No... a longbow deals a d8 of damage, unless it's one sized for a Small creature. Short bows deal a d6!

You guys are great. But wasn't that technically "random?" Unles of course you did multiple takes of the die rolling and specifically wanted it to be a six. That wouldn't be random nor would it be arbitrary. Would it?

Technically, a die roll is not random but "chaotic." Factors such as angle, speed, momentum, inertia (aka mass), elasticity of collision, etc., all play a role in determining the resting position of the die. This is order, of a complicated variety, but it is so much more intricate than the human mind can keep track of that it appears random. That which appears random but is actually the result of complex order is by definition "chaotic." :D
