Saw Carmel in Porto back in 88 and was my soundtrack for a few month's romance that winter - seeing them live was mesmerizing, NO OTHER band had such a rich and deep range, and gave us so much interpretation of their songs - original and sophisticated, Carmel McCourt will always be fondly remembered - its interesting though, I thought duffy's song was actually a Carmel cover first time I heard it?

I've seen Carmel live in the middle of the eightees in Bochum/Germany.....and it was fantastic! I loved her! When I heared first

This isn't from any film, it's the video for the song, the clips with Emma Thompson and Alfred Molina werte shot for the video (another way you can tell it ain't from a film is by the way that in all their shots only they appear, no other characters at all, ie: a friend, the grocer, the milkman etc, they were in a film on their own for 90 mins?). Though nowadays they wouldn't do a music vid this long, when this came out they were barely known and probably leaped at the chance to do it.

Thank you so much for posting this. I've been searching for it on here for ages now. One of Carmel's finest moments. I used to DJ at around the time this was released and I had two 12" copies of it. By running one copy slightly out of sync with the other, the section of the song from 2mins in sounded like angels singing. But of course she didn't need any help, she sounds just gorgeous all by herself.

I can't believe I'm seeing this. I lived at 357 John Nash Crescent Hulme Manchester and received all Carmels Fanmail for months on end. What a fantastic voice. Where are you now Carmel? Such a pleasure to hear a real talent. Manchester was a wonderful place in those years. Hulme was such a shithole. How does something so wonderful come out of something so shite.
