas! Yes that IS a fact and it is about fucking time someone tells the TRUTH about what liberal policies are doing to our country! He does NOT want to cut back on SS & medicare - he wants to SAVE them.In addition to saving them, it would make those people receiving benefits FAR better off. Either way a different POLITICAL opinion is hardly justification for your vile insult.

  • @Mephazel Let's compare one of the favorite liberal lies to the truth - SS. Even after the crashes- according to the SSA, a person making $30K starting work in 1990, working until he was 67 years old in 2039 would have a monthly retirement amount of $1,411.00. That SAME person, if he were to have invested the money he and his employer sent to SS, would have $1,967,640.41 if he JUST got the average Compound Annual Growth Rate of the S&P 500 since 1900. That includes the crashes

  • @ToddAldrich

Yes Todd. It is very cute that you have taken an interest in politics. It's just a little disappointing that you've placed your brain inside of the little box you've been given. That's the beauty of #'s Todd, we can take fractional information & asign #'s to them & call it truth, & in a sense, it is truth. The entire American monetary system is a ponzi scheme run by the fed. Cling to it my friend. Trickle down economics failed & you are failing as an American. You covet, Todd.

  • @Mephazel The FED sucks-I'll give you that, but if you hate the Fed, you should LOVE Ryan and Rand Paul and the rest of the Tea Party candidates. However Trickle down economics succeeded beyond any possible dream-a VERY high % of the jobs created since 1960 have come from reduced taxes. I PERSONALLY consulted on taking several companies public and helped them grow (MicroSoft being one). It wouldn't have happened without Reagan's tax cuts. The tax incentives to investors helped pave the way.

  • @Mephazel In my consulting, I am constantly trying to find ways to keep companies from leaving this country - but high taxes, regulations and our litigious business atmosphere make it increasingly difficult to help them to stay here. --- AND THEY DO WANT to stay here, but Liberal policies are literally driving them either out of business, or overseas.I don't covet at all, I am doing quite well. I want OTHERS to do well also and it pains me to see some tin bit moron playing class warfare games.

  • @ToddAldrich

I agree, Liberal policies like the minimum wage are driving business overseas. I also agree with you that these lazy elderly people should be Euthanized with a voucher system program like the one Ryan suggests. I suppose now you're going to tell me that the 50's & 60's didn't exist & the middle class was built off of war profit. Please Todd, enlighten the youtube community. I run a business myself & don't mind paying my a little more. Bernie Sanders is a better rep then any T Bag.

  • @Mephazel

You are really an evil person. NO ONE wants to Euthanize our elderly people, and you implying that is what Ryan (or anyone else) wants, is beyond despicable. Why can't you argue with REAL facts instead of making up phoney straw-man arguements? Are your positions that WEAK??

The 50's and 60's most certainly existed and the REASON for our prosperity then was the fact that WE HAD NO COMPETITION. ALL other industrialized nations were reduced to rubble. Wake the fuck up.

  • @ToddAldrich

The voucher system that Ryan suggests will not cover the costs of medical care for most senior citizens. That is a fact. What happens after the voucher $ is gone? Yes, caring for the elderly is Evil. Keep parroting El Rushbo's talking points, Todd, it makes you seem relevant. Be your own man Todd, at least try. Ryans system is flawed.

Are you saying American exceptionalism didn't exist in the 50's & 60's? Is there a difference in trade these days Todd, compared to then?

  • @Mephazel First off, you are wrong on Ryan's plan. But I find it exceedingly amusing when you talking about the voucher money running out.

Have you looked at the financial shape of Medicare under the CURRENT plan? It is about to go under and NO ONE will have care under this program.

Try actually THINKING before you type next time.

  • @ToddAldrich

I never said it didn't need fixing, it does, just not this clowns version. Ryan’s savings all come from cuts, and at least 2/3 of them come from programs serving the poor. It is not courageous to attack the weak while supporting your party’s most inane and damaging fiscal orthodoxies. Here's the trick that gives Ryan his savings. His idea says the fed govt's contributions to Medicare and Medicaid can’t grow at more than the rate of inflation. He told CBO to score his plan based on.

