Hiya. I agree about Herb Ellis. We base The DEvil's Kitchen Collective on that whole vibe that she has in the background of that album. Luv it! So I don't understand why the producers drown her in violins & smaltz for her next set of recordings - when this parred down one was so genuine & hip.
The best version of this Herb Ellis song - with the man himself accompanying her. Della suits this simple delivery and for me - its the tune I want at my funeral. When I leave - wanna' do it with Della taking me to hell or high clouds! x
@durgadanco Having heard other versions of "Detour Ahead" I have to agree that Della seems to get to the heart of what the song is all about.I managed to get to see Herb Ellis in the eighties.If he'd never composed anything other than this song I'd still have been a lifelong fan.
