Poor kid. It took a lot of guts to walk in there and kill all those students. The world lost a good person who was willing to stand up for what he believed in. At least he took out a few college whores in the process.

obviously not allowing citizens the right to firearms would be both unconstitutional and impractical for preventing these kinds of catastrophies. but the distribution of guns should be restricted, and certainly the shooter, who was known to be on medication for his erratic behaviour, should not be allowed to purchase a weapon.

As you can see from the list below, school shootings happen so often that it should no longer be regarded as news anymore than the sun rising every day. Perhaps if the media (and American people) stopped taking such a morbid interest in them, these copycat crimes would lessen.

is actually funny back in the 1960s with all the drugs and good music people did not go around killing people by the dozens maybe Ron Paul was right after all the war on drugs was bullshit!.
I've been on anti-depressants for almost a decade now. However, going out for a walk and eating real food all does contribute to shaping you into a better person, and no longer a depressed looney.
The ACLU does not allow a persons background check to show mental illness because it is against the patient bill of rights. Blame them, even the NRA wanted mental illness to be a contributing factor in a background checks for gun ownership.
Todays school's, Colleges, and Universities have become potentially dangerous places to send your children.
The reason is precisely because school faculties use social engineering practices while students enact jealousy, deception, and invalidation strategies to challenge and effect the core values of students.
OMG why do these issues always gravitate towards gun control.
Its like, the sources you look to for news, always secretly hint their opinnions on gun control, and the trick rubs off on enough people to get a following. The reason he killed them, wasnt because of weak gun control enforcement, it is simply because something in his mind went wrong. Im sure he wouldve used a knife if he couldnt get a hold of a gun.
The reality is establishments that say "No Guns on Premisis" (like colleges and schools etc... ) are a gaurantee to sicko's like this guy that people won't and can't defend themselves. If the 2nd ammendment was given total freedom, perhaps 10 to 20 people would have had legal right to carry a gun and shot the bastard dead before he had a chance to fart let alone shoot that many people. Gun control DOES not work. It simply prohibits law abiding citizens the right to defend themselves.
"The reality is establishments that say "No Guns on Premisis" (like colleges and schools etc... ) are a gaurantee to sicko's like this guy that people won't and can't defend themselves."
are u kidding me!?!?
u think if it said "guns allowed" that he still wouldnt kill people!?!?
do u really think he was in his right frame of mind to even think about that!?!/
If this guy went off in my neighborhood he wouldn't have got the 3rd shot off and my wife would have shot him with anyone of my guns. If she didn't have guns and know how to use them he would be free to roam and kill all in his path until the police got there 15 mins. later
It wouldn't matter, if all law abiding citizens were allowed their total 2nd ammendment rights and were legally armed rather than illegally dis-armed .. like I said ... he would have been a dead sicko. The sign resonates with law-abiding citizens who do not bring guns in. They were not armed and able to protect themselves.
fuck you man. you should look at the black communities and take a look at Africa, only a heartless bastard could make a racist remark like that about all white people in a tragedy like this. you're a disgrace to good black people.
1689 English Bill of Rights = Right to bear arms. Now that right has gone because a man shot up a school. Dont let that happen in America. Whats next? Banning cars because of drink drivers...
Im not American but i know that guns in the US should NOT be banned. They are there for protection from the government. Its totally ridiculous to ban arms from 300 million people because of a small minority (and usually its criminals shooting criminals over drugs and such). Look at Switzerland, more guns than people and its got one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Not to mention the majority of shootings there are people commiting suicide. Guns FTW.
fuck me fuck me I think im going crazy just seeing this too often. Help! somebody give me a medication i think will kill somebody now because i miss my pill lol
what i am trying to say is they say that this crazy ass dude was seen acting all crazy before he committed this crime so if i was that person i would have at least assume he was gonna hurt somebody not hey he was gonna be okay. If you see somebody acting like that you DO NOT THINK HE WILL BE OKAY DO YOU you will think somebody has a problem and will hurt someone
shit can somebody explain to me why the people that saw him acting all crazy before this happen did see it coming i mean what is the first thing in your mind when somebody acts like that. i dont think you gonna say yeah this guy is going to be alright
I bet you next year boom somebody have done it again man im telling you guys this is like a trend in north america. Physco people should be fucking watch closely. I dont understand why everone assume he was okay when they said he was not taking his medicine i mean the first thing i would think is somebody is going to hurt somebody if they did not take there medicine.