  • @ToddAldrich

Health-care costs don’t grow at the rate of inflation. Ever. His Roadmap capped fed contributions between inflation and the actual cost of med care. He then developed a more bipartisan version of the idea with Alice Rivlin, who founded the CBO and directed the Office of Management and Budget under Clinton. That one was capped at the growth of GDP plus 1 percentage point. Both targets were far more plausible than this fantasy target Ryan is now using. Reading is fundamental.

  • @Mephazel The reason it doesn't grow at the rate of inflation is that we keep subsidizing it.

The areas where the consumer actually comparatively shops are actually DECREASING in costs. Lasik surgery, cosmetic surgery etc.

The problem is that consumer is being removed from his VITAL role of comparative shopper and the ultimate determinant of value. By adding layers of Bureaucracy, we are going the wrong direction.

  • @Mephazel The Free market works - WHEN YOU LET IT.

  • @ToddAldrich

Todd, says, "The Free market works when you let it." & yet earlier Todd says we need to subsidize Oil Corps. Are you able to see your own hypocrisy? It doesn't change the fact that Ryan's plan is a farse. Ryan’s plan won’t control costs so much as shift them to seniors. And the CBO agrees. It concluded that Ryan’s privatization would add to Medicare’s costs. In 2030, Medicare insurance, CBO estimates, would cost 60 percent as much as the private options Ryan is offering. *TRUTH*

  • @Mephazel Which CBO report - The CBO does good work, but they are only allowed to look at the situation they are specifically given.

For example, with the Health care bill, in one study, they were told to ASSUME that tax revenues would be "X" dollars, and to ignore that 7 years of implementing the bill would be paid for with taxes from 10 years. that was how Dems could use the CBO to claim it would save us $

  • @ToddAldrich

Sorry about the Oil remark, Todd. You say nothing about Oil subsidies in these posts.

  • @Mephazel Thank you, I was just about to go ballistic. I support NO subsidies whatsoever. Washington should NOT be giving favors to ANY industry over another. The reason we have corruption with our politicians is because those politicians have the power to give money to companies or to cause hardship for them.

Washington should not have that power AT ALL. Our Constitution prohibits such things, but modern power hungry politicians don't care about the COnstitution anymore.

  • @ToddAldrich

Agree on subsidies & once again, I appologize. Mixed yours in with a different conversation.

    cbo.gov/ftpdocs/121xx/doc12128/04-05-Ryan_Letter.pdf

Under Ryan’s plan, seniors would pay two-thirds of the cost, while under traditional Medicare, they’d pay only 25 percent.

  • @ToddAldrich

    cbo gov/doc cfm?index=12128

This link may work better. (dots [.] go in spaces) ( cbo[dot]gov/doc[dot]cfm?index=12128 )

On a related note: I would just like to say that the reason why people post such short, noninformative posts is because of the way youtube messages are set up. I always find it annoying to squeeze info into limited characters. It is much easier to generalize, which, really isn't conducive to a legitimate conversation.

  • @Mephazel I agree on youtube's format, I skip spaces where there should be spaces - abbreviate nonsensically and severely short-change many explanations because of it. Give me some time to look at your source ( I have company) and I'll get back to you on it.

  • Everyone in Washington knows that Paul Ryan has been told he has a million dollar a year lobbying job for the health industry if he gets his health care law passed.

Here's how it works-he lies through his teeth to get it passed-the healthcare insurance industry makes billions more from vouchers while still denying it's customers health care.

Meanwhile this nigger gets a cushy one million dollar a year job as a lobbyist. Way to sell out your own people Ryan!

  • Our economic system is breaking down and will eventually collapse. The worst is yet to come. Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon His name while He is near.

  • Ryan had no valid point, his "Roadmap" is 100% descredited.

Howard Dean is smarter than Paul Ryan.

