No, one big roundabout wouldn't have done the trick. The magic roundabout works extemely well. Much better than one big roundabout would. Trust me, I had to manouver this roundabout when taking my driving test, I reckon the design is excellent - you can take a quick path across this at the busiest of times if you're used to it rather than siting there for 2 minutes wating for an opening.
Must be a nightmare if you're not used to it though ;-)