its becoming a trend in north america shooting there and there and there. everyone should arm themselves this crazy physco did not prove anything so i dont see the point of all this killings other than coward acts of human physcos
send white people back to Russia, lol.White People blame virginia tech on all asian.I blame this shooting on all white people. This guy need to burn in hell.Quit feeling sorry for him just cause he's white dumb white people.
Poor guy my ass I want to know why is is that a CERTAIN group of people go to schools and do this. This could have been you or me and I'm no t going for the bullshit excuse he didn't take his meds. He had enough sense to plan what he was going to do. I'm sick of seeing this happening.
I was so saddened by this horrific event. Matt Lauer in his interview of the two male students who witnessed the shooting, brought up an excellent point. THE FACT THAT MOST CLASSROOMS ONLY HAVE ONE ENTRY AND EXIT MAKING IT VERY EASY FOR A GUNMAN TO CONTROL THE ROOM AND DO ALOT DAMAGE IN VERY LITTLE TIME. they should pass legislature which requires an exit door every maybe 10 feet for example with a minimum of maybe four exits per classroom.
"The man who opened fire on students in a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University was described by police on Friday as a 27-year-old former sociology student there who had been highly regarded, but they said he began to act erratic in recent weeks after he stopped taking medication."
It's got nothing to do with gun rights or any politics. It's got to do with psychology and the false belief that doing something like this will make you seem powerful. Quite the opposite. It's the same as terrorism really. Just another pussy that took out their inability to be normal on everyone else. Congratulations, you made it on the news. Come to think of it, I didn't even catch the guys name this time. Who fukin' cares really. My condolences to those that lost someone, though.
Terrorism is used as a method to accocmplish a political goal or gain political power. I dont think it's right to compare it to these types of random acts of violence.
"its not the guns fault there was a deranged madman at the controls",i wish guns were legal in this country the news would be so much more interesting, which state is the next massacre going to in its such a guessing game i cant wait, hooray for guns and america,if you shoot a friend would you getaway with it if you classed it as "friendly fire".
I agree. It is amazing to see how many people attack gun rights when these things happen. In areas of conceled carry there is actually less gun crime. And in places with the most strict gun laws crime is rampant. I'm currious to see if psychotropic drugs are involved. Which would not be debated because of course every 4th commercial on average is from the pharma industry! Hmmmmm.
Yes true, however just because someone lives in a highly populated area or a poor area dosn't mean they are not responsible. Again you don't give a gun to anyone. If someone has shown they are not responsible (i.e. convicted felon...) they will loose their 2nd ammendment right. If someone is a responsible citizen and lives in a high crime area they should be armed if they choose to be.
Ancwering to storminNormin .......and there's another topics that almost no one has mentioned is the role played by the powerful lobbies involved. They can really chanbe the perseption of what a right is. Money can change many things except the pain of the parents RIP
Agreed. I just learned that in fact the gunman was on psychotropic medication & stopped using them about two weeks prior to the shooting. I hope that the over medication of people here will be discussed more. I know that in Europe you don't have the large push for taking pills to temporarily relieve our ailments. I do pray for those effected.
No we actually have a free medic care system which is more than acceptable, though errors can happen (see Sicko). Advertisment on medicine are rare 'cause there's not an open market for normal people, usually the customers are doctors, hospitals and other specialized instituitions. The basic idea is that in some cases the interests of a company don't serve the interest of the community. In matter such as health, pensions and gun there must be somehow a filter.
Hi StorminNormin a socialistic system is implemented in a ideological totalitarian state where free market issues are ignored. Historical examples are nazism in Germany, Fascism in Italy and Comunism in Russia. When you talk about social system is related to instituition that serve public interest such as Welfare, Communication and Transportation. It's a European believe that at least in terms of Healthcare System and in some respects Pensions, the free market enviroment is filtered by the
government or some sort "neutral entities". So you can have a right or left wing government implementing social not socialistic policies. People in Europe and Japan don't complain about this little loss of liberty, but if they complain is about the quality of the service. Taxes pay these instituition and they are far more cheap than the private system. Anyway we too have health insurance if we want private healthcare. Sorry for the off topic guys
im guessing this was most likely caused by pharmaceutical drugs, like columbine, or brainwashing. although it could just possibly be a psychotic man, but from what they said on one article i read, he was a really good student and liked by his teachers. so we'll see once they look into him some more.