  • @MsZeitgeist85 ... says the user who names themselves after the biggest conspiracy theorist pile of crap movie ever invented. Research some of the sources of "Zeitgeist" and you'll be forced to realise it's a pile of crap pieced together into one gigantic farce. Meanwhile, your hero -- Howard Dean -- is truly clueless. Paul Ryan is a genius and just handed him his ass. Please vote Democrat. Idiots like you don't deserve true patriots like Ryan attempting to fix your broken system.

  • @allendsmeet 1. Zeitgeist is a German word for movement my username has little to do with the documentary 2. Howard Dean supports Single Payer. While Paul Ryan wants to make bad system worse by turning Medicare into a vaucher program which almosst everyone is aginst. 3. Go read Paul Ryan's interview with Ezra Klein where he got roasted and was forced to admit that his "Roadmap" will not cover more people.

  • The truth is that Howard Dean made the best case on this clip.

  • Howard Dean is a smart man. Ryan is just a typical republican who get money from rich insurance executives. He will say anything to convice people the Obamacare is bad. You can see how Ryan at 5:04 tries to say that they were talking about having only the public plan and Dean says "thats no what we're talking about."

  • @gmatamoros

LOL Howard Dean is smart in his own mind. I guess he fooled you, so make that he is smart in two minds at least. BE CAREFUL, Dean is still mad (like a little boy) over a bike path.

  • Howard Dean is a smart and honest man.

  • howard dean is so clueless it is hard to put it into words. Did he try say that if govenrment can charge 20% less than a real business, businesses are overcharging? The government could charge nothing, like it does with schools, would that mean businesses can't charge anything?

  • But does it save money no!!

  • sigh... choice? u want choice then get the fuckin govt out of our private buisinesses & get the private special interest groups out of the fuckin govt! The SELECT insurance companies are rejoicing over this bill- guess why- cuz their bottom lines are now totally secure. This is the basis for developing a monopoly- a monopoly is only possible through government support / intervention

  • Howard Dean got rocked! He's out of his league, and is in no position to be in a position of power...

  • If Paul Ryan was able to pass his roadmap which kills Medicare and Social Security he would be thrown out of office. Paul Ryan is lucky that Alan Grayson was not on here.

  • @genYprogressive

lol "social security" & medicare are 2 of the biggest ponzi schemes ever existed- aside from the bullshit income tax

Both buraucratic programs are entirely illogical & ill mandated & immoral down to its very core. Milton friedman had long exposed the scheme yet morons, statists & sheeple dont really pay much attention to it

  • @swu880 Milton Freedmans policy of tearing down trade tarrifts has sent millions of jobs overseas. Medicare was destroyed by this huckster Paul Ryan when you cons past Medicare Part D that was desighned to make it go broke and make drug companys charge whatever they want. If you support insurance companys over the Single Payer system that has worked very well for Canadia you are more stupid than the people that voted for Paul Ryan.

  • @genYprogressive

lol- medicare, & social security are ponzi schemes. but i bet u dont even recognize what a ponzi scheme is when u see one.

u only have to think about it logically NOT emotionally. ie- What purpose does 'social security' serve? the original claim was that 'social security'- u pay into it for ur retirement benefits

  • @swu880

But really since when has govt bureaucracy EVER been known to be a good manager of retirement funds or ANY funds? U must also ask urself, where does the money come from & where does it go to? The money comes from the working people & goes to NOT the working people which its supposed to- dollar per dollar. Instead it goes straight to the GOVT! The govt is NO guarantor on securities.

  • @swu880

And the govt is under NO real 'contractual' obligation to fulfil any claims. The fraud of social security is ENORMOUS & its filled with holes everywhere. You should pay for your own retirement fund- period. You dont hand over management of ur retirement fund to some one else especially the govt then complain when it fails like it does now. Your own retirement fund is your own responsibility & freedom

  • @swu880

You can NOT expect anyone else to pay for it- dont expect ur neighbor to pay for it. don't expect the worker at the 7-11 to pay for it. Nor should u have to pay for anyone else's benefits. This is basic property sense- what is Mine is MINE & u have no right to what is MINE. What is urs is supposedly urs & i supposedly have no right to what is urs. But i dont give a damn what YOU do with what is YOURS- whether u choose to burn it, trash it, invest it, or squander it by givin it to govt

  • @swu880

1 = 1. The only real obligation which the govt ever has in all of this is ensuring that ur dollar still has real value- which it has failed to do for decades now. ever since we moved off the gold standard, we have lost all monetary value. Rampant inflation & massive unpayable debt should be everyone's first concernt. If u can't even pay off ur debt right now, where the hell is the money comin from to pay off all these programs? hell more importantly- where is the value behind the dollar?

