Tyson was 39. That's ancient for a boxer. Boxers are best in their prime, and should start thinking about hanging up the gloves in their late 20s. Contrary to what movies show, human beings were not designed for this kind of punishment, and once your youth is gone, your body just won't keep up.
Boxing also takes a bad toll on your body after you quit. Ever see an elderly boxer? It ain't' pretty. Arthritis, dementia, brain damage, destroyed joints, cauliflower ears and tattered ligaments.

Overrated....Tyson always was. Was good from 19yrs old to 24 when Buster kicked his ass. He lost to every good fighter after that (Holyfield twice and Lennox Lewis). Excuses like his trainer, friends, don king, jail are just that....excuses. Guys like Ali came back from stuff and weren't shot at age 25. His early ko's were against meatballs but get your jollies from it.

@aitraining Tyson in his prime might be the best. He came in stronger. His first 37 fights are the most destructive thing , even the greats had witnessed. Holyfield would not have dared fight him then. I choose choice D. He grew up as all "ADULTS" do with things that have gotten old to them. Look at what you do to feed your family, at what pay? When he fought Spinks for the first time, I saw Mike avoid eye contact, a rule he vowed not to break. Cus D'Amato dying changed everything.

I actually always figured Tyson would go out like this. For the last 10 years of his career he didn't seem to want it anymore. He had heart still, those beatings he took at the hands of Holyfield and Lewis were brutal and he kept getting up, but he was never doing for himself. He just wanted to please people.
