there should have been a rubber washer between the fill valve and the tank. quite a few videos left that part which made for a frustrating weekend for me. also, everyone should know that this along with many other videos about the fluidmaster replacement are not complete in the proper instructions. read the directions.
I went to install this, it ain't as easy as the video makes it seem. Can they get real and show a lady who never did this before showing you step by step. Don't leave nothing out, lets show it all, leaking water, on your knees, cutting the flush valve. Got it all together and it leaks!!!! This SUCKS
BTW, The warranty is for 5 years on the Fluidmaster W43AK Complete Repair Kit with Whisper Fill Valve. The single valve is only a year. Both of my 8 year old toilets needed the full kits as recommended in this video! I highly recommend doing the entire tank rebuild all at once, it will save you another repair for years to come. NOTE: The wrench needed in my post below is actually called a pipe wrench ;-), a true plumber wrench is a different tool.) I feel empowered by DIY! Thanks!
I'm a weak old lady who could not remove the locknut on the bottom of the tank! Fluidmaster's W43AK instructions say: "6. Remove old flush valve, including flapper, using wrench if necessary." The parts list shows slip pliers and standard pliers. The drawing shows using a wrench on the INSIDE of the tank, pulling the flapper UP. WRONG Another video shows a plumber's wrench under the tank to loosen the locknut holding the flush valve in place. I did it! BAD instructions!
Excellent video. Really helped a great deal with the install. My only suggestion is that you folks completely missed the installation of the Shank/Cone Washer (the black rubber ring with four prongs holding a cone like rubber part in the middle). You need to suggest to pull out the middle cone and place the rubber washer on the Valve (step#4 of your instructions).
Also, it's worth mentioning that you need to ensure that the bowl itself is leveled using the 2-3 bolts; if not, it'll drip.
Good report, and then people just don't want to enforce the 10 year warranty anyways. You have to be skeptical of new products since 1999. Lowest price is not key factor in being fooled either. Some things have a dastardly high price
@TheGreatCorneliuski I have a fluidmaster in my other bathroom. And it fills up every 45 minutes. And the flapper is replaced. But I do like the peerless flapper though.
So it fills slowly? I had that recently, I took it apart and could not tell why because the water pressure is supposed to push up the rubber seal when the leveler drops. It's as if the rubber seal stuck shut where the water comes straight up the center tube at the top. Maybe it just needs some waterproof grease.
@TheGreatCorneliuski No it dosent fill slowly. What happens is is that when the cup floats up it dosent shut off so I have to rattle it or slap it and it'll stop
there also should have been rubber washers between the two large screws (that attach the tank to the basin) and tank.

At 3:12 in the video, there are nuts securing the bolts to the bottom of the tank. At 3:16 the nuts are gone. What's up with that?

They just love those returning problems. That's why Peerless has a 10 year warranty over at Walmart. Fluidmaster has a 1 year warranty.