  • Ryan will cut taxes for the wealthy no questions asked- but he'll do everything he can to stop the middle class from getting affordable health care or unemployment benefits!

  • Paul Ryan is the biggest bullshit artist in office.

  • Let's see-Ryan and the rest of his clan fought tooth and nail to deny Americans affordable health care. Then they fought to deny unemployed Americans compensation. But when the wealthiest (who pay the least in taxes) want a tax cut Ryan says "Hey, no problem" The right wing exists to enrich the wealthy at the expense of the middle class. No thanks Ryan, the American middle class has enough of a burden already, America deserves better!

  • @Vetwolf13 How frickin' stupid can you be? This nation is going bankrupt because of entitlements! It's not for the rich! Stop enabling laziness!!! Why should I pay for your health care? Because you're too frickin lazy to get a job? Your retarded argument that tax cuts help the rich is so weak. The wealthiest 2% of our country pay 60% of the taxes. Why punish hard work and success? If you'd work and have you're own money, you'd see things different.

  • @creativebuzz Pull your head out of Glenn Becks ass! America is the laughing stock of the world right now because our government won't provide for it's own people. America is the only major industrialized nation in the world that does not have a health care sytem that everyone can afford. And we could afford all the entitlements we'll need if our leaders would make it a priority! We'd rather "nation build" than take care of our own! The right wing needs to start working for the American people!

  • @Vetwolf13 "AMERICA WON'T PROVIDE FOR IT'S OWN PEOPLE". You can NOT be serious!? We are a mamby pamby entitlement state. We now give two years for unemployment benefits. That's a JOKE! Like I said, all we are doing is enabling laziness. I work hard to take care of myself, my family and if necessary other members of my family. I have never taken one red cent from our Gov., BECAUSE I WORK! The left wing needs to get their heads out of the sand and see we are BROKE because of entitlements! MORON!

  • @creativebuzz You better save every cent you can because if Ryan and his clan have thier way they will steal your social security! Tool!

  • @Vetwolf13 Too Late NObama is already stealing everything and giving to the po and lazy. Obama is stealing from future generations. Ryan is the only one with a good plan to get us out of this Obama fuck up and if it means me working for an extra five years, I have no problem with that. The only one responsible for my retirement is ME! I'm not leaving it Obama, Pelosi, Ried, Frank and the rest of the Liberal thieves to provide for my retirement. I hold myself accountable for that. So should you!

  • Ryan, US President.

  • All republicans are nothing but tools for the wealthy elite! Not one of those niggers voted for health reform or to extend unemployment benefits! Niggers!

  • Paul Ryan, one of the smartest men in congress, is having a battle of witts with an unarmed man. The CBO has fixed the numbers, now ObamaCare will cost $115 billion more thann originally thought. That's still thought to be too low of an estimate. Noone seemed to catch this, but Dean said the only way to control cost is to have "everybody" in the system. Thats a single payer system to me. That's what the Dems are saying this is not... hmmm I think someone slipped up.

  • @CoryEttinger Pau Ryan is a Joke. Kucinich or Grayson would destroy him. He made no points here aginst the Public Option.

  • @MsZeitgeist85 check out his social security reform as well as medicare/ medicaid. He's willing to hit on the attack the tough issues and fix the major problems. I suggest you do your research.

  • @CoryEttinger He wants to privatize both of those which will kill people and not make them solvent. This Roadmap has been debunked by every credable economist out there. I suggest you do your reaserch.

