@chairlog I totally agree. I thought drum and bass was all going to go this direction but it wasn't to be and I eventually lost interest. This was the quality side of d&b along with the New Forms album by Roni Size and Adam F's Colours album. I had the 12inch of this from release and my father lost it for me. Still, shit happens.
coulndt agreee wif ya more, its fking blasformy photek is an aboluste legend he forged his trade form the oldschool...venetian who....the candian that jumped on the band wagon a couple of years ago.
correct! who the FUCK is this venetian whoever/whatever his name is, compared to photek? photek probably invented this style of D&B, and the man who followed (not copied) photeks style was teebee, probably the most skilled producer ever known to D&B...Big up Photek & TeeBee!!!
@xXJimmyChaosXx venetian snares is that obnoxious breakcore i can't stand. although i'd have to say that Plug (luke vibert) beat Photek to the punch when it came to elevating drum n' bass sounds to drill n' bass concepts.
The fact that someone (Teebee) took on the arduous and exhaustive task of remixing this track is a testament to it's musical depth and percussive complexity. Not mentioning the fact that it's one of the greatest electronic productions of all time, and 10 years old. One of my top 10 tracks of all time.
This Track is THE watermark for technical, abstract breakbeat. In regards to technical programming it has few equals in any electronic musical Genre. It stands alone in every conceivable musical categorization. Philosophy, Breakbeat, Programming, and Musical Structure. Absolutely Timeless. This Track has Inexhaustible Musical Value. For some, this work of art takes hundreds of listens for musical understanding.
I have to agree.....Photek (Aquarius) is a pylon in the foundation of intelligent D&B. His Form & Function release was mind bending. Although his "Solaris" release threw me for a sonic loop (still a fantastic sexy album, but far from D&B....more house than anything).
@arcon2 it's a very good and awesome track (one of my favorites), but i think Aphex Twin's work on the Hangable Autobulb EP's as AFX surpasses this, in regards to skittery drill n' bass textures and programming.
Outstanding musical art, photek is not for everybody : )

This track is near perfect. When it was first released it sounded different and original and all these years later it still sounds unique.

Don't forget, Photek has been easily owned by guys like Venetian Snares.

fuck off! venetian snares is a prick. photek is a god when it comes to textured sounds and setting atmospheres.

easily owned? never confuse imitators with originators. venetian snares beats are rather primitive by comparison...
