  • BEST ALBUM.

  • Magnifico Albun de esta mitica banda

  • I agree with Rob, "In the land" is one of my favorite albums of all times as well. I think I heard it for the first time in 1975, bought it then bought it again when released on CD.

I met Richard Sinclair a few times, For me one of best musicians and, most of all, singers of England. Check the first Caravan albums and also Hatfield and the North records.

  • @tifax2000 hippy

  • A typical example of quintessential English public school Rock.

  • @TheMeleemonkey I've never done drugs & I still think this is an awesome song. Yet again, I really like weird things.

  • definitly 'shrooms work with this one luvit thanx so much for posting

  • David Sinclair is the most underrated keyboardist of all time. His note choices on the organ were tasteful, yet always emotional.

  • This is just so GOOD,Love the Cd.Only been into Caravan for what 2 month. One of my top bands from yesteryear..And just getting in to the Strobes and Camel. This is what weed was made for lol

  • Che perla quest'album. Riportiamo in auge il progressive !

  • Grande gruppo! Prog Forever!!!!

  • uh, progjazz fusion, that is Dave Stewart.

  • Yes, there aren't many musical forms that are so peaceful and worthy of appreciation as the psychedelic rock of those times. Why won't anybody produce more of this fantasy-like music today? If you're serious about listening to some cosmical genius, try Michael Manring's 'Adhan' or Jason Ricci.

  • great vid. well matched. Just like the OGWT

  • Caravavan.... part of every man's education!

  • Man im gettin old but i still want to go a night wander in the woods full of mushrooms again before i die. drop the shackles of the middle age responsibility for one weekend of madness.

  • UIVMM I think Caravan's kepboard player was David Sinclair (a la Matching Mole) not either of the Dave Stewarts! there's a lot of muddle in these posts

  • geez - they played this on BBC Radio 6 a few days ago!

  • @daviniaosgood and when its dark a boat will pass.

  • There is something joyous about this song.A hangover from 60 s pysche, but thats no bad thing.Bands were prob doing more drugs in the 70 s than in the 60s!.This and Golf Girl are my fave Caravan tunes.Too young to remember this first time round but i got into it in the 90 s at around the same time i got into Nick Drake. The two always remind me of what iwas doing then, although they are very different artists. Both very English tho i guess.

  • great band saw them many times in their hey day and glad to say rediscovering and just as good.,

  • great song

  • stoner music :)

  • Caravan is by far my favorite group. They, and the Moody Blues are the best music I've come across in my 61 years of life. The British have created the best music. God bless The Isle of St. James.

  • @plamlord me 2

  • One of most underrated bands in history :/

Fintastic acid rock mit mushrooms ;P

  • Found a copy of this in great nic on the weekend, I freakin' love this album. All my favourite albums where recorded 10-15 years before I was born.

  • Ah l'école de Canterbury, avec Camel l'un des meilleurs groupes de ces temps regrettés..."gone but not forgotten..."

  • And what is the name of the animated film? It looks interesting.

  • i love this music, and i am 15!!!

  • Wonderful song. This is my favourite one, even now, after nearly 40 years.

I've been loving this band since I was a young boy.

    Thanks from Rome, Italy.

  • simplement génial !very good song !

  • back then there were stoners lisening to stoned band and as long as everyone was stoned then the music was awesome

  • truth

  • when i listened to caravan in around 1976, i said caravans ambience meant what it would like to be a whimscal hippie. brillant.. having a carefree and childlike attitude to life. then I grew up. thanks for the memories.

  • In the land of grey and pink / where only boy scouts stop to think

  • Comment removed

  • the old cartoons fit perfectly

  • caravan, brings back good memories of many stoned saturdays at Fishys

  • cool atmospheric visuals blend perfectly well with this Canterbury gem.

I was a roadie for them. ok. that´s not true but i did carry in an amp or two while i was waiting for them to play an artschool dance *****

  • in the land of the grey and pink and from gils who plump up at night are two really good album, can someone recommend me another???, id like to listen more of this band

  • Try also "If I Could Do It All Over Again, Id Do It All Over You", "Cunning Stunts" and "Waterloo Lily"

  • @Kesbol nice .

  • well, thanks, im gonna hear it, im sure that i going to be nice

  • Caravan only did three albums worth listening to - the two you mentioned (their 3rd and 5th) plus their 2nd 'If I could do it all over again...".