This is graduate school, bullying? Really... I never saw that when I was in a University. maybe NIU is different though. I wonder if he was on antidepressants though. No doubt guns will be the main issue brought up. However all recent school shootings have involved psychotropic drugs, which I think should be more talked about.
Keep peeing all over the United States Constitution, and this will continue to happen. In fact it will get much worse, it will get so bad in fact, that it will make this most recent mass shooting look like a trip to Disneyland.
We as a People allow these horrible mass killings to happen. We ALLOW this becuase as a People we have decided to give the POWER of self protection to the State. This is why these people are DEAD. There are crazy people in the world that will do horrible things, period. The good news is that there are far more good people, the bad news is if you give their right to self protection to the killer, than this will continue to happen. So sad.
Do your research. In areas of concealed carry you actually have less violent crime. Google it for yourself. Yes the prospect of most people being armed can be scarry. But you would not just give guns to everyone. If someone abuses their right they would loose that right.
Sure you can "google" it, but where did you get your sources from?? the NRA? (j.k.) Gun ownership&gun control is a complex issue no doubt. I was born and raised in Chicago (in the city), where gun violence is rampant (mostly because of gang crime and drugs). Gun control is necessary in this case. However, this might not be the solution for those living in less crime ridden areas. With this in mind, there has to be more than one solution. What might work in one area may not work in another.
I live in Chicago. Chicago has one of the most strict gun control laws. You are missing my point. Believe it or not there are people who are responsible enough to arm themselves. Yes even in Chicago. Again I'm not saying arm everyone. Example my father was held up at gunpoint at one of his appartments in the City, where police don't generally service. He pulled out his gun and got out of the situation unharmed. (By the way I don't like the NRA & would never join it.)
Look, I no gun control is not the be all end all solution, (I'm not naive) but in Chicago it needs to exist. There are already way to many guns on the streets of chicago (legal & illegal) Besides, how do you mandate who is "cabable or responsible" enough to arm themselves? (gun shop owners out to make a profit??) I don't know, this is a complicated issue which unfortunetly will possibly never have an solution. -- Thank god your father is wasn't hurt.
wtf is wrong with the students on campus these days. everytime u turn around there another shootin' ain't this like the 5th campus rampage within 4 yrs or so???
maybe you should be thanking the meds. the shooter stopped taking his meds. thats why he went cray. he should have been ON them. i have a brother that would die if it wasnt for his mental meds.
I agree with you but the gun control needs to be talked about I mean the last major shootings like this were done with legal guns, in an University, a Mall, a Church, and now again another University, I don't know if this last one was a legal gun or not but come one more shooting are being done with legal guns than Illegal ones.
Exactly. Most of these shootings happen in "gun free zones" because shooters know no one there will be able to stop them. Tougher gun laws only make it harder for law abiding citizens to get guns. Criminals or "bad guys" arent affected by gun laws because they will just get them illegally.
Actually gun laws do work, look at any stats and you will see every modern country will have far less shooting then America per capita, also when a gunman is willing to commit such a horrible event and kill themselves as well, they do not think or care about gun free zones.
32 students and staff were shot by a student at Virginia Tech University. It is also the fourth shooting at a US education establishment within a week.
Last Friday, a woman shot dead two fellow students before killing herself at Louisiana Technical College in Baton Rouge. In Memphis, Tennessee, a 17-year-old is accused of shooting and critically wounding a student on Monday, and a 15-year-old was shot at a junior high school in California on Tuesday.
Let me guess...it was a "gun free zone". ALL of these mass killings by a mad man over the last decade have happened in a "gun free zone" Now why do you suppose that is?
i dont know about the rest of you but i have had enough! i mean come on this is getting old quick. i live near and go to school at a local college and have friends at niu and all this talk just makes the shooter more known. he's getting what he wanted, its going to be interesting to see if he too has a message come across in the following days. peace and love to all those affected by this tradegy
"Wonder what kind of meds he was prescribed? Ritalin, maybe? Funny how all these shooters have a fully stocked medicine cabinet--maybe someone should look into that."
Couldn't agree more - people on these drugs for depression and add need to be watched
grw up life is not a videogame. Having a gun means have the power to kill someoneelse. Are you sure that one day you don't become a killer like that guy? (His life was perfectly normal)
what the FUCK is going on campuses across the US? i mean are the kids there trying to turn this into some kind of trend, like streaking around campus?
the problem is that in the US school shooting is becoming far too common, in other countries just occasional. I think at this point something has to be done.
Hey, guy who thought it was a good idea to shoot and kill 6 innocent students...

