We need a band to put out good ROCK songs again. The audience is here. We want new bands and new songs that sound just like these old ones. Whatever happened to the rock album? Too bad John Travolta can't punch a big ass shot of adrenaline through the breast-plate of Rock and Roll!
I'm hearing jams that didn't make it on an album on this video-awesome! I agree with both drryles and Daim0th. There are a lot of great guitar players out there. Ingvie Malmsteen is an incredible guitarist but Eddie is unmatched in creativity. The MOST creative since Hendrix in my opinion...even MORE so! Back in the day I had a friend who was the best guitarist I ever personally knew and he said he admired Eddie for his phrasing.

Speed isn't everything. EVH's playing has a "flair" of its own. He's one of those guys that you know who it is playing right away when you hear it. It's his style and his playing, but also his sound he got from his amps and effects.
For all you upcoming rock stars, here's some more advice. Try to find a signature sound like Eddie did. So when people hear that sound - they know its you.
You have to experiment like Eddie did, but with some effort, you just might be the next EVH.
you know what these riffs are all so uckin good I'm just gonna have to bring my guitar up to my computer room tomorrow listen and get totally inspired by king edward
Eddie was a pioneer. No matter who plays better now, he was the first to do many things on the instrument and actually formed his own "school" of sound on the electric guitar.
Hey, awesome to hear all the vh songs from back in their club days. I take it you have all these. It would be wicked to have a copy can you send me a copy?
ok guys heres what we all must do together and at the same time.!!
we know mr edward van van halen has tons more unreleased stuff like this than we could listen to in a few years right??
well i for one would ask eddie to please for all that is holy--release one new CD of this awesome stuff no matter how poor the sound quallity im not sure what kind of price would be right but i wouldnt care im a fan and consider whatever price fine please eddie.i digress!
hey mate no prob, thanks for the reply though. The faster one at 4:19 is actually van halen i found out. It's a tune called bullet head and has the same drums and bassline as atomic punks, but later they changed it by putting different lyrics and guitar riffs for it, thats what turned it into atomic, sadly it never found it's way on to any of there albums...shame though, its a great tune, i like it better than atomic punks, the riff is much harder.
I was thinking of the riff beginning at 4:47. I hear one chord in there that is similar to Bullet Head and a little flanged part that reminds me of Mean Street. I love Bullet Head and have heard VH's version and the Atomic Punks version.
No offense but I don't think B.H turned into Atomic Punk. I see no similarities between the songs. They were playing both those songs during their club shows in the mid 70's. I have the boots to prove it.
There are definitely players faster than Eddie and players with better technique but I don't think anyone in the last 25 years has done more to explore the range of what a guitar can do than Eddie.

