  • I SHOW YOU MY HANDS YOU DON'T SEE THE SCARS, MAYBE I'LL LEAVE ME HERE TO BUUUUURN!!!! Best singing performance EVER!!!!

  • Drummers, can you feel the sex starting at 09:30 ?

  • The whole song is unreal.

  • questo pezzo è troppo...

in assoluto uno dei miei preferiti ogni volta che lo sento rimango senza parole!!

  • I believe that the albums Dream Theater recorded with Kevin Moore the most powerfull and emotional albums they have done... Pure musical awesomeness with a generic sense of sweetness in absolute harmony!

  • 7:36 - 8.15 1 of the most intense things i have ever heard! respect indeed.

  • Labrie's vocals on this record are just unbelievable.

  • 8:15 to 8:53: respect!

  • This song might be in their top 3. In additon, 'Awake' offers their real and unique sound, by showing how far and deep can their music go.

  • 9:30-11:00 is total ear candy

  • epic outro

  • Everybody shut your asses for a second. Rudess is a fantastic player and an incredibly creative composer - it's plainly evident in all of Scenes and classics like Octavarium and Count of Tuscany, not to mention LTE and the stuff he constantly posts in his YouTube channel. Everything the man touches turns to music. Stop being nostalgic douches and see the plain truth: Jordan Rudess rules.

  • @antonio610 He's a technical master... but I disagree that he's a great composer... The majority of his youtube videos are him just playing very fast, which isn't very musical. He can come out with some great stuff... but I don't think you see it in DT. And he doesn't contribute lyrics. For a lot of DT fans Kevin Moore is just irreplaceable. He had a lot of passion, creativity and brought a lot of atmosphere to the band.

  • @DrPoca, have you heard his own work outside of Dream Theater? Personally I love his work on "Rhythms of time". He did also compose "Overture" for six degrees of inner turbulence which then contributes to the theme in some other parts of that song (or songs). I personally find him a great composer, but it's all highly subjective.

  • @DrPoca Actually Rudess has a lot of decently composed things, well not necessarily they're all improvisations. Watch any of his exploration videos they're amazing, show a personality in his musicianship that's probably fit for piano by itself. He emphasizes his technicality in DT much more.

  • simple. Best Song from 90's Dream Theater. This is what the pure progressive metal has to sound...

  • I thought this song was about rape, what's with all the religious crap?

  • @XxboVodxX it's not about rape, it's about a person who is scarred by anything, and thinks about how to take it, always saying that he can be a better person, "give up on misery, turn your back on dissent, leave their distrust behind, wash your hands of regret", while in the end, he becomes a person who will take his scares, and pass them on. "Learning from misery, staring back at dissent, leaving distrust behind. I'm inspired and content". At least that's my interpretation.

  • the best "album" of Dream Theater

  • @satsuinohado words and images

  • @sexi1708 Images and Words. I don't know what album you're listening to.

  • I certianly think Rudess is better, but I don't think Iphones and Ipads belong in songs, and prefer DT w/moore than the darker heavier DT/rudess post SDOIT. and I know their change of sound is not because of Jordan, and that I their newest cd is their best since SFAM,

  • @MrColaid Which granted isn't saying much.

I just wish DT would go back to focusing more on writing and emotion than wankery.

  • The bass and drums at the start seem like they should be used in a 70's cop show

  • 9:30--onward--total musical brilliance

  • probably dt's best song

  • Comment removed

  • @BlindF3ith I agree with you there, Son. ;)

  • This song is about circumcision.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY Actually, it's a religious song, the scars refer to Jesus.

  • @gnryeah

    Jesus was circumcised.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY I'll circumcise you!!!!!! xD

  • @gnryeah none of the lyrics really seem very religiously significant

  • @purestr99109 Actually, alot of them do. It's all about misbeliefs and trying to live contently without worrying too much about a constricted life style, but still having your faith.

  • James's singing is fucking great on this track. So much effort.

  • @Ismartin96 This song is sort of a sequel to the A Mind Beside Itself trilogy. It's about misbelief in god, overcoming your inner demons and learning to live (lol) a peaceful life.

  • my apollogies for writing Max instead of Mike ;) i must have been distracted by something while writing that

  • Max portnoy? xD

  • when i listen to dream theater, mostly i hear max portnoy's drumming, although they are altogether fantastic!!!!

  • @Rijecanin1980 Hahaha, you said Max :D

  • @Rijecanin1980 Max Portnoy is Mike Portnoy's son. You were close though. "A" for effort.

  • @passion4drums :) i was close

  • I don't get this song at all... :/

  • Ahhh I like this old Petrucci much better since his shredding is centered around the solo, not the solo centered around his shredding. Less notes, more heart.

  • @SPARTAbassist So true. But I'm fine with all the Petruccis as I'm sure you are too! But this has got to be the best.

