  • RIP my fellow aviators... Great Video Thank you..

  • I've flown on Colgan and didn't have any problems. Actually liked the Dash 8

  • I have a friend thats been a pilot for over 40 years. From military to US Airways. I HATE flying so every time I see him I have to reassure myself by speaking with him LOL. One day he brought up Colgan. He really beat to death how terrible this company is. How terrible their biz practice's are how they cut corners and really dont give a f**k. This is coming from a great pilot. I'd steer clear of this co. RIP everyone. And Colgan, go FUCK yourselves you pieces of fucking shit greed bitch ass's!

  • God bless all. It comes down to training that is the bottom line. Shame on Colgan Air. Stall recovery is private pilot training. How did this happen!! My prayers go out to the flight crew the passengers and all their families. Beautiful song.

  • As the creator of this video it amazes me how many of you are so rude towards the crew - do you think the crew wanted to die? What ever the cause may be - whose ever fault it may have been, the crew died too leaving behind loved ones. You should be a shamed of yourself if you are rude and nasty.

  • @tdonohue How about they crashed and have taken the lives of everyone on board to the simple fact that they had no idea what they were doing. Pitching a nose up while stalling and reducing flaps is not the right way to go. Good job Colgan air

  • Uh? NTSB blame both pilots...

  • Thank you tdonohue for this tribute. Even after nearly 3years the heartache is just as painful. The song, poem, photos - all help - may this help us to remember that just as a pilot can climb through a cloudy day to be surrounded by the shining sun , so we too can be comforted, loved and stregthened by God through His Son in these difficult times. Thanks - a former colgan pilot

  • I praise the up-loader of this video, even though it is very said. But it helps us to remember that those pilots were lovely people who had many friends and family and didnt want to go like that. Although the captain was heavily criticised for the crash, ultimately it was a sad accident. I am use to watching air crash and being really angry at the pilots due to their actions but when you watch a video like this it is hard to be angry, I just feel sadness for their families and friends.

  • I am a pilot in Europe and think this is a great tribute to lost friends.

  • I remind everyone, that youtube is open to everyone, and this video was made by someone who knew the crew, was either family or worked with them, hence...THE VIDEO! The family members of those who also perished besides the crew, can also use this space and make a video of their loved ones....

So for those who do not have anything good to say...have a little respect....and PLEASE SHUT UP!!!!!!!

  • Whats the song *

  • Whats that + rip to this colgan crew

  • This all started with deregulation. Thankyou Mr President!

  • @YeagerP51 So Bush is to blame? Ok, I got it! Wait it was Reagan..that's right, and Bush flew the planes in the WTC, and caused hurricane Katrina. I almost got the conspiracies mixed up, my bad.

  • Anyone who has been a pilot for any length of time knows that sooner or later, we all screw up. Pilots with far more experience than these have made fatal mistakes that cost them their lives. Some perish and some survive to tell another hangar tail. In this case, I say it was more an issue of "Corporate Error." All in the name of selling you cheap tickets. I would recommend you watch a documentary entitled "Flying Cheap." I'm very sorry for the loss of the flight crew and passengers.

  • It was a very nicely put together video. RIP Colgan air crew. As a pilot myself, it's sad to see anything like this happen. Whether it was pilot error or not, accidents like this are very unfortunate. Have some respect for the fellow pilots we've lost.

  • I have two cats!

One is named frosty the other is Orion!

  • If you have nothing good to say then at least shut up. I never flew with this airline, never met this crew but may their souls rest in peace. Surely, our heart goes out for those passangers who also perished in that tragedy but we do not know who they are. Our prayers are with their families also.

  • NTSB doc 417219

    No 1 engine-

    Powerplant Group field notes, pg2of23

-Three of the six counterweights remained attached to their respective propeller blade outer sleeve, while the other three had become separated and were not recovered by the Powerplant Group.

They weren't recovered because they came off before impact. Because the engine(s) were disintegrating long before impact. Like I says--mechanical failure, not pilot error.

  • Wait 5 crew died was the other pilot deadheading or something?