  • @MsZeitgeist85 , true, they said his tax reforms would raise "Slightly Less Revenue". Look at where we are headed. Atleast Ryan is opening up a conversation about these tough subjects, with potential answers. The democrats are doubling down on ruinous entitlement programs. The current administration is doing everything it can to stop gorwth, hinder job creation and push businesses out of the USA. One clear example, the "Moritorium on Gulf Oil". Why give a Brazil Co. billions for deep drilling?

  • Comment removed

  • Ryan is a tool! The right wing exists for the sole purpose of enriching the wealthy elite at the expense of the middle class! What has the right wing done for you lately?

  • @TheKmbt --- Ask not what your country can do for you...

    ya greedy 'money-for-nothing' weakling

    why are you so dependent?

    be INdependent!!!

  • Ryan is a corporate tool! He wants to give the rich a tax break at the expense of the middle class!

  • @TheKmbt God - My GOD - do you idiots ever have anything ELSE to say? I mean, really - EVERY TIME you're going to use that montra? EVERY TIME?

Look - it's SIMPLE... I'll type slowwwwlllllyyyyy.... The G-O-V-E-R-N-M-E-N-T is determined to E-L-I-M-I-N-A-T-E private insurance companies so that T-H-E-Y can be the S-O-L-E provider - "single payer". If you can't see it, it's only because you don't want to. You want the "nanny state". Well - it's almost here. Congratulations. You're almost a SERF.

  • @BBCater For-Profit Insurance Companys kill people. That is why the American Healthcare System is 37th in the world.

  • @TheKmbt - "He wants to give the rich a tax break at the expense of the middle class"

Let me ask you - How is it not the same thing as a "Tax Break" for the "rich" when a business can now DROP their employees health insurance plans from their expenses, and shift them over to a Big Govt insurance plan?

It saves the biz money by shifting the cost of insurance over to Big Govt, so the biz bottom line (profits) will necessarily increase

So how is that not the same as a "tax break 4 the rich?"

  • The Lewen Group is funded by United Health, they are not a credable source of informantion. Paul Ryan is lucky that it was not Dennis Kucinich or Alan Grayson that he was debating. Paul Ryan would have gotten owned from one end to the other.

  • Comment removed

  • Paul Ryan for Pres is correct I would voe for him or sure..

  • Howard Dean Communist. What a shock. O stop.

  • Ryan is the insurance lobby's nigger!

  • @TheKmbt and you are the Democratic Party's. Oh.. that's right.. your leader is th biggest one of thme all. Biggot.

  • Ryan is the insurance lobby's nigger!

  • Paul Ryan should run for president . . He's so smart ! and young !!

  • Well, I think that if we don't do anything about it, the government will end up paying more people for health insurance like they already do because right now in america, the health insurance policy is this. 1. Free healthcare by the government, or super-high cost low benefit private company. So tell me about the Public option.

  • Paul Ryan's a decent guy with some pretty good ideas. 'nuff with the name calling already!

  • Ryan wants to take your social security and give it to the rich! He's a nigger alright!

  • Dean wants to take you social security and give it to a crackhead through an entitlement. At least the rich guy might invest it leading to a job being created. What the fuck is a crackhead going to do for your ignorant ass.

  • Dream on nigger!

  • I LOVE when the dem's dont have an argument...they resort to name calling...see vetwolf and unclelight. You guys amuse me...and it really shows how intelligent you people are.

  • Ryan is the insurance lobby's nigger!

  • @Vetwolf13 dude you say the same thing on several videos. knock off the talking points and come up with something original..pathetic

  • wow really shows ur compassion for ppl now doesnt it

  • great debate on healthcare! both sides were coherent, neither resorted to hyperbole and nobody was called a socialist. now if only you folks commenting could have taken a cue from them!

i am for health reform and i support our president. but at the same time, paul ryan is about the most likeable republicans i have seen in awhile. definitely a bright future in front of him!

  • @jaywierenga He seems like someone that realy wants the US to succeed.

  • More like uncledumbass. Share some more of those pearls of wisdom and insight...sigh

  • So just because a republican is against obama care he is working for the insurance companies? As if democrats don't have lobbyists of their own. You are as crazy as a pet coon. Even if the health care bill is passed it WILL NOT make health insurance more affordable for anyone.

