    I have just had 2 reformer classes for specific injuries. I have always thought that some of these moves being done here could be achieved by somebody who has either done gymnastics or acrobatics from a young age, not an "average joe". Would I be right in thinking that or following pilates will teach someone how to do the above feats???? Any knowledgeable out there have an idea?

  • @lazlo48 actually having no mat makes it a bit easier (if slightly more painful), as the mat is an unstable surface. Still, don't get me wrong, amazing control I wish I was so controlled in my movement..

  • What are some good ways to train for the moves where he used his arms at 2:05? I was able to do everything in the video except the things that required that much use of arms.

  • @Megmanitee search for gymnasticbodies, its a forum and a massive resource for this kind of bodyweight strength training. I'd really advise checking out! The movement at 2:05 is normally referred to as a L-sit or half lever. Enjoy

  • this is pure yoga, however you look at it. i dont know who's come withthe term pilates althogether... its some recent, commercial crap,combining yoga, callanetics and other older methods and techniques.

I started doing pilates as a sports specific rehab for an injured knee and have fallen in love with its precision, beauty and absolute difficulty of it... ps to you who think this is "gay".. um, even my 11 year old son can recognize the sheer feat of strength and control this takes... the lack of clothing is so you can see what muscle groups are being activated... get a life people!

  • People who degrade weight lifting OR yoga are ignorant on the subject of either. BOTH can be difficult, and are used for different reasons and body types, you are comparing Apples and Oranges, hammer and a screw driver, Both serve to create 2 different body types, and are both necessary to create a well balanced body.

  • @gullette777 the yoga i agree with you but not so much with the weights, calisthenics alone can pack on just as much muscle as weights can and can get you more ripped then weights can, on top of that calisthenics is better for the body in that it deals with your natural body weight therefore not damaging any joints unlike weight lifting

    you have to use specific muscles that you wouldnt have exercised as a marine. this would only be easy to you if youve been doing pilates for years

  • I'm a Pilates teacher and I agree that it's an impressive performance. I mean there is a bit more than Pilates inside and surely that body doesn't come to Pilates from nothing, maybe from a classical dancer, but impressive!
