  • Just got a new (2nd hand) car, which has a cassette player ( google it those younger than 30 :-) ) First one I played was Darklands really really loud. Brilliant !

"and we looked so good , and we lived our lives in black" - kind of summed it up. A mix of depression and euphoria....

  • @IggyandtheStardust SO AGREED. you're not alone.

  • The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Stone Roses, all I need.

  • timeless! as well as a true classic staple and a possible blue print for many to learn from who are making music in 2011.

  • Oh take me back to 1987...black clothes....crimped hair..acne.... Red stripe lager and my first girlfriend watching these guys at Newcastle...perfect.

  • @muttoncyborg The beginning of 80's was even more cool...

  • Indeed.

  • oh great job on missing the point entirely guys

  • @Brian666..you are healthy..

  • oh the memories, East Kilbride's finest

  • 6 people don't like the rain. FUCK EM!

  • @NowJessie 6 people just need to die in general... how anybody could possibly dislike this is beyond me :(

  • The band doesn't attempt to make it look like they're playing the instruments in this video. It's like they're mocking the whole process. I love this band.

  • Listening to this song makes me feel awesome!

  • Darklands = JOYA

  • Genialísimo! Uno de mis discos preferidos...

  • The second best NW band ever(I'm a Cure fan so it's given). Thanks to my brother for giving me his Darklands CD.

  • absolutely best f'in song in the world omg omg omg i love the mary chain! the choice of a lost generation!

  • I guess growing up in East Kilbride means they Reid brothers didn´t have much choice regarding whether they were happy or unhappy when it rains. Having grown up in Western Scotland I know it isn´t really an option :-)

  • Let the rain wash away the pain

Nevermind the voices in your brain,

Just look up and taste the rain,

Ride the waves... its ok to be insane!

  • @darthsaya where did this come from?

  • @markhosley From a couple friends in my head...Insomnia n Mary Jane!!! hahahaha

  • Oh Fuck!

  • This song is better than sexing a hot girl! So good

  • @STFCstoneroses

Why not do both at once?

  • Coming from the showman ship of Maynard and Tool, I can't help but laugh. Meh...this takes me back, and It's raining.

  • @Nutricidal

Maynard and Tool, great but ruined utterly by overproduction. Guess they gotta appeal to the plebs, like you...

  • This song got my attention back in 1987. Great stuff even now! Stands easy out with the guitar riff and the fast paced rhythm. Brilliant! Timeless, indeed...

  • i actually am happy when rains, especially when it pours.

  • timeless,really.

  • Excellent! My second ever CD was Barbed Wire Kisses.

  • i love this song and the music video. isn't it sad how the creativity, quality of music videos/songs/songwriting devolves as time goes on? shouldn't it be the other way around?

  • @bobismesothere It's not that it's devolving, it's that history remembers the good and forgets the crap. Trust me, there was a LOT of crap in yesteryear. The 80s, by far, had some of the worst offenders. If you look deep enough, you can still find quality songwriting.

  • 3 people arent happy when it rains

  • Yum ;)

  • shoegaze como debe hacerse..

  • Brothers and Sisters, I had a dream last night and Jesus Christ came down out of a golden cloud. He had a bottle of J Walker Black, a carton of Marlboro's, some good clean speed, and a fold of china white. He said; "My son, let's get fucked up and listen to the Chain." So I put on my vinyl copy of Darklands to begin, and slowly and surely we entered the gates of heaven. The last thing He told me, was this; "There will always be poor stupid people who feel threatened by greatness. Fuck em."

  • @TheBrian6666 Damn, gimme the number of your acid dealer.

  • @hihihippl Not acid, but X, meth, Oxy, and Wild Turkey 101, although most anything will do. The only things I would discourrage are; ANY FORM OF RELIGION, an accidental OD on shrooms which is too fucking easy to do, and people/assholes/people/assholes/ etc. And probably 90+% of people are complete fucking assholes,

A final thought; think about the best; who in their lifetime never impressed: Christ, Van Gogh, Vlad the Impaler. Thanks for the note,......B

  • @TheBrian6666 You are unwell, sir.

  • @TheBrian6666 No one has ever overdosed on mushrooms.

  • Pure poetry man! God bless your dream...

  • @TheBrian6666 the true jesus

  • @TheBrian6666 dude ... fuckin lol

  • @TheBrian6666 To always was a pisshead ;-)

We heard he has been reborn and now just concentrates on Packing Bongs :-)

  • I love them. make me feel comfortable... In Japan, The band which is influenced from JAMC exists:) I also like it. Super Car

  • this is not a 2008 song!!!!!!!! anyway, i love it.

  • Where's that time machine??

  • I like how the monitors occasionally show clips from the Just Like Honey video.

  • Man, I saw these guys on the second Lolapalooza tour...they belted out song after song, without mercy. One song ended, the next kicked in.They were drunk as hell,as they always were, but they did not miss a note...and Jim did not say word one to us.It was one of the defining points of my life, seeing them live.

  • This is my new favourite song

  • Wowww good audio! Thanks!!!

  • PARA MI !!!!! A BAILARRRRR

  • I was looking for "I can't find time for times", same band, then I stumbled on to this.. Nice song.

  • these guys couldn't play when they started out. Sitting in the pantheon now aren't they :)

  • one of my favourite music videos ever!!!!!

  • Aural orgasm.

  • Class..

  • Several years ago I read somewhere that they were trying to schedule The Jesus and Mary Chain at 'Dollywood' (Dolly Parton Country theme park) because they thought it was a Christian band. Now THAT would have been funny.