  • u realize the crew is the group responciable for the crash it was poor pioliting by a man that failed several flight tests and ended up with this airline

  • Once again, another group of comments calling the pilots dumb...etc. You tell me, how would you react in the situation? Scary for sure. Until you actually experience an emergency in the air, stop imputting on stuff like this. Too many people wanna play dress up pilot and voice their opinions. Don't, what happened has happened, were all human. Lets act like adults here. Remember the crew of 3407 as well as the passengers. RIP

  • I hate to see people here offending relatives of the people gone in this horrible crash. Even if the crew is to blame, they all didn´t want to die there. They paid the highest price. It is a great loss. All of them deserved to survive and come home safe. I´am realy sorry for them. So my prayers are going out to the crew, the passengers on board, the victim on the ground, every relative and friend of someone lost. May god bless you all ! R.I.P....

  • @AFewGoodPuppets what the fuck is wrong with you?

  • Comment removed

  • tdonohue, really sorry for your loss. We learn from it. Stay safe.

  • Save the argument comments for the NTSB video people! This is a memorial video. Condolences only.

  • i absolutely hate and despise how these regional companies to exploit in such terrible ways it's pilots; just because they need the experience, these carriers take advantage of young pilots and necessity. the FAA should do something productive for once and make sure that pilots are treated right and getting at descent livable salary.

  • Haven't seen a tribute before for pilots that died as a result of pilot error.

  • Have any of you watched ACI there have been many crashes where it was pilot error but a very proffesional crew Ex: bergainair, air florida 90. you should be sensitive about what you say especially for the familys of people of this flight who are watching.

  • Some of you should really shut up because you fail to realise that its not like the flight crew TRIED to crash the airplane, and because just like dgbaje said it could happen to you.

  • San Diego Charger fan!. How could I not be sad that we lost this pilot. RIP.

  • gayest song....EVER

  • Why don't people make video's for the people that died on there to not just the crew!!!!!!

  • @samfitzy8 I made the video as I was a flight attendant at the time. Its hard to gather pics of all of the passengers.

  • In this kind of situation..there is no blaming. Just pray for their souls. Flight 3407, Never Forget youu..still shocked..so close to home<3

  • I bet they did not think it was their time to meet God and step into eternity.

We think we have years ahead..... says who? Are you ready to meet Christ?

  • God bless them, each and every one of them.

  • The evidence shows that problems in the propeller control unit caused the upset, not pilot error. The eyewitnesses on the ground said the engines sounded like they were in trouble.

  • @starviego You nuts? Fatigue and unprofessionalism caused this. Flying on auto in icing, not prepared to deal with a routine situation. When you are about to stall you push the yoke forward, not pull it back. This is gross pilot error. Pay the RJ crews a bit better so they can afford apartments at their base. Please.

  • The song is "Angel's Wings" by Marisa.

    Man, I hate that.

  • When did this happen?

  • @japveen Heavy flight hours? First off, those flight hours mean diddly squat. Most of those flight hours are sitting on a chair doing nothing. I am more interested in flight hours that are giving or receiving instruction of some sort. Second, the NTSB officially blamed the captain for the crash, are you saying that there is nothing to blame on the flight crew? If a doctor cuts your Aorta by mistake and you die, is it not the fault of the doctor?

  • It just seems sad that the flight ended the way it did. The Training that pilots endure through their career is endless. I hope that others learn from this and make every effort to keep their dream of flying alive. There is no other job that could be as satifying and also challenging.

  • The pilots made a mistake...I do think Renslow was not on his game that night...and rebecca shaw was very tired.....all that said...it was an accident....accidents happen. Why can't people just let it go and chalk it up to an unfortunate accident?

  • NTSB determined that the probable cause of this accident was the captain’s inappropriate response to the activation of the stick shaker, which led to an aerodynamic stall from which the airplane did not recover.Contributing to the accident were (1) the flight crew’s failure to monitor airspeed in relation to the rising position of the lowspeed cue,(2) the flight crew’s failure to adhere to sterile cockpit procedures.50 died due to 2 inexperienced pilots that should never have been paired

  • So sad. Well done tribute.

  • This idea that pilot error should not be criticized by someone who is not a pilot is ridiculous. If the investigation reveals pilot error, then that is the fact. When a doctor makes a serious error in surgery and kills the patient, other doctors don't lash out at the public for blaming the doctor.

  • if i have to lie to get a job as a pilot then i will stay on the ground. lessons learned sometimes are hard and without pity.. i am sorry so many had to die because of one mans selfish act of wanting something so bad you would lie about it..

  • what's the name of this song and who sings it???

