Let's be honest. Sanford and Son is definitely one of the funniest shows ever. Also, a very good example of life in L.A. To me, along with Three's Company, Sanford and Son is so funny.

Three's Company is based on a show in Britain called Man About The House, and Sanford & Son is based on show Steptoe & Son, but in the original Steptoe & Son they are white...

Rising Damp, Hale and Pace, Harry Enfield and Chums and of course Q ( spike milligan). This is just some comedy shows and could go on about other tv shows. There is good and bad everywhere. But I think we can all agree that TV quite frankly sucks now and the same with movies. It seems that movies coming out now are remakes with bad acting or very bad plots. Movies coming out now are all about effects and not about the plot. But movies from the 70s and 80s were about the plot.
How about Keeping Up Appearances, Fawlty Towers, and Are You Being Served? I'm American, I watch British tv and love it, but I have to admit that Sanford an Son, though it is a rip off of Steptoe and Son, is much funnier. It's not a bias. Steptoe and Son was funny, but nobody could whip out the one-liners like Fred Sanford. And I agree, modern tv is pure garbage. Oh, and The Young Ones fucking rocked. :)

Three's Company is based on a show in Britain called Man About The House, and Sanford & Son is based on show Steptoe & Son, but in the original Steptoe & Son they are white...

Rising Damp, Hale and Pace, Harry Enfield and Chums and of course Q ( spike milligan). This is just some comedy shows and could go on about other tv shows. There is good and bad everywhere. But I think we can all agree that TV quite frankly sucks now and the same with movies. It seems that movies coming out now are remakes with bad acting or very bad plots. Movies coming out now are all about effects and not about the plot. But movies from the 70s and 80s were about the plot.

I'm American, I watch British tv and love it, but I have to admit that Sanford an Son, though it is a rip off of Steptoe and Son, is much funnier. It's not a bias. Steptoe and Son was funny, but nobody could whip out the one-liners like Fred Sanford. And I agree, modern tv is pure garbage. Oh, and The Young Ones fucking rocked. :)

the uk "golden girls" was awful - mostly bcos they used the same script. us 'the office' is gr8 cos tho the idea's similar, its different.

yeah, practically - probably a lot of the references were changed for british audiences but i remember it being the same. it was dreadful.
america and the uk may seem very similar in many ways but we are two different countries (well, duh!) - we get each others' humour but it doesn't necessarily translated.
if sanford had used the steptoe script it would not have worked at all. sanford was for american audiences, even if others can appreciate it.