"Good technique" is incredibly relative. I've heard players run up and down scales quicker, and sweep pick pretty impressively. However, I've never heard anybody play play large chords so cleanly, I've never heard anybody tremolo pick like that, I've never heard any else that forces me to pay attention so totally.
He is the most pleasing guitar player to listen to in the history of rock music.
@Daim0th My take on guitarists is this: There are many guys who can play faster, cleaner, etc,. than Eddie, but many of them lack the key factor, which I call, "the Cool." For example, Yngwie Malmsteen can play better than anyone, but in my opinion, he doesn't have "the cool". Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Jimmi Hendrix, etc., have "the cool." Eddie has "the Cool." Ya know what I mean?
@ctcassidy Exactly dude!!! Yeah thats exactamento dude!!! The word is "COOOOOLLLL" and Eddie, Vai, Satch, Hendrix, Gilbert and many others have that, but there are many out there that are Good players and awesome players too but the "COOL" factor puts these guitar players on TOP. Amen to that
@Daim0th You have to put it in the context of his time. Circa 1978 there were very few people playing like EVH, from a technical standpoint. Stylistically, I don't think he's been topped. He's a total original.
@Daim0th Thats a damn on the spot testimony about Eddie. Sure a lot of guys are talking shitty bad things about Eddie now, but hey. It's Eddies life, thats the way he wants to enjoy it or whatever and nobody has the right to say a shit about it. I woke up to the world of guitar music because of Eddie. There may be other players who can do a lot of different awesome things, but none will ever be Eddie Van Halen in spirit. All Hail Eddie, my first Guitar God
@drryles also, while satriani and vai and malmsteen may fall into the fast and better technique catagories who will remember them really. aside form hard core players they are pretty much ghosts. but eddie he is still god and known by everyone. and they can still sell out arenas easily.
Dude,I've commented you in the past,& I still wanna thank you,b/c I come back to this when I need a VH fix of the unreleased stuff.Somebody tell me what is @ 2:00?The riff is just murder!!
I remember an interview they did with DLR during the US festival..he said, "I'm gonna go in the tent and get the seamstress to suck all the air out of these bellbottoms so the people can see what they're gettin".. Rock N Roll was so good back then..but so was life..this growin' up shit really didn't turn out the way I planned..lol
Rock n Roll has always been about stickin it the "theman" with all the shit u been shoveling on Sammy I got a question for ya. Are you the man? lol hahahaha thats too funny
google "montrose" see what u can find and begin your homework. I have all that stuff around here somewhere that was so long ago when i looked into all that. its in a few boxes in the studio somewhere. Hurricane showed me all that he was the singer of the last band I was in. He knows all that history/ trivia stuff, I'm more intot he tunes. Hurricane could put together a great pre van halen sammy tribute. Oh ya 7th seal will be loaded by next week. Well.. sort of... I'll do what i can.. G'day
"If you understand no explaination is neccesary. If you don't understand no explaination is possible". "Live and let live". its all good "Heavy Metal" lol hahahaha thats funny.
I'm still going to work on, as best i can 7th seal and then maybe the whole balance CD. That should fix your wagon. Insult Sammy again and I'll try to learn everyone. Thank you i needed some inspiration today. besides i'm just f**ken around on the guitar anyway so what does it really matter.
Not that Eddie needed any help with his creativity he's a genious, but they fed from eachother to make the best rock music ever recorded and distributed. I do look forward to how Wolfie inspires Eddy on the upcoming CD. Should be smokin.
beeing in my mid fortys you have to realize that of cousre van halen is and was great but back then beeing in my mid teens eddies style was so new that it sounded to the untrained ear like it was alot ot special effects though it wasnt .also beeing that kidds then compared everything to led zepplin and it was so different it took me a few yrs tp start liking them .things were differnet in the late 70's there was so many good bands out there. they were are very main stream though
There was hardly any good bands out in the late 70's. That's when music needed bands like Van Halen. The only bands I can think of were maybe AC/DC and MAYBE Quiet Riot.
jamminwithvanhalen: Sammy has NO style - he was total crap before VH - only had "I can't drive 55" as a sorta hit - and it sucks. VH picked Sammy because they got along...and Sammy is a pussy.
Sammy brought stability and maturity to the band, but i guess that just a language you don't understand. Sammy got some great lyrics. I love disapproval and just to piss you off I'm going to learn, well try to learn as best i can more sammy tunes. I was going to work on drop dead legs but now I'm going to learn 7th seal. So move on. It's all Eddie anyway and Sammy brought a new level to Eddies creativity. Come on thats gotta be worth something. You just want to split hairs ya rat f**k.
jamminwithvanhalen: show us where Sammy has done ANYTHING before joing VH? You and 50 other 'tards were Sammy fans - that's where it ends. "I Can't Drive 55" is ALL Sammy did - and I can barely listen to that. You post is more about your hurt feelings and spiteful response than mature factual reasoning. Grow up dude, learn to take criticism and accept being wrong, you're 46 for jeez's sake, lol.
The demo song was called "Bring on the Girls" and then obviously redone in the studio and changed to "Beautiful Girls". You can hear it at .20, 4.20, and 5.50.
I first saw VH back in the late 70's, They were opening for Billy Squire. Awesome concert, they were jumping off amps onto a mini-trap, doing flips! Crowd brought them back for 3 encores, lights came up for what we thought was a 4th, It was Billy Squire. Crowd started booing, Billy got angry and started yelling at the crowd. 75% of the people then left. Lonely is the night, indeed!!
Eddie was unheard of when I was just a kid. Nothing like this style of rock and roll had come about. A tribute to the essence of 70's and 80's rock and roll and helped pave the way for many others!
Never can get enough of this stuff!
Thanks for sharing and bringing back the memories of the old days!!

