Plane flew through bunch of flying birds and got one or more birds into each engine. Thats why both engines failed. Simple as that. It caused compressor stall and flameout with broken fans heavily disbalanced. It never restarted in that conditions.
It was a flock of devil birds sent by Satan but then GOD stepped in and said NO SATAN - LEAVE THESE PPL ALONE THEY DID YOU NO HARM and he helped bring the plane down on the holy waters of the Hudson.
No - science saved them - Well built aircraft, well trained pilots, helicopters, boats - u could easily say the birds were sent by Satan but that would sound stupid - much like your comment.
i dont get it, people keep saying they love airbus because the plane didnt brake, and yet the engines failed.... why did they failed in the first place! >.> doesnt makes sence at all
they? ... as far as i know a bird strike would only cause 1 engine to fail. a plane's engine should be able to handle the weight of the plane and support the plane until it can safely be landed in case 1 engine fails. the plane had 2 engines. a b757 took off after a bird strike and yet landed safely on the same airport. that just proves how incompetent the pilot was. he risked 100+ lives just to make history. i don't think he should be allowed to fly ever again.
no they weren't, their captain was skilled and had balls, there was no luck involved at all other than perhaps that they were close enough to the hudson
so what if this happened on takeoff from denver? a skille d captain would belly it into a field? i dont think so.
the pilots did their job, but there was an incredible amount of luck, or random chance if you wanna call it that. Ive flown for the airlines for 35+ years, that was pretty lucky.
In a plane water landing its a 50/50 chance of survival, it can go right, or it can go wrong. If you were on this plane i think u would have appreciated this pilot for saving your life and all the other passengers. this took bravery, courage, brains and this pilot is a true hero nomatter what anyone says. Lets face it, how many people in the world could do that????
i could its was not exactly hard to land it all depends on the situation were you are and who you are. the only thing h controlled was speed and the angle of contact not verry hard at all but im not saying being put in that situation is a walk in the park. those pilots kept it cool
Lmao lauralush thinks shes got what it takes to fly a fully loaded a320 in one of the most busiest airspaces in the world lmao. wrong speed wrong angle of approch = plane breaks up tail rips off most people die woman
he must of put it down on the water with a very high angle of attack to toucdown as slow as possible. It would be interesting to see the touchdown on the water for training purphouses. No disrespect
not it is not just like a normal landing geesh some people its all about a different angle and approarching the water at a lower speed that you would land on a normal landing. and im pretty sure thery didnt ise flaps or spoilers for landing in the water
there is no way to put anything in front of the engines to avoid something sucked in because of the massive airflow and airspeed. remember this are very high power jet engines. plus small birds or other things can do damage too, so the material had to be dense and would decrease the airflow and power... no way.

erm... what was the miracle exactly? just a big glider..people do it as a hobby. second, surely landing in water is better than smashing down on the city. credits to pilots yes, miracle....nah
most water landings end in crashes. the jets are very close to the water. if one engine hits the water to early, if there is only a little bit off left or right, it will break the plane into pieces. water is very hard.
the miracle was in the angle of impact onto the water the odds of getting it right are 1 in a million,
1)too horizontal the engines scoop up the water, the nose crashes down onto the water = breakup of plane or sending the aircraft straight underwater
2) too vertical the tailplane strikes the water first ripping it off and leaving a gaping hole for the aircraft to fill up with water after it also comes crashing down onto the surface
in my opinion it was luck an a very skilled professional pilot
I think that Captain Sully's expertise as a glider pilot played a key role in the execution of this controlled crash. His glider experience is not something that all pilots have..... even the seasoned professional pilots.
This was a situation where virtually everything had to go right, with no measurable margins for error.
Yes they do you stupid person. tell you what..see if you can research more than google offers & get back with your results,,now I understand the saying stupid people should not breed..your an example of that one!
Thanks. The problem I'm having on the Channel 4 site is that I get this message: "You need to be within the UK or the Republic of Ireland to watch Channel 4 programmes." So it appears I am unable to watch it. I just hope it airs in the US at some point.

they should make an engine release system for the use of crash landings. In water the plane would just glide on the surface.

Ok, no very high angle of atack bs at all, it needs to go like a regular landing, flaps, pitch, speed all as usual except for gear.
