What ever happened to great southern rock? Jeez, I miss the '70s and McDuffie high school. I joined the Air Force and was shocked to find that the Okinawans loved Southern Rock.
My family was transferred from Albuquerque in 1972 to Bernardsville NJ in 1972, for some reason I picked up the Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels and The Outlaws. There first record in 74 has been with me ever since.
@werebatt1 Never got to see he Outlaws, saw Molly Hatchet in 84 in Virginia Beach, VA which is odd because I am from Florida.... But DJ( Danny Joe) Brown lead singer for Molly Hatchet remembered the clubs back in the day ans=d we did talk. I dont know him but I know people who he knew etc....
Is there anyone here old enough to remember when it was Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker Band and the Outlaws on tour all in one concert ???????? and the Outlaws was the opening act? I guess I am an old fart.... LOL
@ohioquakerman OH YEAH!! Saw them all here in St. Louis! Charlie Daniels came out and played fiddle with the MTB during 24 Hours at a Time...KICKASS SHOW!
Timothy B. Schmit to this day seems to not have aged. This is the best of the best. God bless southern rock and all of you who dig it. From an old fart.
@dcaw87,you are in the right generation,it is up to you guys to keep the good Americana going,to live it has to be popular,to be popular it has to be Played and Heard,Youngins,Y'all Play it LOUD AND PROUD!
I remember this song! This was when the music was real and not the crap that is put out today. The Outlaws were one of my favorites back in the day, great cruising and drinking music!
I saw the Ouylaws at the frist concert I ever went to. It was the first time they had ever came to Indianapolis, and they were warming up for the Doobie
Brothers( on their Black Water tour), and even though I liked the Doobie Brothers. I went to see the Outlaws more than I did the doobies. I absoluteluy loved "Green Grass and High Tides." I was 16 years old and had a fantastic time!
Didn't see these guys in 1976.Why you ask?Picture in your mind,a scene out of a Cheech and Chong movie. Before an Outlaws concert in the Tower Theater parking lot,I was about to drink a beer when my friend said... "wait, take a few of these" As I washed down the 3 pills with a mouthful of beer my friend screams out... "NO NO NO dont eat all of those".... AHHHH MAN.... now what.Yup yours truly ingested 3 Rorer 714's.Couldn't tell you if it was a good show or not : )
The Outlaws...Right in the same class as Lynyryd Skynyrd, Marschall Tucker Band, and Pure Praire League...I'm just glad I experienced them ALL during my teenage to teen years.
@dorkfish524 I love 70's and 80s music more then anything and i'm only 13. but i like modern music too. look up rock sugar reimaginator. they mix 2 or 3 songs from the 80s. their newest song that came out is any highway you want, and Sinse your barracuda has been an immigrant. best songs ever.
Hughie said they were sitting around before a gig back stage as an opening act when the bass player spotted a hot girl walking pass and said " There Goes Another Love Song" .. and the band literally wrote the entire song in minutes. That is all it takes to go from endless honky tonk two bit gigs to arena headliners. -- 5 words and 3 chords.
i love driving through the worst parts of town BLARING The Outlaws and The Marshall Tucker Band. the homeboys dont give me good looks too often hahaha
when i was 16, my brother was 19 and he would take me with him where ever he went. his friends became ''my'' friends and they all listened to the Outlaws. my brother loved this band. and now, i'm 49 and my buddy is not here anymore, he died in 2003. but, whenever i hear this song, i think of him and i say'' this song is for u buddy''. RIP, my brother.
I remember most all these Southern Rock songs from my father's "Columbia House 8-Track Club"! I remember as a kid getting excited when a new one came in the mailbox outside - wow, I miss those days.
The Charlie Daniels Band started it for me. The God Father of Southern Rock. and Then I started buying tapes of southern Rockers and loved them all. Molly Hatchet, The Outlaws, Elvin Bishop, Marshall Tucker Band, I already knew Skynyrd, But Charlie is still my fav.
What great southern rock! These guy are among the best, with lynyrd skynyrd, the Allman Brothers, 38 special, etc! What great music these bands left us with! Peace, BobbyK
For anyone that thinks that the Southern Rock bands were a bunch of redneck racist, you are flat out wrong. Those bands were about having a good time and just loving life no matter where you came from.
Hughie is definitely in my top three favorite southern rock guitarists. those country licks that he plays during the second solo aren't easy to pull off.
@stratOcasta17 Hughie's the best. The only person in the same category in his league is Steve Gaines. Yes, Ed King, Brent Mason, Albert Lee, Johnny Hiland, Danny Gaton, Doug Seven, and countless others are also good but Hughie was also a composer and wrote some of the best songs ever while he was with The Outlaws. He will always be remembered as one of the greats in my book. His guitar style is definitely extraordinary and his technique is something I would love to master one day.

