I have this computer. I have upgraded to 4gigs of ram, because it was cheap and worth it... I'm upgrading to the dual-core version of this same processor, because it works with it. The screen turns off at certain angles, and you have to adjust it again and again. The battery life is extremely poor, but if you just use it as a desktop, well, it's just okay. When i got this it has 98.7 gigabytes for the hard drive, which is not what it advertises. Buy something else.

only vista 64 bit can handle 4 gigs of ram it will damage your laptop if you do it. single core can barely handle vista, MCE is like xp only made smoother, average battery life 1 hour, 120 hdd which is split into 2 partitions as standard, they sold so much before their a budget crappy notebook, extreamly poor ventilation,
I even set all the acer empowering technology services to manual instead of automatic and just use vistas power options inside the control panel\mobile pc. It still wont play games. This laptop is fine if you want to watch movies, surf the net,and do word processing. Photo editing is all right, but if you want to play games even old ones I wouldn't get this laptop.
Another thing that pisses me off is. You can only upgrade to 4Gbs of ram if you upgrade to a 64bit operating system. That single core AMD Turion 64 will not run a 64 bit processor you need a dual core processor to run the Vista x64 so that guy is full of it. I tried i have 4Gb of ram installed by my 32 bit operating system only lets me use 2.68 of it because theres not enough address space for all the ram. the graphics cards 128 on board ram takes up address space
I got it it runs vista home premium fine but won't play games I think its because of the realtek hd audio. Even old games are choppy and freeze every ten seconds then resume normal speeds by then your dead it blows. ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 graphics card sucks too. When you update the driver on ati's website it s in the integrated/motherboard section Most new games require pixels shader 3.0 this only has 2.0

One of the worst laptop ever i brought this laptop 1 year ago and i had to sent it in more that 10 times i think this laptop has visit the acer repiar company more than my house I take very good care of it andit still fucks up.

you fucking cunts.. i purchased this laptop and in 3 months it slowed down orbi cam stopped working and USB ports failure.. I always regret for purchasing acer.. "I WOULD NOT SUGGEST ANY ONE TO BUY ACER" if you are buying acer think twice or i will say 100 times... coz it sucks..

Anyone know where i can get a replacement Keyboard and motherboard for the Acer 5100? The rest of the laptop is fine, but the people repairing it (Not the Acer people) say that i could buy a used laptop, and they could take out the KB and MB from the used one and place them in mine.

only vista 64 bit can handle 4 gigs of ram it will damage your laptop if you do it. single core can barely handle vista, MCE is like xp only made smoother, average battery life 1 hour, 120 hdd which is split into 2 partitions as standard, they sold so much before their a budget crappy notebook, extreamly poor ventilation,

I even set all the acer empowering technology services to manual instead of automatic and just use vistas power options inside the control panel\mobile pc. It still wont play games. This laptop is fine if you want to watch movies, surf the net,and do word processing. Photo editing is all right, but if you want to play games even old ones I wouldn't get this laptop.

Another thing that pisses me off is. You can only upgrade to 4Gbs of ram if you upgrade to a 64bit operating system. That single core AMD Turion 64 will not run a 64 bit processor you need a dual core processor to run the Vista x64 so that guy is full of it. I tried i have 4Gb of ram installed by my 32 bit operating system only lets me use 2.68 of it because theres not enough address space for all the ram. the graphics cards 128 on board ram takes up address space

I got it it runs vista home premium fine but won't play games I think its because of the realtek hd audio. Even old games are choppy and freeze every ten seconds then resume normal speeds by then your dead it blows. ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 graphics card sucks too. When you update the driver on ati's website it s in the integrated/motherboard section Most new games require pixels shader 3.0 this only has 2.0

hey man , u need atleast 1.5 or 2gb to run vista, coz vista itself consume abt 512 mb , thn abt 128 mb for graphics, acer empowin technology also consumes a good amt of ram , so use atleat 2 gb
