  • Dave haters are in a wrong video to comment on, they need to go comment on journey's video, nobody here puts the greatest front-man ever down

  • the best shit that ever happen in hard rock/heavy metal

  • David Lee Roth & Vanhalen Rule Rock-n-Roll

  • HOLY SMOKES-WE LOVE THIS MY FRIEND-MORRIS/ROBERTS GROUP-WHAT AN ASSORTMENT OF SOUNDS-GENIOUS IN PROGRESS

  • whats the song at 1:22

  • heyhey hey whats the name of the second song bit in the video? thanks

  • a lot of this stuff sounds great, why didn't they put it out?

  • WE HAD SOME BOOTLEG/DEMO TAPES IN THE EARLY 80'S.BLACK STAR.BUDGEES SONG(A BIRD THAT PICKS THE BUGS OFF ANIMALS IN THE JUNGLE SAID DAVE) DAVE FALLING ON STAGE.OSAKA JAPAN.THIS IS OUR LAST SHOW HERE AT THE PASADINA CIVIC!HERE'S ONE OFF OUR NEW ALBUM ATOMIC PUNK!TED TEMPLEMAN WHERE ARE YOU THIS ONE'S FOR YOU BABY!BULLET HEAD ALSO.JAMES GANG FUNK 49. DIFF VERSION OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST .THESE GUYS WERE DRINKIN AND PARTYIN AND ROCKIN OUR WORLD.OH YEAH THIS IS GREAT TO HEAR ,THANKS 5150!

  • The early days, the band that survive punk, disco. Help release \m/ Heavy Metal \m/

  • I wish they had gotten Ted Templeman for the new record. Every good album these guys put out had Templeman behind it. He new how to clarify their magic better than anyone. Even 5150, Eatem and Smile, and For Unlawful Carnal Logic were the best late era VH releases. I'm crossing my fingers on the new album. I did hear they are pulling inspiration from their early demos from multiple sources.

  • We need a band to put out good ROCK songs again. The audience is here. We want new bands and new songs that sound just like these old ones. Whatever happened to the rock album? Too bad John Travolta can't punch a big ass shot of adrenaline through the breast-plate of Rock and Roll!

  • I wish they would release all these classic demos on a massive CD. A must have for a true VH fan. I'll keep waiting...........

  • I'm hearing jams that didn't make it on an album on this video-awesome! I agree with both drryles and Daim0th. There are a lot of great guitar players out there. Ingvie Malmsteen is an incredible guitarist but Eddie is unmatched in creativity. The MOST creative since Hendrix in my opinion...even MORE so! Back in the day I had a friend who was the best guitarist I ever personally knew and he said he admired Eddie for his phrasing.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • DLR = best frontman. Period.

  • @topjimmy72 I disagree. I think DLR is not only incredibly overrated, but is easily the low point of Van Halen.

  • @Daim0th Please tell me you are just kidding. I almost cried.....

  • EVH = GOD

  • What song is at 0:33?

  • Best band EVERRRRRRRR

  • What's the riff at 1:00 from?

  • @odgeUK Found it. Van Halen-I Wanna Be Your Lover (1977 Demo)

  • Even though I'm kinda over guitar rock where the power of the guitar and the singer are more important than the over all song, I must admit that I still enjoy van halen.

  • van halen treats guitars like women

  • this guy has some good recordings.

  • Alex looks kinda Neanderthal, huh?

Can you imagine living that lifestyle? Crap, I'd be dead...

  • Folks this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are literally thousands of 24 track reels locked in the vaults over at 5150. Racks and racks and racks and racks of tape. It boggles the mind.

  • Where did you get all of these songs? Awesome! I recognize some key riffs that moved on to releases. Was that the "RWTD" car horns at 7:01?

  • Who the fuck is this person, and how the fuck do you have these recordings????

  • It's great that we have true artists like Justin Bieber now days and bands like this have retired..

  • lot of future songs though....

  • say what you want , in the 70's nobody was doing what eddie was doing.

without eddie there would be no floyd rose, nodody would be tapping and everyone would still think clapton is god. think about it eruption was recorded in 77/78 and

it's still great.. zappa summed it up when he thanked eddie for reinventing the guitar,

    just ask steve vai...