  • ah !!! song is amazing.. this band is amazing !!

  • this song is a perfectly written masterpiece.

  • 3:11 ELAAAASTIC RUBBBEEERBAAAAANDS!

  • @InTheNameOfGawwwd That's a common mistake. It's actually Rubberdaves.

  • @InTheNameOfGawwwd

It's actually my favorite part of this song.

  • Every song on Awake makes me drool with happiness. c:

  • @MegaDoubleA: Even Innocence Faded? (Make no mistake, I do think Awake is a masterpiece as a whole, but Innocence Faded is pretty weak.)

  • @progrockkeyboardist No way Innocence Faded is an awesome song! Very catchy, and serves as a nice melodic breather.

  • NAJLEPSZY KAWAŁEK DT

  • I have all of DT albums and some of them with signatures of the guys. But Symphony X crush them without Mike Portnoy!!! For me it's just another band. Mike WE are missing You !!! With the rest of DT!!! John and the rest!!!! Take a brake becouse the rest of Your albums are so simple and almost the same.

  • @murphyto69 the only possible thing they might be missing at all of Portnoy is his longevity in the band. Other than that, fuck that whiny, self-centered, overmodulated, alcoholic drama queen. He's been holding this band back with his MEMEME blast-beat goth metal for at least two albums now. Now they have an actual technician behind the kit in Mangini which will let the rest of the band shine again.

When was the last time JM wrote lyrics for a song? 8 albums ago.

  • @USAon3 get over it

  • @USAon3: What Dream Theater needs is an outside producer that is able to keep the musical waking to a minimum (not all solos constitute musical wanking, but does the instrumental section of Fatal Tragedy really mean anything besides "admire the size of our musical dicks"?) and force the band to write decent lyrics (or at least funny ones, e.g., The Dark Eternal Night, which at least provides something to laugh at). Otherwise, the great days of Images & Words and Awake will not come back.

  • @progrockkeyboardist I think we pretty much saw the result of an outside producer in FII. DT felt choked by commerciality and "radio-friendly" songs. I don't think they'll ever let themselves be that constrained again.

SFAM was a masterpiece showcase, and is basically the essence of DT - mixing song structure with virtuosity.

  • @progrockkeyboardist You're so right in your last sentence !

  • I lay down for this........ I imagine a light fly felling that turns into the furious and cry!!! All what happens in my life. Fuck I didn't make it

Solo heals my soul and riff makes meup again

  • I lay down for this........ I imagine a light fly felling that turns into the furious and cry!!! All what happens in my life. Fuck I didn't make it

  • People cannot comprehend the force that is Awake.

Listening to the average music that most of my friends listen to, I can't help but chuckle. I don't try to make them feel like shit that they listen to such simple stuff, but its only by overhearing the garbage they listen to it makes me realize the Awake phenomena. This album cannot be "listened" to in 1 try, sure you can hear it. Awake requires an acquired taste, I have listened to this album over 100 times. Powerful stuff.

  • 3 people who thumb downed this song apparently are fucking deaf and have no soul.

  • Labrie`s best vocal performance

  • is this song about god ?

  • @lsmartin96 why would they make a song about themselves?

  • @passion4drums then what is this song about ?

  • @lsmartin96 Don't think you get the joke D: they are GODS!!!! But no this song is about the effects and outcome of Portnoy's alcohol related problems

  • @passion4drums i think this song is really about jesus

  • @lsmartin96 they aren't religious

  • @Nearco323 Actually, both Petrucci and Myung are Christian

  • @Nearco323 i'm saying that this song is about circumcision.

  • Why Bieber was born in 1994? (when this album was made) I deserve more than him...

  • I really miss the old Dream Theater!!!!!!!!!!

  • 9:32 - 11:00 best keyboard part

  • @buffodrummer I've always felt DT best work was during the "Moore Era". I think his creativity is superior to Rudess'

  • @MrColaid i would have to respectfully disagree

  • @ShiftyStealthy Fair enough

  • @MrColaid dont get me wrong though, both band members are really really good! i just think that rudess is better and more creative than moore, thats all.

  • right on man

  • @MrColaid Definitely. Rudess has the technical chops but Moore was a creative force to be reckoned with. He was a much more subtle/tasteful player as well. Not to mention he wrote lyrics too

  • My favorite DT song and the best album!

  • @gcastello86 and the best vocal melodies, the best riffs, the best lyrics, the best keyboard-themes. yeah, back in the day, they had thoughts and feelings to convey. and they had Moore... they are still amazing musicians. but there are better stuffs to listen to... at least for me. [pussy mode off]

  • one of the best dream theater's albums! just amazing

  • There's obviously a new set of "stooges"... because there's three dislikes on this vid. lol... Spread out, chuckleheads!! Why I outta!! Oh... Oh, LOOK!! :) I LIKE this song, myself. I know people have differences of opinion, but why do they have to put "dislikes" on obviously great songs. If you dislike it, then go listen to something else. Don't come and rain on the ones that DO like it's parade, jus' sayin'.

