  • hey man, I want to buy this guitar but Im wondering: how HPL behaves with age on guitars? thanks

  • very sweet thanks for posting! this one is tricking the hell out of me now :)

  • I like your version very much. Thanks for posting. You got the alternating bass down -- but the bass line in the original song is slyly more complicated. I'm working on it, and if I ever figure it out, I'll post my version here. FWIW, none of the tribute versions of Sligo River Blues has the bass line down cold. That's Fahey -- and he said he became bored with this song. Keep playing!

  • Hey Russell, great playing man. You turned me on to this John Fahey fingerstyle stuff. I am quite set on buying the 000X1 in the next few weeks, but since you own both, I wanted to ask you: is there much appreciable difference in the quality of the low end between the 000X1 and the DX1? Just covering my bases (or basses? No pun intended). Thanks man.

  • The first song that got my thumb rockin was Van Ronk's Green Rock Road. Theres an instruction video by the man himself on You Tube. Loved the Cover!

  • This is so beautiful!!! I just came here looking for a good demo of the 000x1 and you sure gave one! I am so happy to hear this song...it is so beautiful. I will be learning it now Thanks! :)

  • @iMakeY0Ucrazy Can someone help me out? I am a lefty and lookinf for a 000 or folk size...now I like Seagull but they make fuck all left handed really so I wondered if anyone could tell me with £600 whether to get one of these, a taylor or any other one someone could recommend?? I am going mad looking for one. I am wary of these martins as it seems like a bottom end guitar just cashing in on the martin rep?? but any comments are welcome.

  • @waves14 I too am a lefty and I have been to regular chain music stores as well as boutique shops and played a ridiculous amount of different acoustics. I can tell you with no small degree of confidence that in this price range, the Martin X series is the most complete, well-rounded and well-built guitar, and sounds just as good as any other Martin costing more than twice as much. I will be purchasing my 000X1AE in the next few weeks. But of course, it all depends on your style and sound.

  • I'd say best version on youtube, your da's is great too :)

  • I want to buy this guitar, what you guys think of the guitar?

  • Great playing!

  • Thanks for your candor about the practice time prior to production. This is absolutely beautiful and your hard work has clearly paid off. Kudos brother.

How are you liking that Martin 000x1? I'm looking to by one (play mostly blues). The price seems right and the online reviews seem to support it. Your thoughts?

  • yeah it's got a great neck. i normally play with 12s, so a medium gauge string. i have a DX1 too, and that is very good. The 000x1 still sounds great, and good for shuffles and palm muting. Very nice guitar indeed.

  • how do you get your guitar that loud?

  • whoooeeeee that was nice.

How did you learn this song? Was is from that one tab that is listed on the fahey website?

Thanks! I want to learn this next and I'm thinking i shuld learn from watching this video of yours. Same way i learned Red Pony (except i used the Guitar Guitar video)...the tabs kinda screw with me, haha.

  • my dad, who is also on youtube (1ArtfulBodger) helped me learn this just from listening to the record a lot lol. It's only c,f,g and if you can play rocking bass and fingerstyle just work out the melody and slowly build it all up. but patience is very important!

  • Oh sweet! yeah i've been watching his stuff for the last couple of years.

Thanks for the tip. I'll listen very carefully and maybe even watch your video in slow mo taking notes, haha.

    Thanks, bud!

  • if you post it on youtube please let me know!

  • Nice job buddy! Hey, quick question. I have the same guitar and was wondering how I should clean it. It is kinda getting dirty where my arm touches the guitar how can I go about cleaning it.

  • Hey. Not sure about the cleaning, I like my guitars to have a bit of dirt lol part of the story of the guitar in my opinion.

  • @ztbsk8er If your still interested...if the guitar has a satin finish. I take a warm "slightly" soapy rag and wipe her down. DRY IMMEDIATE! Hope this helps. I know this post is a year old.

  • @ztbsk8er If you're still looking... Use Gorgomyte for the fretboard and Jim Dunlop Formula no. 65 for the body.

I like wear and tear too, but dirt mixed with sweat corrodes things.

  • wonderful!

i'ver beent trying to learn Fahey's red pony for a year and half now...being into it in and out over the time. Not having a tab makes it hard. have just been studying the the video here on youtube where he plays it on the "Guitar Guitar" show. One day i'll get it all. and when i do, i'll learn this one next!

    excellent job, sir

  • around 1:14 the note played over and over again...was to strong for the other notes(my Opinion)...still good show.

  • I just learned this song by watching your video, thank you! It is very fun to play. I just wanted to know... what kind of strings do you use? I also have a Martin 000x1 and I love the sound yours makes, and mine doesn't seem to make the same.

  • i played this guitar and it seems nice, but i am skeptical about the hpl.

how is it. how does it sound strummed after you own it for a while.

  • wow!! im soo getting this guitar you rock!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow fantastic song , altough i don't know the original this sounds certainly very good :)

  • the original is much better lol

  • is this guitar made in US?

  • yep, the 000x1 is made in the USA, the DX1 in Mexico

  • this is the song im workin on now, sounds differebt then the one i got. but,, yeah you do gotta use the thumb alot, it;s frusterating

  • i have the same guitar. its awesome great sound, out of a smaller size martin. its so comfortable as well.

    great job man.

  • yeah i love this guitar, so easy to play, i also play a DX1 but i think the 000X1 has the edge for fingerstyle

  • i was actually torn between the 000x1 and the dx1. i went with the 000x1 just for that reason. and i think its more comftortable.

  • well the melody doesn't sounds 'bluesy', but it has the I-IV-V progression of C, F, G. Which is a standard blues progression.

  • I was in Sligo today...........lovely playing

  • I find the composition rather unimaginative, but it's a very-well played cover.

  • wow I love this song, such a beautiful melody.

  • ah! that cover is silky smooth! great feel.

  • thanks for all the kind comments people!

  • very nice playing

  • Well done great work.

  • awesome rendition man! an great feel for the tune.

  • Worth waiting for, a very nice version ;-)

  • Wonder where he learned this!!Well played.