  • @wathmas - very well put , sir ! nobody has topped the originality and individual creativity as what eddie did in those first 5 albums...not even eddie. steve IS an incredible player and full of talent & technique (seen him live 6 times) but eddies early work has not, and may never be, topped. nice that folks like you are stating things in an accurate viewpoint. pretty dang hard to get respect out of the zapman, that says alot ! -te

  • what's the song at 6:04? thanks in advance

  • @EVH5150fanatic : Bullethead.

  • Lol @ "The Complete Recording of Legendaly Concert"

    Engrish FTW

  • I remember Ted Nugent saying DLR was a "cheap, shitty version of Jim Dandy" of Black Oak Arkansas. Dave may not have been a great singer in the technical sense but he defined the "front man" thing. Besides, Ted's become a cheap, shitty version of what he was in 78/79.

  • @KnqsX DavidLeeRoth never had great singing chops,he was great for a bar band.Ted doesnt let the music do the talkin` I guess. Two guys that had it all but let their big fat heads get in the way.

  • @KnqsX Ted Nugent sucks dick, DLR takes shits that sound and look better than Ted Nugent

  • You won't hear a guitar tone like for another 200 years. An odd guy, but a terror on guitar.

  • @nomad6886 U got that right.

  • Edward's rhythm playing is so tight and killer.

  • One of the best things about Van Halen's music is it epitomized the positive things in my life growing up in the late 70's and early 80's. Namely, parties, girls and surfing. You listen to alot of new hard rock today and they are so angry in their style. On the other hand, Van Halen are having so much fun playing and such positive vibes.

  • heavy funky and fun, that's what I appreciate abut Ed. Shitloads of talent, nevermind that 'best guitarist" bullshit. There's only one "Ed" - 'nuff said.

  • They are copying GRAND FUNK ,,

  • @47tooter - Nah,but the Chili Peppers sure have !

  • @korina95 Yes , David said mark Farner is the best front man ever ! and he tries to be like him . also , Eddie said Mark was his Idol.

  • best rock ever,,,end of story!

  • whats 1:00 to 1:05 ??

  • This is fucking awesome!!!

  • Whats the very first track on this montage? Would love to find it?

  • @TheNiz73

    "Act Like It Hurts"

    One of Eddie's instrumentals

  • Perhaps the greatest rock band from the USA.

  • fantastic

  • VH Rules!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Speed isn't everything. EVH's playing has a "flair" of its own. He's one of those guys that you know who it is playing right away when you hear it. It's his style and his playing, but also his sound he got from his amps and effects.

For all you upcoming rock stars, here's some more advice. Try to find a signature sound like Eddie did. So when people hear that sound - they know its you.

You have to experiment like Eddie did, but with some effort, you just might be the next EVH.

  • you know what these riffs are all so uckin good I'm just gonna have to bring my guitar up to my computer room tomorrow listen and get totally inspired by king edward

  • Old school baby !

  • THE BEST

  • Eddie was a pioneer. No matter who plays better now, he was the first to do many things on the instrument and actually formed his own "school" of sound on the electric guitar.

  • what song is that at 1:21

  • @dmohr7 "Light in the Sky"

  • Does any one know what the bass and drrum intro was in the very begining up to :06? Would love to know!

  • Never mind that. Just found out it is Act Like it Hurts.

  • @thadbrains "Dirty Movies" of Fair Warning 2nd Track.

  • Hey, awesome to hear all the vh songs from back in their club days. I take it you have all these. It would be wicked to have a copy can you send me a copy?

  • Where i can get it?

  • @Leonardoo69 - this is Hollywood schlock and roll -- tits, tits and more RUBBER tits.

  • hooks , hooks, and even more hooks

ok guys heres what we all must do together and at the same time.!!

we know mr edward van van halen has tons more unreleased stuff like this than we could listen to in a few years right??

well i for one would ask eddie to please for all that is holy--release one new CD of this awesome stuff no matter how poor the sound quallity im not sure what kind of price would be right but i wouldnt care im a fan and consider whatever price fine please eddie.i digress!

  • "Reign Of The Warriors" Is One Of The Best Guitar Songs Ever Recorded In My Opinion

  • Yes. Yes of course it is. Absolutely the best Guitar Song ever recorded. I bet Satriani will just burn all his guitars when he hears that one.

  • I really loved van halen when they 1st came out. Straight ahead rock and roll. Diver down and 1984 were my least fav van halen albums.

  • at 1:02 wat arena is that pic of/?

