  • the comparisons to him and dylan frustrate me. The reason he's compared to dylan isnt because they write songs that are so similar, in fact when you put them together their guitar playing styles aren't all that close. It's the way they write songs with such ease and sing with such unique and individual voices. They each have such a natural and personal sense to their songs. Sure you can hear an influence of dylan in TMOE's music, but he isnt biting dylans style in any way

  • Well it seems we have a debate going over Dylan and Matsson, Dylan is oviously the better song writer. Both deliver skillful music, and not to mention, we haven't had a musician as good as Tallest Man on Earth in a very long time.

  • this is the first piece from the kexp recordings that actually isn't as good as the album track..the banjo or whatever it is on the album track is heavily missed here!

  • I think about music as a huge kitchen where lots of different ingredients are stored. Sometimes a brillant chef picks a few of these ingredients, adds his own touch and brings a delightful meal to the table. Really no point in worrying so much about Dylan hints in his music etc... Besides that, Dylan's music has been influenced by others before him, and so on...people probably had the same discussions ahah

  • I will never get tired of Kristian..You can find a banjo version he recorded of this song as a demo back during the Shallow Grave era, it's pretty great.

  • what's the big deal if he sounds similar to bob dylan? bob dylan is a great and influential musician. no one is saying he's copying bob or stealing his music. relax, if anything it's a compliment to him. certain artists in a specific genre tend to sound similar. it's like when people say all country music sounds the same and country fans freak out because "every artist sounds different".

  • @KernoBurno I think this is a misconception of how we listen to music, tbh. Of course, there can be clear similarities between musicians within one and the same genre. That much is def. true, if it wasn't so we wouldn't have genres at all! But I think the phenomenon of "everything sounds the same" within one genre is not a universal truth or rule but rather a case of the listener being inexperienced in listening to that particular style. It's about habituation and listener education imho.

  • The main reason he sounds better live is because the live recordings are mixed well. The mixes on his albums are terrible, which is exactly why I want to see him live.

  • @swedishcau Check out Jack Johnson, he's also keeping a certain standard in his songs .. in my opinion.

    But i still think it's healthy that popular artists are being creative, and doing something unexpected and different from what they are used to, sometimes the outcome can be kinda bad though.
