@rezzna1 happened to me as well... I ended up selling my Explosions in the Sky tickets to go see Tallest Man on Earth with a mate at Hammersmith - I can't think of many artists that could make me give up EitS tickets!
the comparisons to him and dylan frustrate me. The reason he's compared to dylan isnt because they write songs that are so similar, in fact when you put them together their guitar playing styles aren't all that close. It's the way they write songs with such ease and sing with such unique and individual voices. They each have such a natural and personal sense to their songs. Sure you can hear an influence of dylan in TMOE's music, but he isnt biting dylans style in any way
i personally prefer him to Bob Dylan..perhaps that because Dylans lyrics were more about the time so i dont relate as much..however both are amazing, and have a massive way with words!
Well it seems we have a debate going over Dylan and Matsson, Dylan is oviously the better song writer. Both deliver skillful music, and not to mention, we haven't had a musician as good as Tallest Man on Earth in a very long time.
this is the first piece from the kexp recordings that actually isn't as good as the album track..the banjo or whatever it is on the album track is heavily missed here!
He is great, but so is Dylan. They are both better than 99.999% of people on earth. So why to fight whos better, when you can put in ur player 1st the tallest man on earth and after dylan and have 2h or more of pure fun?
Oh who really cares? alright, they made a bob dylan comparison. You can't exactly blame them! This guy is just excellent, bob is just excellent, cut the fake frivolity :P
I think about music as a huge kitchen where lots of different ingredients are stored. Sometimes a brillant chef picks a few of these ingredients, adds his own touch and brings a delightful meal to the table. Really no point in worrying so much about Dylan hints in his music etc... Besides that, Dylan's music has been influenced by others before him, and so on...people probably had the same discussions ahah
I will never get tired of Kristian..You can find a banjo version he recorded of this song as a demo back during the Shallow Grave era, it's pretty great.
Is there an album available of these live sessions at KEXP? I prefer these versions so much to the album, even though they are still amazing, the passion in these live ones is epic
what's the big deal if he sounds similar to bob dylan? bob dylan is a great and influential musician. no one is saying he's copying bob or stealing his music. relax, if anything it's a compliment to him. certain artists in a specific genre tend to sound similar. it's like when people say all country music sounds the same and country fans freak out because "every artist sounds different".
@KernoBurno I think this is a misconception of how we listen to music, tbh. Of course, there can be clear similarities between musicians within one and the same genre. That much is def. true, if it wasn't so we wouldn't have genres at all! But I think the phenomenon of "everything sounds the same" within one genre is not a universal truth or rule but rather a case of the listener being inexperienced in listening to that particular style. It's about habituation and listener education imho.
the lyrics and vocals are both piercing....everytime i hear i get chill down my spine...cant get enough of this song...i guess because the meaning matches to that of my life ;)
Anyone know what happened to the videos of him performing outside in the Swedish countryside, just out by the sunset? god those were some of the most beautiful performances I think I've heard him do, but I can't find them anymore.
@kasiadances No no not Hultsfred, are you talking about the recordings where he is alone on a small mountain? Those are still up ;) Search (the tallest man on earth) and you will find, just scroll down and they appear... I tried now and found them
i went to see Explosions in the Sky about a month ago in London... the same night as Tallest Man on Earth was playing about five tube stops away... really, someone somewhere needs to be culpable for that horrific failure in event planning... never thought anyone could make me wish I'd missed Explosions...
@homobarbie just something about him . the way he plays...he plays to play. For the love. u can see the emotion on his face at some parts. its just amazing to hear and watch
@gallowsman13 Actually that's a great observation: he caan carry a tune like paolo nutini but with the raspiness of Dylan. And I love them all, it's like Paolo Nutini+Bob dylan=LOVE x3!
Hahahaha, I was watching this at 12:15, matching the clock in the video exactly and was like "shit this IS live". Then realised I was being a ****ing dunce.
does any1 know what tune this is in? or is it standard? and where to get the tab i tried doing it but can't get it just right.. =p thanks for the help if you can
@jammin2nolimitt Every song of his is in a different tuning. To figure it out you would have to watch an entire concert and see what he changes or ask him.
ok , that's a bit creepy.....i just noticed the clock on the wall and realized that it's almost the exact same time as the clock on my wall....like almost to the second.....weird......hehehe
Kristian is by far my favorite artist, but if you guys like him, maybe there's a chance you'd take a liking to Fleet Foxes, a baroque harmonic pop band. Check 'em out.
The main reason he sounds better live is because the live recordings are mixed well. The mixes on his albums are terrible, which is exactly why I want to see him live.
@Chickenjuggle your statement is very true. but he recorded all the tracks off his two albums himself, and mixed them as well. so for a lone soldier...he did a pretty good job. and either way we've all fallen in love with his music :)