  • 02:36 sounds like fortune in lies

  • One of the best outros that they've done. Long live Moore.

  • Awake and Images and Words are Dream Theater's best albums. Period.

  • @geirdraugsvoll Plus Train of Thought, Scenes from a Memory, Octavarium, Falling Into Infinity, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Systematic Chaos, A Change of Seasons, Black Clouds & Silver Linings and A Dramatic Turn of Events.

  • @geirdraugsvoll: Indeed. Scenes from a Memory had great potential, but unfortunately suffers from awful lyrics and vocal lines, gay ballads (nothing against ballads per se, but they do not have to be gay), song structures that do not make sense (e.g., the second half of One Last Time) and, of course, needlessly long solos that do not fit the songs that contain them at all (e.g., Fatal Tragedy). From that point onwards, the quality of their songwriting has been in a downward spiral.

  • @geirdraugsvoll cannot deny

  • @geirdraugsvoll Well, that's your opinion. I'd still put Scenes From a Memory in first place.

  • @TheSwagganator Fuckin' A, man !

  • @geirdraugsvoll Totally. I'd include When Dream and Day Unite too. After that they have still made some great songs, but the albums have all been inconsistent in some way, despite usually having some notable highlights.

  • @geirdraugsvoll

I disagree. I think A Dramatic Turn of Events is their best album yet. Petrucci's better side of his phrasing is back, but he is doing something a bit new with it, the album itself is much more versatile in a sense and also much more experimental in a sense as well, the parts are much tastier imo, the vocal melodies are much more... melodic, the builds make much more sense, and it sounds much more free. The progression is just more interesting and makes more sense imo.

  • @geirdraugsvoll how can a band like dream theater have a best album? they have so many great albums that saying one is better than another wouldnt seem possible.

  • @pyromaniarules A real DT fan has its likes and dislikes about the band, personally i would pick Awake or Images And Words above Falling into Infinity and Octavarium any day.

  • @geirdraugsvoll amen to that!!!!

  • @geirdraugsvoll. I agree with you 100%. They are the best albums they have made full stop.

  • First time listening to scarred and.......let's just say

    mind=blown

  • 8:15 !!!!!!!!

  • minute 7:00 to 9:00 change my life...thank dream for flaying with us

  • This CD has its own reserved slot in my CD changer in my truck. Permanent !!

  • Just found out how awesome this song is today, after about 20+ listens...

  • @honeydewleaf

I totally understand you!!I thought I was the only one hehe :)!!!I love this song now!!

  • blood heal me

fear change me belief will always save my

    blood swearing

    fear staring conviction made aware

  • One of the best albums ever. Feel free to disagree....you'd just be wrong, that's all.

  • My Favorite Part Begins At 0:00, until 11:00!!!

  • fatalistic remedies :3333 Dream Theater the best till thy endddddddd

  • I'm ashamed to say I just now discovered how much I like this song. O-o

I... I can't stop listening to it now.

  • 03:55 crazy

  • The insanity starting at 7:12 - are Moore and Petrucci actually harmonizing note by note?! That's some Liquid Tension stuff.... before Liquid Tension! :^)

  • Pure Floyd-vibe 0:27- 1:07, only better! ;^)

  • best outro of any song of all time. its so good it makes me cry everytime. damn!

  • @tub3scr3am3r Absolutely a great outro! Even if they'd chosen not to include Space-dye Vest, this would have made for a great ending of the album. But who doesn't love Space-dye Vest? ;^)

  • One of their best songs

  • I didn't see any cheesy comment about the people who disliked this video, so here goes:

    "3 people have been scarred"

  • dude i'm sure if they wanted mike back and he wanted to come back nothing short of god himself could stop it.

  • I'm trying to like Dream Theater but I just can't for some reason.

They just sound too "chill" and calm for me. It dosen't mean they're not good, though.

  • @UristMcgee

dude listen closer you are missing it somehow

  • @finleywarren This song is not one of Dream Theater's "chill" songs, which is why I like it.

I just dislike most of their songs. Anyway, I'm begining to like them more. I guess I'm getting used to their chill songs.

  • @UristMcgee too chill and calm?? my goodness...have you heard train of thought, systematic chaos or black clouds at all?

tell me they are chill and calm after listening to in the name of God, in the presence of enemies, a nightmare to remember etc etc

  • @UristMcgee listen to the glass prison, honor thy father, the mirror, this dying soul...

i think you will like these more than this song, anyways tell me what you think

    cheers

  • @UristMcgee This song right here isn't all that chill or calm. On this album, try "6:00," "The Mirror," and "Lie." Also, check out Train of Thought and Scenes from a Memory. There's some real intense stuff in there.

