Jean-Dang Maurice.

  • This is not Muay Thai and no Muay Boran !

These are drawings of Professor Ngo Xuan Binh to the book "Fight Nhat Nam." This is a book for school Nhat Nam. Please correct the annotations to the video.

  • It looks like Muay Thai has more Trapping and Clinching and Ground Fighting :D

Do they still teach this in Traditional Muay Thai or Muay Boran?

  • I think these illustrations show Vietnamese traditional martial art Nhat Nam not Muay Thai. I remember read a book that showed these techniques.

  • this is viet not thai

  • This is Thai not Viet XD

  • why would Vietnamese write a book on Thai martial arts?

  • mhm I dont know, but this is Thai not Viet. lols

  • Go to the site. It says "Vietnam Travel". The martial arts is Thai though.

  • WHat are you talking about? the website says Vo Thuat Co Truyen Vietnam-Vietnamese Traditonnal Martial Arts

  • because they have no martial arts of their own.

  • Who the fuck said it was purely Thai martial art? We're Southeastasians.

  • What is the Vietnamese form of Muay Thai then? I know all other SEA countries have a variation of MT exept vietnam...hell even malaysia has a form (tamoi) but I have NEVER heard of a Vietnamese form. Being much more Chinese infuenced I beileve they used Kung Fu if they used any Unarmed fighting techniques at all (I have seen Ho Chi Miihn doing Tai Chi in black and white)

  • @insanox These are drawings of Professor Ngo Xuan Binh to the book "Fight Nhat Nam." This is a book for school Nhat Nam.

  • This is Southeastasian...

  • Totally agree

  • Dude, the language in the book is Thai NOT Vietnamese unless viets use vowels above and below consinents. As far as I know Viet use a modified latin script or chinese characters This is Thai Kedai. It is however not so clear so I could be wrong but I really dont think so,

  • @Buxxby These are drawings of Professor Ngo Xuan Binh to the book "Fight Nhat Nam." This is a book for school Nhat Nam. Please correct the annotations to the video.

  • Sorry for not talking in this post for long. I repeat that as I have known there are only Vietnamese and Russion versions of those books. We are so sorry about that. Several people who practice this Nhat Nam school have already posted it on internet. I myself also posted a movie of Tiger Grabbing Exercise captured by me on youtube months before. I also had an interview with him about this exercise (in my blog and in Vietnamese). The person who did the exercise is one of my friend.

  • If I am right, Vietnamese men dressed like in the pictures from hundreds to a few thousand years ago. Remember reading it from somewhere. Anyway search "Nhat Nam" on YouTube you will find motion picture of this ancient martial art.

I wouldn't call it or say it's like Thai, it quiet different. The ancestor of Muay Thai martial arts lays in Cambodia by the way.

  • That's not true.THE FACT IS!!!You will not be able to find the art of "two hands swords", the art of "fist binding", the art of "Mai Sork", which are the fundametal of muaythai in any of Akorian's basrelief or record.

  • Can someone please tell me where I can find this book. I would really appreciate it. That website seems to be all in Vietnamese. Does anyone know how to get it or where on that website.

  • please help me to get this book. I'm desire to get it.

  • could someone tell me how I can get this book!? PLEASE

  • check in website nhatnam dot com

  • The newest version of those 2 books is in hard covers

    and just issued.

  • The older versions are in paper - back forms and can be found in some used book shops in Hanoi.

As far as I've known those books have been written just in vietnamese and Russian. The Russian one is a translation work made by Nguyen Van Cu. He is one of the students and excellent assistant of the Master Ngo Xuan Binh.

Hope this little information helps you somewhat.

I myself have some copies of those books. They are all paper back versions. I have not had newest one yet.

  • These images are exactly copy from the book "Nhất Nam Căn Bản". The 1st picture is page 266, the 2nd is page 267, the 3rd is page 268... the last page is 265.

Nhat Nam is from Thanh Hoa-Nghe Tinh (Chau Hoan-Chau Ai in the past) not from the Sounth of Viet Nam so you can not tell this kind of martial art is related to Thai.

  • The images actually are from the welknown book " Nhat Nam Can Ban " or " Nhat Nam Basic " that is written by the founding master of Nhat Nam, Vo su Ngo Xuan Binh.

The history of Nhat Nam now is still misterious to even Nhat Nam practicers . It is now so interesting to see that Thais also feel so close to Thai martial art when the look at those pics.

  • nomames estan verga los pasos...

  • Yes they look more like thai techniques, I agree. Also in the drawings there are mongkols around the heads...and if South Vietnam was a part of ancient Siam, there must have been some influence. Interesting, thanks for sharing.

  • thanks for these interesting images, xataan.

Could you tell me if they are traditional thai techniques or viet techniques? Thanks a lot!

  • It's hard to tell, for around 150 years ago, South Vietnam was part of the Siam kingdom. Nowadays, it looks more like traditionnal thai martial arts than vietnamese ones. Thank you!

  • I think you are mostly right when stated above.

Actually the so called Viet techniques seen popularly now all contain somewhat, though dim, Chinese element. Those

features of the current schools available in Viet land now have their origins from different reasons

which i would love to touch later in detail, but in general you could absolutely assign those to the availability of Chinese culture in Viet land for so long.

  • I guess becacuse the Tai (Tdai)came from southern China, before they merged and blended with the native Suwannaphoom people to become Siamese people. They also found the ancient drum called "Mahoratueg" with the painting of men playing instrument called "can" in the northern vietnam ,which related to the Zueng(Tai) people 3000 years ago.

  • xataan....south vietnm was never apart of siam, it was apart of khmer krom[east cambodia] do a lil research b4 u post.

  • @TeeSok I believe that it's still in debate.