As you can see from the list below, school shootings happen so often that it should no longer be regarded as news anymore than the sun rising every day. Perhaps if the media (and American people) stopped taking such a morbid interest in them, these copycat crimes would lessen.

It wouldn't matter, if all law abiding citizens were allowed their total 2nd ammendment rights and were legally armed rather than illegally dis-armed .. like I said ... he would have been a dead sicko. Guns FTW.

It's got nothing to do with gun rights or any politics. It's got to do with psychology and the false belief that doing something like this will make you seem powerful. Quite the opposite. Hmmmmm.
StorminNormin1977 4 years ago
guys, u cant compare those stats about the gun laws.
you cannot compare new york for eg. to a small state.
also, in places with higher poverty there tends to be more crime too.
ilovehollycombs 4 years ago
Yes true, however just because someone lives in a highly populated area or a poor area dosn't mean they are not responsible. Again you don't give a gun to anyone. If someone has shown they are not responsible (i.e. convicted felon...) they will loose their 2nd ammendment right. If someone is a responsible citizen and lives in a high crime area they should be armed if they choose to be.

Agreed. I just learned that in fact the gunman was on psychotropic medication & stopped using them about two weeks prior to the shooting. I hope that the over medication of people here will be discussed more. I know that in Europe you don't have the large push for taking pills to temporarily relieve our ailments. I do pray for those effected.
StorminNormin1977 4 years ago
Ancwering to storminNormin
No we actually have a free medic care system which is more than acceptable, though errors can happen (see Sicko). Advertisment on medicine are rare 'cause there's not an open market for normal people, usually the customers are doctors, hospitals and other specialized instituitions. The basic idea is that in some cases the interests of a company don't serve the interest of the community. In matter such as health, pensions and gun there must be somehow a filter.
mochiam 4 years ago
Well nothing is free however I understand what you mean. It is a socialistic health care system.
StorminNormin1977 4 years ago
social not socialistic very different
mochiam 4 years ago
please explain the difference.
StorminNormin1977 4 years ago
Hi StorminNormin a socialistic system is implemented in a ideological totalitarian state where free market issues are ignored. Historical examples are nazism in Germany, Fascism in Italy and Comunism in Russia. When you talk about social system is related to instituition that serve public interest such as Welfare, Communication and Transportation. It's a European believe that at least in terms of Healthcare System and in some respects Pensions, the free market enviroment is filtered by the
mochiam 4 years ago
government or some sort "neutral entities".

This is graduate school, bullying? Really... I never saw that when I was in a University. maybe NIU is different though. I wonder if he was on antidepressants though. ilovehollycombs 4 years ago
Do your research. In areas of concealed carry you actually have less violent crime. Google it for yourself. Yes the prospect of most people being armed can be scarry. But you would not just give guns to everyone. If someone abuses their right they would loose that right.
StorminNormin1977 4 years ago
Sure you can "google" it, but where did you get your sources from?? the NRA? (j.k.) Gun ownership&gun control is a complex issue no doubt. I was born and raised in Chicago (in the city), where gun violence is rampant (mostly because of gang crime and drugs). Gun control is necessary in this case. However, this might not be the solution for those living in less crime ridden areas. With this in mind, there has to be more than one solution. What might work in one area may not work in another.
snuggie007 4 years ago
I live in Chicago. Chicago has one of the most strict gun control laws. You are missing my point. Believe it or not there are people who are responsible enough to arm themselves. Yes even in Chicago. Again I'm not saying arm everyone. Example my father was held up at gunpoint at one of his appartments in the City, where police don't generally service. He pulled out his gun and got out of the situation unharmed. (By the way I don't like the NRA & would never join it.)
StorminNormin1977 4 years ago
Look, I no gun control is not the be all end all solution, (I'm not naive) but in Chicago it needs to exist. There are already way to many guns on the streets of chicago (legal & illegal) Besides, how do you mandate who is "cabable or responsible" enough to arm themselves? (gun shop owners out to make a profit??) I don't know, this is a complicated issue which unfortunetly will possibly never have an solution. -- Thank god your father is wasn't hurt.
snuggie007 4 years ago
I agree there is no easy way to do it. As you say yourself there is no one size fits all solution.

fordcoolcarr 4 years ago
Exactly. Most of these shootings happen in "gun free zones" because shooters know no one there will be able to stop them. Tougher gun laws only make it harder for law abiding citizens to get guns. Criminals or "bad guys" arent affected by gun laws because they will just get them illegally.
Roseywellian 4 years ago