  • @UristMcgee Yeah dude, had the same feeling for them at first. It's a style that takes getting used to. But I'm totally glad I stuck with them.

  • @UristMcgee

They have a very unique style. For me it took very many listens to like certain songs (ie. Octavarium), but once I got used to them, they've become one of my favorite songs of all time.

Oh, and DT does have heavier songs too, like Honor Thy Father, The Test That Stumped Them All, As I Am, and Lie among others. You should check those out if you're into more Metallica influensed songs.

  • best outro ever!

  • best outro ever!

  • sorry for the double comment

  • Very dichotomous song. You can hear Moore pulling it one way and Petrucci/Portnoy going a very different direction. Good track, but it fights with itself. Probably should have been split into two, or made longer and more expansive.

  • @blackmax2323 Having said that, I really like this song. :)

  • @blackmax2323 and how did myung contribute? I mean, except for the fucking awesome tapping bass intro?

  • @OfficialTSC This song, like all DT's work, was written by all five members, so I imagine Myung contributed to the arrangement, etc. He also contributes what he also contributes, a fluid, complex, rock-solid bass line. Most of the songs' lyrics were either by Petrucci, Moore, or Portnoy, though Myung wrote lyrics for one song. Don't bust Myung, he is an integral part of the band's sound.

  • @blackmax2323 I think you misunderstood, (I'm not superhuman) I'm a big myung fan, just the way you said the other stuff, it seemed like you left him out. and about the "all five members" thing, I must disagree, they always say how when they finish writing the stuff instrumentally, that's when james comes in, and either contributes to the melody line, or doesn't, so I'd say "all four instrumentalists".

  • @OfficialTSC with that said, I know I'm gonna be attacked by JLB fans. Before I start protecting myself, I just want to say (as a vocalist myself) that there is a difference between a singer with a good voice, and a singer that can sing good. Before the accident, he had a wonderful, fresh, young, and a bit "cold" voice. I dearly miss it. however, he is a great singer in the studio. live, he has a much harder time, and I think he could have been better.

  • @OfficialTSC I agree.

  • @OfficialTSC Didn't mean to misinterpret. From what I understand, LaBrie has some influence on the music. And before the vocal damage, he was able to sing more as a "vocal instrumentalist" in something of the same way that Peter Gabriel or Jon Anderson have done. After the vocal damage, not so much, to the point where I think the band had to take his vocal limitations into account in their arrangements.

  • 3 people dont have ears

  • I'm inspired and content...

  • @gghns I never got that line, does it mean, that in the end, after the dude decides to "turn the other cheek" , ("give up on misery, turn your back on descent, leave their distrust behind") and all that, he's actually inspired by all the shit he's gone trough, and he will give others shit?

  • Space dye vest is like the greatest song ever

  • your venoms not family here, brilliant lyrics

  • One of their best songs...

  • Due to vocal damage, LaBrie confer this song and the whole album a very unique quality among other DT albums. Although it is detrimental to keep singing before fully recovered, LaBrie did really take advantage on the temporary yet special quality that his voice possessed, to make "Awake" a memorable part in his career (and my life too).

  • @youbadcrazyman Labrie damage his voice after Awake. It was during the tour. If you listen to shows and bootlegs from '94, you can actually tell where his voice started going out.

  • @zorland876 oh, sorry for my mistake. i think i was right for a long time. then Labrie must gone crazy on this album. his voice is exceptionally different here.

  • @zorland876 youbadcrazyman fail in 3, 2, 1... :D

  • @zorland876

It was actually BEFORE the tour started when James and his wife were in Cuba. He ruptured his vocal chords after suffering from food poisoning.

  • @spork0874 They had already been touring by that time. They took a break for Christmas, and then starting touring again after the New Year.

  • Comment removed

  • @youbadcrazyman Really? He never sounded better! For what it's worth, I remember reading that he worked with an "opera coach" for this album.

  • @youbadcrazyman learn your facts before you spit out bullshit.

  • this is not music - IT IS MAGIC

    DREAM THEATRE IS MAGIC

  • what an intro... what an outro... what a song...

and think about those poor unlucky guys who bought the cassette version, that did not include this masterpiece in the tracklist! O.o

  • Well, if this song is awesome (and it is), the final part (from the minute 9.30) is... I don' t really have words to describe it...

  • Comment removed

  • Awake!

  • Opening guitar solo sounds vaguely like Steve Vai

  • the best

  • LaBrie SUX!

  • @MulticulturalHell Like your mum sux -.- Dude, you're allowed to say that LaBrie is not a good singer, BUT PLEASE SAY WHY, DUMBASS!!!

    Or just stop trolololololing around...

  • @MulticulturalHell You're an idiot. Enough said.