Regardless, this is a pop classic in my opinion.

  • @centralohioguy

Actually they appeared on a Dolly Parton TV show in 1987. Amazingly, seems Dolly loved the Darklands LP, she'd really champion it around. And while the Mary Chain aren't a Christian band at all, they aren't exactly a satanist band either, are they? William has repeatedly stated he believes in God (in many interviews) and at the end of the day, the band''s name is considered offensive only by people who choose to be offended by it.

  • @MickHaines

oh wow...now I would love love love to see that!

  • @MickHaines i dunt see how it could be even rmotley offenvie to anbody lol. they took the name from a frre crucifix they found in a ceral box

  • i lived my life in black

  • 227-1. says everything

  • nobody liked them back in the 80s

  • @bubbah671 I did! :P

  • @bubbah671 I Did!!

  • I wish I grew up in the 80s :,< new wave and post punk galoreeee

  • I remember this party at night and at the backyard was a handmade halfpipe, people skating to this song and I love when Jim belts out "Plug into her electric cool, where things bend and break and shake to the rule"...Scotland rocks!

  • This is like chicken noodle soup for the soul when you've been dumped. It makes you cry, but it's a good cry. I'm happy this song is here for me when I need it.

  • @kelsmart sometimes the person who leaves you is hurting too.

  • *sigh*...I love this!

  • Ages since I heard the Reid brothers. Breath of fresh air. One of my favs songs. Thanks for posting this.

  • Now, this is an amazing song.!!! I only recently got into Jesus and Mary Chain, what a fricken great band!

  • Superb band jmc,I miss them, But The Sub Club, Glasgow thats a memory!!!

  • JAMC RULES! Any doubt?

  • I truly am happy when it rains, and this just makes it better.

  • Still influencing bands today.....but the clearest influnce is Shirley Mansons Im only happy when it rains....fellow scotts......psychgrunge rules....are you sure what shoes you have on....I can tell ya

  • @noveltyme How exactly does this share ANY resemblance at all to the Garbage song, or for that matter...grunge? Psychgrunge? What?

Have you ever heard a single song by ANY grunge band that sounds like it can be considered similar enough to be classified in the same genre? If anything they're much closer related to post-punk revivalist contemporaries like Bloc Party

  • @negatyve No way.....JMC....we made up pycho grunge when I was like like 19......almost 20 yrs ago when a radiator sounded like music with a squealing cat. I love JMC and such.....it was more a comic book reference than anything....and I was drunk as hell.......the only tie in with Garbage was origin. And as for brothers fighting....fuck Oasis...JMC was the first.....you make good points.

  • Evenbetter than the bunnymen

  • ROCK ON BABY JEEEEEEEZZZZZUSSSSSSSSS ;D

  • This is the song that makes me want to buy an album of them. A song to cherish. Well that was romantic and "lite" enough. Still is...

  • @truediabolique69 Bleeping out your profanity doesn't change the fact that your comment is fucking absurd!

  • @jakelacaze is that so?? i'll get back to you when i give a damn about your response......dont stay up waiting eithere...youre in for a loooooooooooong wait moron.

  • @truediabolique69 Don't you mean "d*mn"?

  • Only you know girl....

  • SEAR MY SOUL.

  • One of the few bands I actually wonder how they came up with it.

  • Their videos are always actual ART I love it

  • @WHOBYFIRE333 lol

  • Such a beautiful song. Nothing can compare to me

  • este video é minha vida eu amo.... demais está musica.......

  • eu gosto muito desse video ,,,lembro de bons momentos da minha vida,,,

luis de curitiba pr . laudo luis romanini

  • He's got that Ian Mccolluch head goin on....

  • jesus and mary chain and the stone roses kick ass

  • Look at me enjoying something... feells like pain to my brain

  • Out of all the great J&MC tunes, I'd have to pick this one as my favorite.

  • Who's the drummer in this video? It doesn't look like Bobby. Anyways, he left before they did Darklands.

  • @cholocharile John Moore, who later formed Black Box Recorder with Luke Haines (The Auteurs)

  • @MickHaines Thanks, I'd check them out but I'm listening to a really awesome Billie Holiday song right now so later.

  • Go back to your fucking BIBBLE BELT trailer you fucking INBRED DICKWAD!!!... This isn't "hillbillie music"!!!...Just 'cause it had "jesus" in the name it doesn't mean is "christian"!!!... You got LOST here on your way to "bibble belt soundtracks"!!! Lol!!!

  • @petermurphreak right on!!!!! They did get lost on their way to fuckin church!! Somehow sidetracked....Fuckin idiot!! You made me laugh!! Thanks

  • A fantstic 80's band, like to think this is how the VU would have sounded in the 70's if Lou had stayed

  • hey i like that

  • freaking awesome quality and sound...finally some record company puts something good that's worth my time...

  • @johnnywasted and it's twenty-four years old!

  • My God!!!... Fucking You Tube REALLY delivered the GOODS for me today!!!... Another INCREDIBLE song by JAMC!!!... I don't wanna get too fucking HAPPY though... Knowing You Tube I really PRAY they won't take this GEM off the air within the next five fucking minutes!!!....

  • Yeah a great song by a great band.... BUT your fears are not going to be true, this is put up by their record company, thus it is allowed to be up.

  • So hot!

  • It has been great to find this video with this song! I was addicted to JAMCH in the late 80's when i was young(er)!! Now they keep sounding great to me!

  • Loved this in the 80s - still as great now - reminds me of summer and carefree days and The lost Boys etc etc
