You don't need the "present" to impress the female cat. Instead, you can use it to "bribe" the male cats on lower tiers. You can press Alt and it drops the present - and once a cat walks up to it, it disappears. So, if a spot is tough - it's handy. :)

Also, you get more presents the more you fail - so the game is actually trying to make it easier for you. *nod nod*

Inspired by this video I grabbed the game.  It's really fun, if a bit difficult on the later levels. I hope you continue to reveal some of these older games I and others may not remember (even though I love these older games).

I'm 15 and when I found an old IBM in my old house back in 2002, I found some games with it. One of them were alley cat, and I actually enjoyed it, and this was back in 2002, when games like, for example, halo were out. Then the IBM broke, but I downloaded Alley Cat about half an hour ago. What's more is that I ran it as an application, not in DOSBOX.

I think it's because back then, games just had to be fun, whereas today, games are expected to sell, so they go for the easy dazzling-graphics cop-out instead of actually making games that are fun to play.

That makes sense... But I think for many people who don't know that, it would be confusing if I suddenly used the word "Queen" to refer to a female cat in general. Thanks for the info. :)

OMFG I LOVED this game!

Alley Cat difficulty was HELL.

Making kitty prints is critical, since if the broom has no mess to clean up, he will try to knock you out the window, exactly like it happened in the room with the giant cheese.

I could never do the room eating out of the dog bowls. It tends only to appear in the higher difficulties, and on Alley Cat, they pretty much wake up almost instantly.

Yeah, the broom is extremely annoying, although at least it doesn't kill you like almost everything else in the game... And thanks for the info about female cats.

You remember the difficulty at the beginning? (You chose kitten) Every time you 'win', it steps your difficulty to the next rank. It's nice that you played this, though, because I honestly had a lot of fun with it when I played, even when I played it again as an adult.

Yeah, the higher difficulty levels are awfully hard. I don't think I've ever "finished" the game, although there might be a highest level.