  • between 4:02 and 4:19 SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME THOSE SONGS!!!! PLEASE! they're such awesome riffs!!!

  • @AviatorAndyK I have every sample from this compelation and I never heard those before. They sound like someone trying to be EVH. MIght be a clone...

  • hey mate no prob, thanks for the reply though. The faster one at 4:19 is actually van halen i found out. It's a tune called bullet head and has the same drums and bassline as atomic punks, but later they changed it by putting different lyrics and guitar riffs for it, thats what turned it into atomic, sadly it never found it's way on to any of there albums...shame though, its a great tune, i like it better than atomic punks, the riff is much harder.

  • @AviatorAndyK

I was thinking of the riff beginning at 4:47. I hear one chord in there that is similar to Bullet Head and a little flanged part that reminds me of Mean Street. I love Bullet Head and have heard VH's version and the Atomic Punks version.

No offense but I don't think B.H turned into Atomic Punk. I see no similarities between the songs. They were playing both those songs during their club shows in the mid 70's. I have the boots to prove it.

    Thanks for you're reply!

  • 1:42 is voodoo queen, 1:48 anyone know???

  • 2.46 is put out the lights

  • Does anyone know what the first song on this medley is ?

  • Beautiful Girls which ended up on the second album

  • "Act Like It Hurts" is the first song, which is an outtake from Women And Children First.

  • There are definitely players faster than Eddie and players with better technique but I don't think anyone in the last 25 years has done more to explore the range of what a guitar can do than Eddie.

    Best wishes,

    Dr. Ryles

  • Eddie was fast. not the fastest, but pretty fast. I only wish that it was hes natural speed and not due to the drugs. He probably could of gotten faster in time if he didnt do drugs.

  • i agree with you man, he wasn't and isn't the fastest. i'm sure his speed was his natural speed, but it could have been even faster, like you said, if he hadn't been high.

with eddie though, it isn't always about his speed, he just sort of has his own awesome style and rocks it. i think it's just all about the sound and the technique with him, rather than just being the fastest (lol, dragon force). you never know, it could have been even better sober, but what we got was pretty bad ass.

  • At the time of 78 I thought he WAS the fastest?

  • @drryles your right we need a new hero all the guitar gods are getting old now

  • @drryles : 25 years? The DLR era was over 25 years ago. Don't you mean 35 years?

  • @djamo1969 35 years? Wow. You're right. Where have all the good times gone?

  • @drryles Nor has the feeling and eddies playing just seems more intresting then every other "shreeder" out there

  • @drryles

"Good technique" is incredibly relative. I've heard players run up and down scales quicker, and sweep pick pretty impressively. However, I've never heard anybody play play large chords so cleanly, I've never heard anybody tremolo pick like that, I've never heard any else that forces me to pay attention so totally.

He is the most pleasing guitar player to listen to in the history of rock music.

  • @Daim0th My take on guitarists is this: There are many guys who can play faster, cleaner, etc,. than Eddie, but many of them lack the key factor, which I call, "the Cool." For example, Yngwie Malmsteen can play better than anyone, but in my opinion, he doesn't have "the cool". Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Jimmi Hendrix, etc., have "the cool." Eddie has "the Cool." Ya know what I mean?

  • @ctcassidy Exactly dude!!! Yeah thats exactamento dude!!! The word is "COOOOOLLLL" and Eddie, Vai, Satch, Hendrix, Gilbert and many others have that, but there are many out there that are Good players and awesome players too but the "COOL" factor puts these guitar players on TOP. Amen to that

  • Respond to this video... How do I get some of these full recordings for my iPod?

  • @Daim0th well said

  • @Daim0th SPOT ON!

  • @Daim0th You have to put it in the context of his time. Circa 1978 there were very few people playing like EVH, from a technical standpoint. Stylistically, I don't think he's been topped. He's a total original.

  • @Daim0th Thats a damn on the spot testimony about Eddie. Sure a lot of guys are talking shitty bad things about Eddie now, but hey. It's Eddies life, thats the way he wants to enjoy it or whatever and nobody has the right to say a shit about it. I woke up to the world of guitar music because of Eddie. There may be other players who can do a lot of different awesome things, but none will ever be Eddie Van Halen in spirit. All Hail Eddie, my first Guitar God

  • @drryles Who?