  • This captain was a poor excuse for a captain and killed a bunch of people as a result of the horrible practices of colgan airlines.

  • inexperience, incompetence, irresponsibility, lack of skills of the pilots. that was what caused the accident. I have more pity on passengers who were not to blame.

do not make mistakes nor give in to fatigue when transporting human lives.

  • @madlinux3 There are 2 main themes that combined to cause this accident: inexperience and fatigue. The insidious thing about fatigue is that it is not possible to "not give into fatigue". Fatigue is an aspect of flight operations that must be managed as a safety threat and the responsibility here lies with both Pilots and managers. Pilots must ensure that they take adequate rest. Management must ensure opportunity for rest-this extends to adequate pay so crew dont have to commute to work.

  • @madlinux3 And who the F... are you?! Incompetence? Irresponsibility? Do you even know what it takes to be a pilot? What a person has to go through to become a regional pilot? You don't know what the hell you're talking about.

    God rest all their souls.

  • Comment removed

  • We all make terrible mistakes some times. Some results are greatly magnified. These pilots need a union and proper wages and conditios and training. Rest in peace to the pilots, crew and passengers.

  • In the name of my falimy and I, our condolences. They were all beautiful people. All the best from Spain.

  • Nice tribute! Sad to see people used it to point fingers. This was not the place for that! It seems as if all those self righteous folks have never gone to work with very little sleep, and therefore DO NOT know the consequences lack of sleep. If you feel that is not a valid excuse then stop complaining about the cost of an airline ticket... For Christ Sake.... Who do you think is paying the price of having cheap airfares??? The airline crews who can't afford to live where they work out of,

  • My heart & prayers go out to their families. This was a beautiful way to remember them.

  • there are so many submissions and comments about this flight, some really nasty and thoughtless, that i'd like to make my response here.

i've listened to the atc record for almost an hour before the crash.....no one, not the tower, not another pilot with a pirep, no one mentioned icing at the altitude where it became deadly. the tower did inform other aircraft, but not 3407. having been a controller for a decade, i find that omission a glaring one that has been totally ignored. rest in peace..

  • all u people who comment saying bad shit about the pilot should fuck off. i mean cmon humans are human. we make mistakes. so dont say its all the pilots fault. God has a plan on how he wants the world to be. As sad as it is its just how life is. Anyways, u shouldnt talk bad about the dead.

  • the song makes it sadder.

  • My self and another pilot talked for a couple of hours about you guys today. Anyone on here who wants to make a negative comment should just keep it to themselves. If you are a pilot and make a negative comment I hope I never fly with you, because you are dangerous. The people flying this plane were humans with loved ones and family. Have some respect on here please! I hope if something ever happens with one of my flights that someone makes a tribute like this! Very well done!

  • @dankaberle I TOTALLY AGREE WITH U,SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST IGNORANT AND,MAY GOD BLESS ALL WHO PERISH ON THAT FLIGHT,I HAVE LOST MY SELF COUPLE AIR LINE PILOTS THAT I KNEW BUT,FLYING IS STILL SAFER THAN DRIVING!

  • Comment removed

  • A lot of people are making comments many of them not pilots, let alone airline pilots, let alone regional pilots...

The crew of this crash were victims of a system just like the paying passengers and non-rev crew member (as a airline pilot and commuter, I REALLY feel for that guy)

It's a result of $300 airfare, greedy airline investors, execs, and mainline pilots who are just "too good" to put regional pilots under their wing, ie...Union..YOU BLEW IT! NOT the young kid with amibitions.

  • This is heartbreaking to watch. All of us make mistakes at work...if you are a banker or a government official you can make a $B mistake that bankrupts a country & destroys the lives of millions...with no consequence. There were a number of factors in this tragedy. To post negative comments about the crew on this site does not help anyone, does not prevent re-occurrence. They were pilots, but they were also people...there was more to their lives than this accident. Pray for their families.

  • I know the captain was operating on low sleep, I know he was probably panicked, but...come on. HE OVERRODE A PIECE OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT THAT WAS DOING THE RIGHT THING, AND HIS ACTIONS DIRECTLY RESULTED IN THE DEATHS OF 50 PEOPLE. As cold as that sounds, it's the truth. Some will get mad reading this; others will call me heartless, cruel, etc. But the cold, hard truth is that this crash was caused DIRECTLY by pilot error. I weep for the 49 people who lost their lives because of one man's mistake.

