The key line for me was "And the land was breathing steadily". Some neuroscientists have suggested that the essence of consciousness resides in the very space that surrounds us. Since much of that space is occupied by land then it follows that consciousness and the land may be deeply interwoven. Thanks for adding to another piece of the puzzle Joel. Sorry I'm a day late -- Saturn is fading in the western sky and I had to get in some last minute parting shots with my telescope!