@drryles Who?
jesseroman3 1 year ago
@drryles also, while satriani and vai and malmsteen may fall into the fast and better technique catagories who will remember them really. aside form hard core players they are pretty much ghosts. but eddie he is still god and known by everyone. and they can still sell out arenas easily.

Rock N Roll was so good back then..but so was life..this growin' up shit really didn't turn out the way I planned..lol

lots of the old songs are not produced.. too bad
they sound great tho.
I mean take the song Big Trouble a lot of people like it but it's not produced.. at least not on cd.
I mean not a lot of people have the Gene Simmons demo from 78'
They should throw an album out with all the gold old songs on it
Vanquard5150 2 years ago

jamminwithvanhalen 2 years ago
sammy was fine on his own but the simple truth is his cheesy as lyrics suck with van halen
alicenchainsrocks 2 years ago
so true, dave sings about the good times and sam has written the song ''poundcake'' I mean common'
how cheesy can you get haha
still the clubbin' days with good old dave are the best
Vanquard5150 2 years ago
Just because you don't like don't mean it aint what inspires someone else. Rock and let rock dude.
jamminwithvanhalen 2 years ago
google "montrose" see what u can find and begin your homework. G'day
jamminwithvanhalen 2 years ago
"If you understand no explaination is neccesary. If you don't understand no explaination is possible". "Live and let live". its all good "Heavy Metal" lol hahahaha thats funny.
jamminwithvanhalen 2 years ago
I'm still going to work on, as best i can 7th seal and then maybe the whole balance CD. That should fix your wagon. Insult Sammy again and I'll try to learn everyone. Thank you i needed some inspiration today. besides i'm just f**ken around on the guitar anyway so what does it really matter.
jamminwithvanhalen 2 years ago
Not that Eddie needed any help with his creativity he's a genious, but they fed from eachother to make the best rock music ever recorded and distributed. I do look forward to how Wolfie inspires Eddy on the upcoming CD. Should be smokin.
jamminwithvanhalen 2 years ago
whear'd ya get the 'unreleased' recordings? sounds like interesting stuff.......
timeabstract 2 years ago
beeing in my mid fortys you have to realize that of cousre van halen is and was great but back then beeing in my mid teens eddies style was so new that it sounded to the untrained ear like it was alot ot special effects though it wasnt .also beeing that kidds then compared everything to led zepplin and it was so different it took me a few yrs tp start liking them .things were differnet in the late 70's there was so many good bands out there. they were are very main stream though
zdogy1 2 years ago
There was hardly any good bands out in the late 70's. That's when music needed bands like Van Halen. The only bands I can think of were maybe AC/DC and MAYBE Quiet Riot.
JManGuitar5150 2 years ago
You mean bands that play the same shit over and over. Like VH?
Adnoydal 2 years ago
Old stuff great sound. Sammy brought his own style to the band. It's all Eddie though.
jamminwithvanhalen 2 years ago
jamminwithvanhalen: Sammy has NO style - he was total crap before VH - only had "I can't drive 55" as a sorta hit - and it sucks. VH picked Sammy because they got along...and Sammy is a pussy.
MoveOnDotOrgg 2 years ago
Sammy brought stability and maturity to the band, but i guess that just a language you don't understand. Sammy got some great lyrics. I love disapproval and just to piss you off I'm going to learn, well try to learn as best i can more sammy tunes. I was going to work on drop dead legs but now I'm going to learn 7th seal. So move on. It's all Eddie anyway and Sammy brought a new level to Eddies creativity. Come on thats gotta be worth something. You just want to split hairs ya rat f**k.
jamminwithvanhalen 2 years ago
jamminwithvanhalen: show us where Sammy has done ANYTHING before joing VH? You and 50 other 'tards were Sammy fans - that's where it ends. "I Can't Drive 55" is ALL Sammy did - and I can barely listen to that. You post is more about your hurt feelings and spiteful response than mature factual reasoning. Grow up dude, learn to take criticism and accept being wrong, you're 46 for jeez's sake, lol.
MoveOnDotOrgg 2 years ago
anybody no where he got all these old van halen songs at. . . i would kill to get my hands on them lol i perfer their old stuff over van hagar

I just don't get why there hasn't been a decent catalog of this stuff been made available for the fans to buy. More EVH prick behavior.
