two of the greastest songtress underated philis hymen and teena marie no big reconiction by the world yet they defined music in there era will never forget those two woman
We played this song at our wedding, along with "You Know How to Love Me" Sweet memories...we miss you Phyllis, you are gone but never forgotten...one of a kind...
I had dreams of meeting her one day and was devastated to hear when she passed I came up listening to her on my dads records and at almost 30 it still feels like the first time my dad placed the needle delicately down and out came a voice so hauntingly beautiful even at my young age gave me the chills aw the memories.....RIP Ms. Hyman know your music is still appreciated..
ONCE AND FOR ALL, I FEEL THE NEED TO EXPRESS MY FEELINGS ABOUT THE LEGEND, THAT WAS PHYLLIS HYMAN.I MET PHYLLIS IN NEW YORK CITY ABOUT 1979 OR 1980. WE HAD A VERY DEEP CONVERSATION ABOUT LIFES MYSTERYS, AND UPS AND DOWNS. SHE WAS AS BRILLANT, AS SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL.SHE REMEMBERED OUR TALK SOME TIME LATER,AND ALWAYS SEEMED TO SEEK FURTHUR UNDERSTANDINGS.I LAST SAW HER A FEW MONTHS BEFORE HER PASSING. NO ONE CAN SAY WHY, BUT I PRAY SHE HAS FOUND THE TRUTH SHE SOUGHT. I MISS YOU PRETTY LADY.REST WELL
I always wished she found the right man that always had dignity for her and have a family of their own. Then that man be a true friend to her that would always understood her along with compassion and unconditional-love, standing behind her career taking part in it. I wish she weren't so unfortunate with her love-life. I'm sure she would of been a great wife and mother. I'm also sure she would of came out with some more nice music if she was still around.
This is such a cold song, love it to death. the line "when you touch me ther is something deep inside", i love how the band chimes in with the violin/cello, so beautiful and times topping
i have many favorite female singers i love and adore in this world, BUT! THE BEST! will always be PHYLLIS HYMAN to me,, just simply a awesome woman and a awesome singer. A row model for all young women to follow, minus the depression that seems to run rampant in all communities.
this is one of those times that I really miss her and her music always seems to bring comfort when something goes wrong in a relationship and then for that one horriable moment you remeber that she is gone but the memories makes thing just a little better. So thanks phyllis you have done more in your life than you ever cold have realized and that was to bring some joy in a troubled world of emotions
I remember the first time I met her she walked into my clothing store in Philly, just as I opened,...I knew who she was the moment I saw her. My brother had pictures of her all over his room... he has mad
love for her. She was drop dead gorgeous, wearing one of those puffy winter coats (PURPLE). We spent 2 hours talking about music and why those with the worst voices made it in the industry. Had tickets to see her in NY at the Apollo. Was never to be. God Bless all that you gave Phyllis.
WDAS???? Really? I have listened to that station for 35 years...love it to death. They rarely play any of her music and I was so disappointed the lack of air play and support that the station gave her last two albums when they were released and VERY little tribute when she died.
Man I first heard her voice and this song in Set it Off when I was a kid. I was thinking wow this is a great song. Years later I discovered Ms. Phyllis. She was such a blessing.
my mom use to play this when i was younger when i was 8 and i hated it so much!! but now that im much older i realize the true beauty of it and now im addcited to beauty music like this thanks mom :)
CAKAFELLA, I FEEL YA...DO YOU REMEMBER DR PERRY JOHNSON...THE ASTRO DISC IF YOU ARE OF THOSE TIMES YES I'M HOME SICK! IM ON THE WEST COAST THESE DAYS AND THESE OLDIES HAVE SAVE ME MANY DAY!
im in the atl and miss wdas. i have a video of some pics around philly recently if anyone is homesick. i remember das would play the jonesgirls nights over egypt some nights. i wish i was old enough to drive back then, cuz i can see me on west river drive with this playing
@dls99 - I concur. Growing up in Philly we were fortunate to have so many greats recording there. Back in the day I'd pass them on the streets, at the mall or in a store. They were fabulous talents and wonderful normal people. Phyllis, Grover, Lou Rawls, Intruders, Stylistics, Blue Magic, Lonnie Liston Smith, Norman Connors, George Howard, and the lsit goes on. I don't live in Philly anymore, but I appreciate people like Tony Brown and the others at WDAS for keeping her spirit alive.
Where have you been all my life......I was nothing, I was nowhere till you came and made it RIGHT!!!!...This was one of Phyllis Hymans best! R.I.P...Song Bird
@mbaker21969 Thank you very much...you never waiver with your love for me!
Back in the day in downtown Chicago I say Phyllis perform at the jazz club "George's Phyllis Hyman was a "BEAUTIFUL WOMAN" during her time. She Killed This Song. Standing Room Only Yall. They Absolutely Do Not Make Music Like This NO MO!
@joyfulgail ....her problems were beyond money...I saw her in person and actually met her face to face..I got a chance to tell her how much I loved how she sang...
Phyllis BEST song ever. I could hear this song a million times "literally" and never get tired. As a matter of fact, I have heard a million times and I'm still not tired. I love this song! My favorite! Get's me all happy and shit.
This was my mother 's favorite song for me to sing to her. Phyllis Hyman was truly an angel in disguise as was my mother. God Bless both of your soul's!!!!! I love and miss you both.:-(
WDAS in philly where she is from plays this alot on overcast winter days right after a snowfall. Her voice, that scene, and a long ride on the Schuylkill Express Way will soothe your mind fo sho.
I remember hearing this when she first died in 1995. I was 15, and spent the next 15 years asking people what the name of it was, because all I could remember of it was the end "riding on the storm, keep my loving warm....come on and give me..."
Phyllis and Donnie and a lot of your songsters were so passionate and wore their feelings on their sleeves. A lot of times gifted people are extremely sensitive and they feel extremely deep. They take things deeper and think on them when they would know how to let them go only if they had Jesus and the Comforter in thier lives to keep them from dwelling on their hurts and dissapointments so.
@TrudyBuck I agree. After reading her book it didn't seem that she had anyone to go to for that lift and to enforce that GOD would carry her when she was weak.
@vmccarty1055 I was afraid that was the case...I wish I would have been old enough to be around, and be a friend and help her. I'm 19 and I know that GOD is the answer to everything...I never met her but I miss her so.
Phyllis will live again. Jesus promises us: John 5:28,29
Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment
why Duke I will tell you. she lead with her heart just listen to her songs . No one will never come close to her passion. I wish she was singing that song to me
who are the 2 sick f***s who could possibly dislike this...SMH... this is timeless, get a soulllll!!!!