  • @drryles also, while satriani and vai and malmsteen may fall into the fast and better technique catagories who will remember them really. aside form hard core players they are pretty much ghosts. but eddie he is still god and known by everyone. and they can still sell out arenas easily.

  • 2:46 is what?

  • Jeah i find it! Its put on the lights :)

  • Whats the song at 1:30 and 3:10? Please help!

  • awesome video

  • 1:05 is hang 'em high off of diver down

  • Great compilation video! Thanks for the time and effort in bringing us all an amazing piece of =VH= history!

  • Thanks for making that! I can't believe how many different sounds they had. I seen them in 1980 in Ft Collins. Awesome show!

  • never knew eddie played an lp

  • Dude,I've commented you in the past,& I still wanna thank you,b/c I come back to this when I need a VH fix of the unreleased stuff.Somebody tell me what is @ 2:00?The riff is just murder!!

  • that is something in Drop D like UnChained

  • thats what i said man i can't find the song name!

  • wow wow wow! whats that at 1:05 please help!

  • thats the intro to 'hang em high' from the 'diver down' album...

  • I could really sit back, open a cold beer, shot of patron and listen to this all day, great vid. Thanks

  • yeahhhhhhh me too!!!! cool!!

  • I remember an interview they did with DLR during the US festival..he said, "I'm gonna go in the tent and get the seamstress to suck all the air out of these bellbottoms so the people can see what they're gettin".. Rock N Roll was so good back then..but so was life..this growin' up shit really didn't turn out the way I planned..lol

    nice vid dude

  • @dimesack65 You really hit the nail on the head with that last sentence, huh?

  • sound based thought

    f..cking miss this stuff man

  • Van Halen should release some of these on their new upcoming album

  • this is simply killer! whoever put this together is a true EVH fan.

  • pictures suck where are the videos?

  • Top 5 greatest bands in history!!

  • ...and 5sec is spider invasion alert.

  • ...25sec would make a great alien or ufo warning alert for radio?

  • this is good shit, nice

  • whats the name of the very first song??

  • this video singlehandely beats any "best riffs ever" video.

  • lots of the old songs are not produced.. too bad

    they sound great tho.

I mean take the song Big Trouble a lot of people like it but it's not produced.. at least not on cd.

I mean not a lot of people have the Gene Simmons demo from 78'

They should throw an album out with all the gold old songs on it

  • Van Halen in all thier Glory.

They were the shit. People of the world had no idea of what they were in for.

  • Damn, so many kick ass riffs, too bad none of them made it on vinyl!!

    Oh to be hungry again

  • Comment removed

  • what song is that 2:01 seconds in? it sounds awesome

  • Rock n Roll has always been about stickin it the "theman" with all the shit u been shoveling on Sammy I got a question for ya. Are you the man? lol hahahaha thats too funny

  • sammy was fine on his own but the simple truth is his cheesy as lyrics suck with van halen

  • so true, dave sings about the good times and sam has written the song ''poundcake'' I mean common'

how cheesy can you get haha

still the clubbin' days with good old dave are the best

  • Just because you don't like don't mean it aint what inspires someone else. Rock and let rock dude.

  • google "montrose" see what u can find and begin your homework. I have all that stuff around here somewhere that was so long ago when i looked into all that. its in a few boxes in the studio somewhere. Hurricane showed me all that he was the singer of the last band I was in. He knows all that history/ trivia stuff, I'm more intot he tunes. Hurricane could put together a great pre van halen sammy tribute. Oh ya 7th seal will be loaded by next week. Well.. sort of... I'll do what i can.. G'day

  • "If you understand no explaination is neccesary. If you don't understand no explaination is possible". "Live and let live". its all good "Heavy Metal" lol hahahaha thats funny.

  • I'm still going to work on, as best i can 7th seal and then maybe the whole balance CD. That should fix your wagon. Insult Sammy again and I'll try to learn everyone. Thank you i needed some inspiration today. besides i'm just f**ken around on the guitar anyway so what does it really matter.

  • Not that Eddie needed any help with his creativity he's a genious, but they fed from eachother to make the best rock music ever recorded and distributed. I do look forward to how Wolfie inspires Eddy on the upcoming CD. Should be smokin.

  • whear'd ya get the 'unreleased' recordings? sounds like interesting stuff.......