I am 16 years old and I went and saw these guys last summer with Charlie Daniels and Marshall Tucker. It's still one of the best concerts I've been to.
Our society needs more Southern Rock to bring upon everyone a common sence of pease and tranquility. Yeah, I'm a Redneck from the 70's and still living on in my ways...Bring it back....our Nation WILL be better for having done so.
@SuperLiftRick I agree. Our country was founded on the principle of working hard, working some more and then relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor. If that means drinking a few too many beers and saying something that may not be politically correct, so be it. Go Ghost Riders on the Storm [];-)
@SuperLiftRick You are too right man. I mean I'm not American, I'm Canadian, but it doesn't matter what nationality you are, nothing beats being out in the country in front of a fire drinking beer and listening to Skynyrd and Outlaws.
I'm not even from an English speaking country and I love The Outlaws. I'd say that The Outlaws are one of the best things that America has ever produced.
@18andLifeSR Dude, given the sheer size of Canada, and the coolness of Canucks, I'll bet more Canadians are out drinking beer by a campfire and digging on some classic rock at any given time than down here in the states.
@tdelamont haha thanks man and ya I wasn't gonna say it but probably. I love doin that it's my favourite thing to do out of anything. Plus we have awsome beer. lol It seems as though the further south in the states you go the more they are like us in the north though.
@bukk3t Yes, I am happy to say I AM female. And thank you. You might not find me, but you'll find what you're looking for if you search hard enough for it...and that includes not only females. I promise. Think of me when you do find it.
A common thread I've been seeing is that The Outlaws were a great concert group...and routinely kicked tails out of the headliner bands. They really had superb guitarists.
@jdrock14 Kiel opera house St. Louis - sold out jam packed. I also saw the CDB there the night Skynyrds plane crashed. Charlie came out and told the crowd before they all came out to play - was a starnge feeling - will never forget.

@SuperLiftRick I agree. Our country was founded on the principle of working hard, working some more and then relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor. If that means drinking a few too many beers and saying something that may not be politically correct, so be it. Go Ghost Riders on the Storm [];-)

@SuperLiftRick Hey man, totally agree. I've loved this song all my life, and I also love tupac. and the stones.

@SuperLiftRick I would agree with you but you spelled sense wrong and that altered my decision.

@18andLifeSR Dude, given the sheer size of Canada, and the coolness of Canucks, I'll bet more Canadians are out drinking beer by a campfire and digging on some classic rock at any given time than down here in the states.
tdelamont 5 months ago
@tdelamont haha thanks man and ya I wasn't gonna say it but probably. I love doin that it's my favourite thing to do out of anything. Plus we have awsome beer. lol It seems as though the further south in the states you go the more they are like us in the north though.

I once went out with someone who hated this song and all Southern rock bands. What a total bore! Dumped that person immediately!
If this doesn't grab your soul, you don't have one.

bukk3t 11 months ago
@bukk3t Yes, I am happy to say I AM female. And thank you. You might not find me, but you'll find what you're looking for if you search hard enough for it...and that includes not only females. I promise. Think of me when you do find it.

@ladymesc1 ... I might suggest that it is those who have no tolerance for diversity of opinion are the ones who have no soul
09Libertarian 11 months ago
@09Libertarian I might suggest you didn't know my ex. The music was only a symptom of THAT person's extreme intolerance. Have a nice day.

This was one of the first concert I ever saw...Many years age...think I was 15...loved them ever since!!
maggiemaynj 1 year ago
A common thread I've been seeing is that The Outlaws were a great concert group...and routinely kicked tails out of the headliner bands. They really had superb guitarists.

@jdrock14 Kiel opera house St. Louis - sold out jam packed. I also saw the CDB there the night Skynyrds plane crashed. Charlie came out and told the crowd before they all came out to play - was a starnge feeling - will never forget.
