Her interpretation of this song completely escapes me. I think she was musically pulling our leg, at least that's the only excuse I can make for her.
@offalyfan, explain where her timing is off, or as you say "All over the shop", The structure of the song leaves a lot of room for different feels so I just don't see how, under those parameters, one can be "all over the shop", unless you're refering to meter, and then, there's not much change in meter either. So, please explain to me.
Such a fantastic performance by a truly extraordinary singer. Lisa has made a point on being original and authentic even when doing a cover she puts herself in to what she is singing.
So many so called "artist" now days need lights, smoke machine, weird costumes, dancers on stage and so on to perform.. Just give Lisa a guitar and a Mic and you can be amazed.
i always find myself marveling at how a person with so much creativity, who is actually putting herself out there is not already successful worldwide..it is a strange world we live in..amazing performance
Brilliant cover! Stripped down passion - love this interpretation. Love the geezer who comes in on bells bang on time at 3:36, freaks out for the ending then stomps off when he's done.
Amazing song and the best performance I've ever heard!!!! Pure ORGASM =) .... specially for the combination of the music at the end and the smile of Lisa... Perfect!!!
@Volgin93 this is obviously a question of taste ;-)) Johnny Cash loved the original so much that he decided to cover it. And he even said that he wished he would have written this song.
@karimamilena I can attest to that but as the saying goes Johnny Cash makes others songs his... it's the deep deep soulfulness he brings to almost everything he does.
@SirAylmerBostock omg are you freakin serious? what are you, 12? find your facts before speak. i suppose you think metallica did the original "turn the page" too, hmm?