  • beeing in my mid fortys you have to realize that of cousre van halen is and was great but back then beeing in my mid teens eddies style was so new that it sounded to the untrained ear like it was alot ot special effects though it wasnt .also beeing that kidds then compared everything to led zepplin and it was so different it took me a few yrs tp start liking them .things were differnet in the late 70's there was so many good bands out there. they were are very main stream though

  • There was hardly any good bands out in the late 70's. That's when music needed bands like Van Halen. The only bands I can think of were maybe AC/DC and MAYBE Quiet Riot.

  • You mean bands that play the same shit over and over. Like VH?

  • Old stuff great sound. Sammy brought his own style to the band. It's all Eddie though.

  • jamminwithvanhalen: Sammy has NO style - he was total crap before VH - only had "I can't drive 55" as a sorta hit - and it sucks. VH picked Sammy because they got along...and Sammy is a pussy.

  • Sammy brought stability and maturity to the band, but i guess that just a language you don't understand. Sammy got some great lyrics. I love disapproval and just to piss you off I'm going to learn, well try to learn as best i can more sammy tunes. I was going to work on drop dead legs but now I'm going to learn 7th seal. So move on. It's all Eddie anyway and Sammy brought a new level to Eddies creativity. Come on thats gotta be worth something. You just want to split hairs ya rat f**k.

  • jamminwithvanhalen: show us where Sammy has done ANYTHING before joing VH? You and 50 other 'tards were Sammy fans - that's where it ends. "I Can't Drive 55" is ALL Sammy did - and I can barely listen to that. You post is more about your hurt feelings and spiteful response than mature factual reasoning. Grow up dude, learn to take criticism and accept being wrong, you're 46 for jeez's sake, lol.

  • anybody no where he got all these old van halen songs at. . . i would kill to get my hands on them lol i perfer their old stuff over van hagar

  • Holy Shit!! Where IS this unreleased stuff???

  • what song is at 4:21 ???

  • beautiful girls

  • The demo song was called "Bring on the Girls" and then obviously redone in the studio and changed to "Beautiful Girls". You can hear it at .20, 4.20, and 5.50.

  • This is Guitar Heaven.

    Riff and Roll Sky High.

  • 1:44 sounds like I Like Dirt by Chili peppers..but of course VH did it first \m/

  • Thats uh, Mean Street I believe.

  • I first saw VH back in the late 70's, They were opening for Billy Squire. Awesome concert, they were jumping off amps onto a mini-trap, doing flips! Crowd brought them back for 3 encores, lights came up for what we thought was a 4th, It was Billy Squire. Crowd started booing, Billy got angry and started yelling at the crowd. 75% of the people then left. Lonely is the night, indeed!!

  • I just don't get why there hasn't been a decent catalog of this stuff been made available for the fans to buy. More EVH prick behavior.

  • wat song is at 0:08

  • It resembles Best of Both Worlds in my opinion.

  • Where did you get these recordings?? Great stuff!

  • Eddie was unheard of when I was just a kid. Nothing like this style of rock and roll had come about. A tribute to the essence of 70's and 80's rock and roll and helped pave the way for many others!

Never can get enough of this stuff!

Thanks for sharing and bringing back the memories of the old days!!

  • at 00:20 is the orignal version of "beautiful girls". i think it's from the 76 demo tape called "bring on the girls".

  • 00:20 soulnd farmiliar what is it

  • Unheard masterey.....V.H. is Ruthless!

  • van halen should put a cd/dvd of their early days it should be interesting.

  • 5150EVH5150 is the coolest member of YouTube hands down! Thanks dude!!

  • You see it again @ 3:31

  • I like that double Kramer with the aluminum neck @ 2:06

  • Some of them are covers. Some are unreleased stuff. One song is Bullethead I think. 1:33 and 3:22 are Hang 'Em High.

  • Last Night actually,

Pretty much the same music to it,

    Diffrent lyrics.

  • whats the song in 1:08 and 1:18 and 1:33 and 2:47 and 3:22 and 6:42 and 8:32

  • 6:42 is Get The Show On The Road I beleive.

I'll be happy so to people any of these songs if you tell me which one you want.

Gotta share the amazing works of Van Halen around!

  • hey mate, do you know the 2 songs between 4:02 and 4:19 ???

  • they should put out a new album releasing all these unreleased songs because most of them are kick ass

  • What show is that at 4:40? Man they should have released some of those songs and skipped that whole gay dude from "Extremely Gay" phase.