  • @TheDw450 Great points. As far as insurance companies are concerned, they're going to love the Obama's health care- it'll force everyone to buy insurance. Hot dog, here comes the money train!

  • Paul Ryan is fuckin great. He's going places.

  • @unclelight i like your unabashed and extravagant use of the word "nigger". it's about time the dems show their true colors when posting on youtube.

  • @unclelight- that was the most uninteligent rant ever. Is anyone against Obamacare therefore in favor of insurance companies? And using nigger to describe a plan- makes perfect sense coming from a liberal like yourself.

  • Dean says private sector hasn't controlled costs! He's a socialist NUT! It is not the role of private sector to control cost, it is rather to provide the options and services consumers want even if they are expensive, and to survive as a business even in a hostile billion-dollar litigation society. Cost increases are fueled by new expensive treatments, quality improvements, and fear of greedy sob lawyers.

Anyone who doesn't understand that has NO business sense at all.

  • @Cre8tvMG, that is it in a nutshell! Excellent summation.

  • Howard Dean is the Democrats go to guy on health care debates and Paul Ryan mopped the floor with him...!

  • STFU

  • Anytime you talk practical business sense with dems, their heads can't process. At least these two didn't divert intelligent debate with calling Ryan a racist or child harter, as dems typically default to when they can't stand up to reason.

  • Congressman Ryan = common sense.

  • you trolled that on two different videos haha.. what an idiot.

  • @unclelight

    WOW......just wow.

  • Comment removed

  • Ryan Pence 2012

  • whos pence

  • I'm glad this was a civil discussion. I thought they all did a pretty good job of expressing their viewpoints.

  • Phuk you, Howard Dean

  • Wow, Howard Dean is clueless.

    Rock on Paul Ryan!

  • @boxant ... It irks me that so many (outspoken) people have no idea what they are talking about, certainly still ignorant they were shafted with lies about Howard Dean from the gitgo "Dean Rant Astroturf."

    ---

Dean is correct that we continue with a Corp-Gov now under Obama also serving Mega-Corp America. The healthcare bills are a Corp give-away, and a future serious bondage of America... excluding the very wealthy and Congress with their very own established programs of entitlement.

  • What I find so incredible is NO ONE is talking about Tort reform, or the cost of the countless frivolous lawsuits that

contribute to our rising health care costs, (it is hardly all the insurance companies fault! ) It is irresponsible that our govt. isn't addressing all of the issues involved.

Clearly a political issue. Public option would be disastrous!

  • Paul ryan... smart. outspoken. polite. respected - even by his oponents. That's real-deal HOPE.

  • goodness Ryan just owned them! I see a bright future in his political career!

  • paul ryan just proved the benefit of a public plan, it would healthcare so much cheaper private healthcare would die out

  • but why would you want private healthcare to go away? I dont understand the reason behind that motivation. We're a capitalist nation - why do we push for socialist ideologies? No offense intended - I'm really very curious and want to understand that rationale.

  • I was under the impression that the Private sector always does things better than "government bureaucrats". Oh, no, wait... except for the insurance industry. Wake the fuck up.

  • Thank the lord for Paul Ryan! We DO NOT need a "Public" plan....

  • carhac66. Your progressive attitude is scary. Your are throwing our foundings father's sacrifice to ensure individual rights from this type of tyranny. Obama has already been taped saying he will use a government plan to bankrupt health insurance. Beside medicaid is a government insurance. why are you not using it? I am tired of being taxed and over taxed because the majority rules. we are not a democracy. Please read and understand our government before you make aspersions on it.

  • And Nixon's tapes prove the insurance industry was/is a racket (dare I say criminal). yet, we should keep it? Obama's statement appears to be a rumor, much like his wife's "whitey" tape. Yes, he does not like the insurance industry practices, neither should any of us. I understand our gov pretty well and what aspersions have I made? the federal government has enumerated (constitution) & Implied (congress laws) powers. progressives won the 1819 supreme court case-muccolloch v maryland.