You know those films, where you see the final scene, and then the music starts and the end credits roll… and you get crazy goosebumps all over your body… as you realize and see the whole world with different eyes…
This is that kind of music.
I even know a film I might make, that would fit perfectly.
Something this reminds me of: I realized, that instead of following the values of others, you can write down your *own* principles and philosophies in a book… and call it “the bible of me”. If you then do “bible studies” on *those*, you gain deep insights and to grow personally. But in *your own* interests.
Because in your world, the most important thing, is you. (Those who disagreed in the past, all died out. Sorry.)
Lisa and Damien always knew how to completely transform covers into their own. I was pleasantly surprised when she played this in NYC back in October. So goosebump-inducing.
If I were to believe that aliens exist among us, she would be the one and only candidate, so different, so simple, and so sweet! watch till the end, turns crazy towards the end!!!!
Interpration is an art into itself, , an that drone effect on the dulcimer kind of suspended the emotions of the song creating a tension, which was released by that fabulous crashing effect drumming at the end. Well done Lisa n Band, an thumbs up for originality, Cunla
@Scientician look, It just wasn't such a life-changing experience for me. I guess I'll have to wait for my next life when I come back as andy warhol's husband or something. Till then I'm quite satisfied with my view that the emperor needs to find himself some clothes
@fashklash oh my! you have such a big idea of yourelf right? you can see the things we dont dare to admit. she is not an emperor, and the absolut truth does not exist. so you can say its crap and I can say that its mindblowing . so keep your view for yourelf and I can keep mine
@zemaraime *shrug* tbh I didn't expect much more from a bevy of scenester yuppies;Indeed, I uh, (cleaning my nails gloatingly) I foresaw this angry barrage of responses. I was simply making an observation. and judging by the reaction, I have clearly hit nerve that is particularly tender for the hipster community. Also, I would like to point out that the "emporer" I was referring to was a personifation of the hipster culture as a whole...
@fashklash how many months do you get in to leave your comment? It certainly does nothing to you. you are totally indifferent, "hipster community scenester yuppies" it comes out that you have no ability to judge people unless you generalize them. and after all why so much anger? how old are you mentally? you remind me of some old miserable men/women who endlessly leave bitter remarks about everyone. what about start focusing on your inner world for a change?
@zemaraime in fact, I do like her. I like her dress-sense, her music etc. I just thought I'd shake things up a bit. and to some extent some of her listeners ARE the agonizing hipster types, but I can' t judge HER for that; Like most Danish people I know, she is also a very nice person; And I'm a great fan of all things Irish so, I actually have no qualms with her or her music
@fashklash Lol, so 'cause you know "nice" Danish people? I laughed when you emphasized on Danish people, as if being Danish made people nice. Haha. Good stuff.
@indegruv her accent is just another drawcard for superficial, ultra-fashion-concious, art noveau worshipping, in the scene, know-it-all, student types. It does nothing for me. nice voice though
@incongra IF if you dont like this you havent got an ear for good music........this is haunting and also very similiar to the doors build up of drama in a song.......the end comes to mind....whats up with you haters saying she cant sing?.....she would sing yall under the table and then eat you for breakfast.....have some respect....this lady is a genious
@exteriorzulu09 oh so she would "sing yall under the table" because she is a "genious" eh? And where did I say I didn't like her?
Yor'e right about one thing though. "The End" does come to mind. But not the Doors version. More like the end of sanity. You shouldn't support musicians as though they were a football team or something. It's undignified.
@exteriorzulu09 People who don't think she has a good voice are the kind of people who think a good voice lies in spotless technique and intonation. Which is all good and stuff. But what REALLY matters in music is your own sound. People who can convey emotion with their voice have more to offer artistically than someone who has perfect pitch. Alas, some people only care about skill. Which is why bands like dragonforce have any fans at all.
@fashklash so her being from Ireland automatically makes her complicit with "hipster" culture? whatever that is. just listen to the sounds and get over yourself. which is probably gonna be tough since you feel the need to justify your insecurities by flashing pop-psych analysis on a video of a nice girl singing.
Lisa, you sound so much better when your band is playing with you. That rinky dink little instrument is almost boring to hear after a little while. But all gets great when the full band chimes in.
I love the Dulcimer!! I wondered when Lisa would use. I haven't seen it in any other song of hers but she always uses interesting intrumentation. It makes her unique and that is why I listen to her
She has it tuned DAD (one of the dulcimer's regular tunings), which she uses as a drone throughout the song. I hope she uses this instrument more in the future. Some really great musicians have used it in the past, such as Joni Mitchell and Richard Fariña.
she rocked NY too.... i also got to see her back when she played with DR... and she kind of stole the show with her voice, though damien is to me also a great artist.
Simply amazing! ;o) great to see Lisa finally making giant steps in her own right. Fantastic debut album and great lives shows. This cover at the end was just brilliant. What a star! ;o) x
she was incredible tonight in san francisco. this video is awesome. i hate depeche mode, so i was glad she did such a great job with this song. very cool atmosphere. great warmup to david gray. i would definitely pay to see her again.
We heard Lisa and Band at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix. They rocked the place. So fine.
Come back to Arizona, Lisa. We love your music and creativity. You were amazing in person, so real, authentic, especially in a small venue as the headliner.
Simply a fantastic rendition of Depeche Mode's classic. Don't hate on her. Cover songs are a form of flattery. Saw her open for David Gray at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall (Portland, Oregon) on Nov.4, 2009. Just the kind of song to get the crowd energized for David's performance. Watchin' for your mainstream debut Lisa!
I bought her album yesterday....but I wouldn't say she's gone "mainstream" in the U.S. (obviously). She's got a great sound, and I think this cover as well as her other recordings hold quite a bit of potential for stateside exposure.
@erattix I am happy you got it. Enjoy it, because it is my favorite album and she is my favorite singer. I still have not gotten to see her live though :(
@exteriorzulu09 i'm confused... are you saying it sounds more like the johnny cash version, or are you saying that the song "personal jesus" is originally by johnny cash? cuz "personal jesus" is definitely by depeche mode...

We heard Lisa and Band at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix. They rocked the place. So fine.
Come back to Arizona, Lisa. We love your music and creativity. You were amazing in person, so real, authentic, especially in a small venue as the headliner.

She takes a song and makes it uniquely hers. Im a great fan of hers and have seen her live. An amazing musician and person! Well done Lisa!"

Anyways, I disagree with some of you. Any song she sings sounds simply amazing whether it be one of her own or a cover.

@erattix well she has a solo album out already and an ep.
