YES I do know that! It happens so often and it's always like I'm the only person who notices it aaand everyone just things I'm nuts. ... Talking about the learning a new word thing here btw. Anyway, on with the video. <<
Fun fact, in paper towns they mention Alexandria Indiana. I live in Alexandria Indiana. :)
I've been thinking alot lately about this book, and how i make certain people seem more beautiful than they actually are. That's why i love John Green's writing. They are about people stepping back and really seeing the world as it is rather than through their own rose colored glasses.
Anyway you're amazing, i fell in love with the fact you're a fan of doctor who and now of john green, it's a good n
My God, your Beautiful. And not just physically, any girl that can think metaphysically must have a beautiful mind as well. That book reminds me of Descarte.
true, but maybe the reason that words seem to become more common after we learn them is because we are more aware of them. perhaps they were always there but before we knew what it meant we just ignored it
Going to try and stay distinct from the incoherent blob of comments below: If you want to read about never truly knowing anyone, read Pirandello's One, No One, One Hundred Thousand. You'll like it, though it starts to get a bit shit when it actually develops a plot.
i don't understand a single word you say, i don't even try to, but i also read harry potter and you seem nice so i started writing a fuckin supa joycekindoflike book to get you, it's gonna be awesome, it has many dragons and wizards inside, i named a princess with your name, i rescue the princess, princess fall in love with me, i kill the dragon, princess fall in love with me again. watch out when it's gonna be out. cu
I heard the reason for what you're experiencing is due to the reticulum cortex. Which is why when you here a word and then here it somewhere else it's like AHA.
I had the same experience with the word "precipice". I heard it in the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and then the word precipice started showing up all over the place. PRECIPICE lol
This video was great, I know the feeling of which you speak well as it happens to me quite often! I really want to read The Great Gatsby soon as its been waiting for me in my bookshelf for a while now. What you talked about was very interesting and John Green-esque. btw, nice puff levels at the end there ;)
ideas are, unlike words, always present around us, of which people constantly relate. finding a new way to define things will ensure that it appears in the same way.
btw, you have officially become one of my favorite youtubers. you're gorgeous and adorable. also, we're quite similar. like, you're definitely someone i would get on with IRL. =]]
I'd never heard the word 'shibboleth' up until recently - I'm hoping to chance upon it in a Hebrew text at some point. I've not read anything by Aldous Huxley yet either, but put Brave New World on my to-buy list a while back.
I learnt what 'hitherto' meant (it was in Jekyll and Hyde) and then it popped up numerous times throughout the day (on Have I Got News For You and in an article by Terry Wogan among some places).
The Consciousness is something that we all explore. When I look into different books I do find new words and try to discover their meaning why it is used in a certain context.
Can you help me? .. i'v always watched yr vids now i always do ( i don tknow y i said that lol totaly irelivent) okk here's the thing ... basically im 16 going on 17 and i feel like i dont like my self i feel i want to be like when i was a kid .. im so confused and energyless right now (and im doing A level too)
No one i know has any energy at the moment, just hang on, once it all clears (and it will clear, as someone I forget said "This, too, will pass") you will feel so fabulous. Other than that, I am not the best person to ask about this sort of thing - I presently find myself very aware of my labyrinth - so maybe talking to someone in person about the way you feel would help?
Unfortunately, I just turned the last page yesterday, but I didn't want it to end!
why couldn't it last forever?
Highlighting? that's so Margo :p
But you might be first.
You are so right about the new-word-hearing thing. I experience that a lot lately.
I loved to see 'nerdfighters' in papertowns (well, in the thank you part) but still. It's too bad that I don't hear that word more often outside youtube.
What you say about a new word happened to me just recently. The word 'canon' when referring to the world an author, or creator creates around their story.
It's everywhere! How have I never heard it in this context before?!
Funny, it happened to me just yesterday that I noticed a Paper Towns related theme in another book (The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks). And that is how we often see people in a completely wrong way. Maybe it's really just because John has been talking so much abount it that you start to see these themes in other places.
Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon - "occurs when a person, after having learned some (usually obscure) fact, word, phrase, or other item for the first time, encounters that item again, perhaps several times, shortly after having learned it" - From Wikipedia
I just finished Ros and Guil Are Dead and I think Stoppard was trying to point out that humans have really shallow perceptions of others. Ros was portrayed to be a complete idiot, but what most people need to realize is that he has much more to him than what they see.
Consciousness is really fascinating. It's what what I'm devoting my life to studying. The Huxley quotes were really good and made me think of Nausea by Sartre (which you should read if you haven't). It has a lot to say about how we engage with other people and whether we can ever know them; and even whether we can ever really know ourselves. Good book, and it's fiction (sort of).
i'll definitely read it, i'm really intrigued, i love gatsby. i also love the way you treat literature, like it is so many precious treasures and how eager you are to share them. have i told you lately that i admire you? i really do.
I agree with chelseyjane, it is refreshing to see someone so unashamedly enthusiastic about books! I'm a massive booknerd myself and I love getting good reading recommendations. Thanks Rosianna!
Ahh! I just finished watching Wall-E literally about half an hour ago. It was so cutie pie. I <3 Pixar. As for Huxley, I always found it difficult to wrap my head around his radical observations..but they are very astute I must admit! Oh, and, you should totally be an audio book reader...your voice was made for it! hehe.
omg! The history of Pixar Special, on the Wall-E DVD was great! I watched it twice, and thought I was weird. I love the Walt Disney quote near the end, "when planning a picture, we don't think of grown-ups, we don't think of children; But just of that fine, clean, unspoiled spot down deep in everyone of us, that maybe the world has made us forget, and maybe our picture can help recall." Something like that. Oh, and I absolutely love your videos!!
Oh, I just love Pixar as well! 8D I think my favorite Pixar movie is Toy Story...I saw that like 5 times in theaters when I was a kid. xD
I'm just curious, are you a Narnia fan? I'm just obsessed with everything Narnia related. =D If you are a Narnia fan, which book is your favorite and also, which character is your favorite? Sorry, it's the key question I always ask fellow literature buffs. -shot-
I used to love Narnia, but I didn't have a favourite character. I used to quite like Lucy, because she was the youngest and I'm the youngest. I remember loving The Last Battle.
Hay i just watch your videos but i was wondering if u can help me... i am 16/17 and i feel sad because i don't like the way i am i want to be how i was when i was a kid i feel so useless .. i wonder if u could elp me cuz i dont know ...
Ah yes...The Last Battle is my favorite Narnia book as well because I just love how you get to see all the characters from all the previous books and they all live together. I really hope it'll made into a movie! *crosses fingers that Dawn Treader won't be cancelled and kill the franchise*
omg i totally know what you mean!its like every new english vocab word we get haunts me.
i think i pretty much asked this question in English the other day...
It's kind of like the question, is the color red that I see the same as the color red that you see? and no one can really know so it's mad complicated
lol my cousin brought that up, if my 'red' was your 'green' we would never know we would just both look at it and call it the same color, but looks different to us
For some reason Missy Elliot videos are all lined up as related to yours. Haha. Ching A-ling!
You should go a question answer vlog.
I'm so going to buy this book :) it sounds amazing, I always wonder how much of a person I truly know, what side is the real side and how far there personality goes. And if I'm more 'real' to people than others are.
YES I do know that! It happens so often and it's always like I'm the only person who notices it aaand everyone just things I'm nuts. ... Talking about the learning a new word thing here btw. Anyway, on with the video. <<
