This isn't samba, in samba you isolate your hips and you tend to move them in a figure of 8 to fit with the steps, not grind down and roll them in circles. I've been doing samba since I was 7 and this isn't how you move your hips, well not how I've been taught anyway. =/

Based on your argument, why is samba not in her blood? Samba is a derivative of "Semba" which is from Angola in West Africa. At least one quarter of Black American lineage is also Angolan (see Henry Louis Gates, Jr. -Harvard Professor). Slaves were exported to what is now the US, Carribean, and Souh America. This is why there are similar moves in Carribean, Black American, and Afro-Latin Dancing.

However, you don't really need "blood" to do any dance. Just determination and practice!!

My issue was with the reasons that supported that comment. You were saying that the reason why she is not a good samba dancer is b/c she isn't a native Brazilian.

I was suggesting that you needn't be a native of a particular country to master the dancing. For instance, there are Japanese and Filipino hip hop dancers that can put urban American dancers to shame. It isn't in their "blood."

The Angolan lineage information isn't a theory. It's proven due to Gates Jr.'s groundbreaking mitochondrial DNA research (see PBS website).

I've seen her other videos. Her arms are uncharacteristic of Brazilian dancing. I notice that some moves are extremely exaggerated, hopefully for sake of teaching beginners -but not performing. I recommend checking out other Brazilian dance videos for Rio Style "on your feet" samba.

That's because Brazilians have the advantage of seeing one another do the dance and begin visually learning and experiencing the dance as youngsters.

Also, not all Brazilians can "rock" at samba. Some Brazilians only know the basic step.

Some can do it well, but it's realistic to imply that EVERY Brazilian is a Raissa de Oliveira. Some are better than others, just like people of other cultures. There are always people in the world who can dancer better or worse than you.