  • carhac66 General welfare in on no reference to health care. You are interjecting an agenda into the constitution. Health care never was even considered when the constitution. The general welfare refers to business and the government passing laws the protect consumers from fraud and legislation that promote free enterprise. Your logic is a progressive logic that is meant to manipulate. not protect our rights which are individual in nature. Not 51 to 49 majority rules that is not a republic.

  • yes, I agree at the time health care was not considered at the constitutions creation. yet, the constitution is vague on purpose because the writers wanted it to be viable for the future. My logic is not a manipulation, but the same used for federal involvement with education, medicare, infrastructure, postal service and industry. protecting rights? this will in no way stop anyone from buying private insurance. it will not bar insurance companies from staying in business either.

  • you really need to reread the bill of rights. The government has enumerated power. That mean limited power. The executive branch is only to protect our country's security. Not set up massive government take overs. Also you want to confiscate money from some to supply to others. Our framers was very familiar with this type of tyranny. They never last. We are a republic where no individual is bound to others in a collective. Our property, rights, can not be taken by anyone in the majority.

  • see my answer below. framers did not agree on what the limit of federal power would be. aren't all taxes confiscating $ from some to pay for others? yes. what tyranny? we are a republic that relies on our elected officials to make laws for us. to take your stand literally, slavery w/b still be legal, women w/b slaves in most states, no banking system or money, and murder would only count if the life taken was of a land owner (white male) in most states.???????

  • This guy Paul Ryan is very gifted at placating the enemy as he assaults them. One other great President had the gift for this. His name was Ronald Reagan. Paul Ryan for President!!!!

  • why does the government have to have to regulate an exchange. we have have an exchange it is called the free market. these progressives are not only assaulting free market, they are stupid!!!

  • We already have a public plan it is called medicaid and it is 36 trillion in the hole. So why don't fix that and make that more efficient for low income. implementing another government plan is overkill. We have SCHIP, Medicaid which is insurance for low income. So why are they doing this? It is stupid. Fix the plans we already have not spend trillions more to create yet another program.

  • Considering how in debt our country is already from government programs, we will not have money to treat most diseases when everybody gets forced into this public plan. I have a vested interest in this because I am 29 and have multiple sclerosis. I will never see a cure if we socialize healthcare. I want companies competing with each other trying to find a cure.

  • @JKforUA,

Health insurance companies DO NOT pay for experimental procedures, they are not responsible for research and development. Most of the money comes from tax dollars, some comes from pharama, and a small percentage comes from non-for-profit hospitals that get some of the money from donations, government grants and patients.

  • I did not say that insurance companies pay for the R&D of drugs and procedures. But pharmaceutical companies pay for the research, which cost millions for each drug (which 1 out of 5 fail). The pharmaceuticals charge high prices while they still have the patent to make up for all of the millions they spent on ones that failed. Govt run healthcare would either price fix the drugs or just not offer the new drugs.

  • And Medicare will not pay for lots of new medications. I have a great uncle who also has multiple sclerosis (I have it), and he still has not been able to get Medicare to pay for a new highly effective drug that's been out a few years that I am on. When the entire country is on a form of Medicare, that is what everybody can expect. To think otherwise is to completely disregard all of the examples where it's already been tried.

  • Yeah, I agree. The governemnt hides behind the FDA to save themselves the expense. I hope your uncle gets the tretment he needs... soon.

  • the Lewin group study has plenty of positive things to say about the govt run program..and the savings it will provide..the GOP has cherry picked Lewin group #'s to make their points... democrats could use the same report to make their points....but democrats refuse to read the lewin report....and democrats just bash lewin b/c conservatives read/cite the lewin report.

  • @rebjiii,

You are right, the Lewin group reports do show that the addition of a public plan shows increased gains in efficiencies (mostly in the administrative costs).

However, the analysis is a little too static, not dynamic enough. The Lewin group should take into account the fact that private insurance companies will adapt to compete (even by dropping premium price) with the public plan. This adaptation will bring the balance back to the private insurance companies.