I bought every album they ever made, but I've got rid of all except those three because they are terrible - especially 'Cunning Stunts' and 'Waterloo Lily'. Hideous and annoying.

But 'Grey and Pink' remains my favourite album by any band, ever. Which goes to show you can't produce consistently good music for more than two or three years.

  • Their first album, just called "Caravan", is also a classic.

  • I still have this album. Awesome!

  • Convinced me to buy album.

  • Take some mushrooms and then listen? You won't need to be convinced about anything ever again!

  • Yeah ! this is a great gift ! thank you a lot !

But, what is the name of the movie please ? Have a sweet time on earth peace

  • Great video my friend!A masterpiece of music, and you married a perfect pictures.

    Thank you

  • this is the magic of sounds...

  • i never thought "pink' was a s good as what preceded it.......i actually prefer pyes voice.....although richards voice is growing on me.

  • Sublime !

  • from a buck 50 on..... i can hear some musicians who could have inspired phish

    really cool stuff

just got turned onto this today

    what a great band

    thanks for the post

  • just stumbled upon this had all the vinyl and have to admit i missed this, thanks

  • caravan is the best prog band ever, the most melodic, with an excelent bassist

  • If all the prog groups would have a fine sense of melody such as this group, I might cease to despise progressive rock!

  • there used to be times when I listened to that song with a friend of mine, all day long.... now when he commited a suicide I can't stop thinking about him when I am listening to this beautiful song.

  • am just getting into Caravan now didnt bother with em in the 70 but cant get enough of them now enduring music

    classic

  • Great stuff, many thanks. My sister used to play this album when it was new and I was just 6, and I remember it even from then - especially Golf Girl. Thanks for the vid and nice work on crediting everything involved - something far too few people do on here.

  • listened to the album many times on a Budget Bus bus to India, from london, Nov and Dec 1975.

  • Yes I listened to this after takin lots of LSD...ough!

  • @screenanme

    hhaaaaaa

  • this is my fav song of all times, it is magic. Thank you for the vid.

  • my mum introduced this to me when i was 14.

    great tune from wicked album!

  • lovely liberty cap music...innocent ...the piano is stunning...wonderful

  • really cute! This my fav Cravan song and your vid is really good with it!

    :)

  • love the vampire seal spectre at 1:50 frightening the baby chickens and spoiling the landscape

  • same organ sound as Dave Stewart (egg, hatfield, etc).

  • Yep! And just for those who don't know: This is NOT the Eurythmics guy, but David L. Stewart - the one who had a No. 1 hit in the UK with with his cover of 'It's My Party' together with Barbara Gaskin in 1981...

  • yeah it's a shame he has the same name as the lame eurythmics guy, making us have to explain that to others so we dont look like we like that pop crap when talking about prog.

  • @rob251150

Er - it's Dave Sinclair on keyboards, actually. His cousin Richard Sinclair is on bass and vocals, Pye Hastings on guitar and Richard Coughlin on drums.

This is from a truly great album; easily their best.

  • @progjazzfusion I'm pretty sure it is Mike Ratledge who began the entire fuzz (and wah) organ trend that was later utilized by a large amount of Canterbury bands.

  • @Tengent - Yes I agree mike was the innovator of fuzz organ in canterbury (and probably of all music back then), and I love soft machine the best of all the canter bands, but mikes fuzz organ sounded much different as he played a lowrey organ, where egg+caravan used hammond organs that sound the same to each other with fuzz. I have both kinds of organs and run them with a fuzz pedal + you cant get mikes sound with a hammond, and cant get egg or caravans with a lowrey.

  • @progjazzfusion Ahh very true. When Dave was in Egg, he used two different type of distortion pedals. One that Mont also used on his bass, and another one used solely for the organ.

  • I love it, nice! Thanks!

  • greatest! one of the greatest manchesters bands. thanks from moscow

  • Er... don't wanna be fussy, but they're from Canterbury - that's far away from Manchester (-; ...

  • righto Mr pedantic .......the mans from Russia and making positive comment about this song..and you reply with a snidey little comment about the geographical error..what a pole smoker

  • he just corrected his post politely. Don't be cranky =)

  • vroeger wel te verstaan he?!! hahaha

  • hier vrijden camille en ik avond aan avond op kant 1 afgelopen omdraaien en bijkant 2 verder..... ik vond het altijd een opgewekt liedje!????....X