    .

  • do you have a website for the lewin group reports?

    thanks

  • carhac66, Ryan did not admit the private plans are horrible. Just that they could not compete with government plans that are subsidized with taxpayer money. They don't offer better quality (ask any Medicare/Medicaid insured person), they just won't pay but a low fixed amount that the doctor has to accept. Ask ANYbody in Canada or Britain about the quality healthcare they get in their countries that have socialized healthcare. If they can afford it, they come HERE.

  • I stand corrected, I should not have used the word "horrible". I know 2 families in canada have asked. they like their health care. and they actually chose to stay there because of it. given every country has good and bad doctors. I've also noticed that lately many US citizens go on medical vacations now. they use vacation time from work to have medical & dental procedures done in various countries. I considered this for my operation, but decided to stay with the doctor I know.

  • paul ryan admits that private plans are horrible and cannot compete. the public plan will not have the 4+ million dollar salaries that the private insurance plans have.

  • @carhac66,

The overhead for of medicare is about 2% while for private insurance it is 15%+, and this is without counting the resources that the hospital has to get file claims with the health insurance companies.

While the public plan option will be far more slim than the private insurance, I actually fear for the public's future because the insurance companies are good at picking the healthy and dropping them if they become ill, effectively shifting the risk to the public plan.

    .

  • thanks for the info. I don't understand why so many are against the public option.

  • I am vehemently against the public option because of the examples of socialized healthcare (which is what the public option is) we have seen. People in Canada have to come to the States to get cancer treatment and surgeries because the waiting lists are so long and backed up. Britain doesn't treat patients with a certain type of breast cancer because the medication is too expensive, essentially choosing who lives and who dies. The examples are many and long, and they aren't hard to find.

  • The plan Ryan proposed would keep the government out of having to choose which diseases and people to treat by giving a TON more competition in the free market. As it stands now, we cannot get insurance from other states, meaning insurance companies don't have to really compete due to the low number of them in a state. Competition drives down prices while providing choice and quality.

  • Any football coach will tell you that lack of competition for spots on their team is bad. The better the depth means that every player is constantly pushing for playing time, meaning the players always work and give their best, resulting in a better team. A government plan would wipe out competition, and that will screw the quality that we get.

  • I am not against any competition, but a public plan is competition. true some people in canada & britain don't like their health care, but the same can be said of the US. Insurance companies regularly change or stop coverage of diseases. like you state below, a good private system depends on competition and to have this every type of player has to be given a shot. so, public option probably will help the private companies get their act together.

  • But it's stacked-deck competition. They will have public subsidies and will underpay any other insurance provider which will run them out of business. As it is now, the only competition is the few insurance companies in your state. If it is opened that you could get insurance from ANY state, that increases competition many, many times more. Calling a "public plan" as just fair competition is deceiving, because it won't be fair competition.

  • we don't know how the public option will be formulated yet. so, to call it "stacked-deck" is premature. with any bill there will be subsidies or grants to be competed for by private & public. I agree that the states s/b open to insurers from other states or even countries. I have a question: what about the states health laws? does the state loose all control?

  • How can a government be competition. Look u p the word fascism. Mixing public and private competing is not only not the role of government under the constitution it is no level because they don't have to make a profit. It is terrible!!! Canada started witht his idea and most private insurer went under. Now the healthcare stinks. Also to throw 80% of Americans who are happy with health care is infringing on our rights!!!

  • government is already in competition with private industry in several areas (ex; postal service & defense). seems to work fine. constitutionally the government must provide for defense and welfare (inc. health) of the population. most of these 80% of americans have never had a true choice. employers generally decides who the insurance co will be or a company plan. this is what we are use to, therefore people will say they like it. FYI: this same number would love to be on medicare.

  • Well believe it or not I agree with you. But your argument is to take what little choice we have totally. Obama was audio taped stating to the black caucus he wanted to put a government health care in place to bankrupt the private insurance that would push us in a single payer system. That leave no choice. Nixon took away our rights and Obama will finish it.

  • Nixon'