  • All the captain would have had to have done was do what the stick shaker and pusher were telling him to do, and do what he (hopefully) had been trained to do in such a situation. Instead of following the established stall recovery procedure of adding full power and lowering the nose to break the stall, the captain only provided 75% power and kept trying to raise the nose, and when the stick pusher did its job of trying to push the nose down, he overrode it.

  • I feel HORRIBLE for the families/friends of the passengers and crew of Colgan 3407. With that said, there is a REASON the stick shaker and stick pusher exist, and that is to provide an UNMISTAKABLE warning to the captain that "your speed is WAY too low; do something" (stick shaker) and "you are about to stall out, push in full force NOW" (stick pusher).

  • condolence. :(

  • nothing wrong with Colgan or Continental, if a person had only 6 hours of sleep in 5 days, then that person should not have been flying a plane, I think we all know that.....no matter what ! the people flying that plane were in charge of their cargo and it was their duty to fly that plane and land it safely at it's destination, they failed to do this and to anyone with the "shit happens" attitude,...let me say this" not with airline pilots".........nobody wants to die;..........love to all......

  • This is the tribute people should be watching - the 50 people who are dead because of these two morons.

    youtube.com/watch?v=8_zlLRNe_sQ&feature=related

  • A terrible tragedy and a touching tribute. Sorry for your loss.

  • nice very nice well done

  • linnyjax- If what is alleged is true, the crew members have little to be respected for, as they did not have the respect for themselves or their precious cargo to use diligence and care in their handling.

  • Contributing to the accident were (1) the flight crew’s failure to monitor airspeed in relation to the rising position of the low-speed cue, (2) the flight crew failure to adhere to sterile cockpit procedures, (3) the captain’s failure to effectively manage the flight, and (4) Colgan Air’s inadequate procedures for airspeed selection and management during approaches in icing conditions.

  • God Bless...RIP.

  • Maintain thy airspeed lest the ground shall arise and smite thee.........

  • R I P to the pilots and flight crew.

  • These "Idiots" still had lives, friends, still had sons and daughters. They made a mistake. I dare anyone on here, to tell us all that they never made a mistake. Human beings are imperfect creatures that from time to time make mistakes that cause oils spills, that cause planes to crash into office towers, that cause traffic accidents. This video is a tribute to the 47 years and 24 years of both pilots by their families, not the 10 seconds of them making a mistake as judeged by us.

  • oh please...look at the tragedy these idiots caused......

  • @Stevens1892 Have some respect for them as human beings you peice of shit. How many hours do you have as PIC on any transport catagory aircraft? How many bad situations have you been in? We are all human and lose situational awareness. Let the first moron cast a stone and I will be there to retreive it and crack them on the head with it.

  • @Learjetjock ...Dude, I have 4,300 hrs. command time in Learjets with type in LR23/24, LR25, 1,200 as instructor as well as 200 hr. as test pilot in Sabres for North American Rockwell and I'm tellin' you this was amatuer hour. Saying that everyone can lose situational awareness is like saying everyone will land with the gear up at least once. Bullshit. Now, crack ME on the head with that stone!

  • My heart and condolences go out to the families of the flight crew and passengers of that ill-fated flight. Regardless of who is to blame for this tragedy, we need to be sensitive in our comments about this. The worst thing a pilot can do is criticize a fellow aviator because the same situation can befall him/her in the future.

  • Why are there 2 captains?

  • @Dmetrey437 there is usually not two captains on domestic flights... unless their is a standby or a jumpseat captain on standby. But that's normally on international flights

  • @Dmetrey437

I believe one of the captains was a passenger onboard the ill fated flight! Probably was a captain for Colgan Air!

  • Regardless who is at fault, we should still honor the dead and remember their loved ones the left behind. The Colgan Air crew had families, dreams and passions just like all of us. They didn't want to die. They, like the passengers and persons on the ground, also deserve to be remembered. The lives of those 50 people involved in this accident can never be brought back. This accident has forever scarred the lives of all of the loved ones close of those who perished.

  • why are they praising murderers? pure neglegence

  • @tenrail they are not murderers, also neglegence is spelled negligence

  • Very nice tribute. Wel done. Being a flight attendant myself my prayers go out to the family of the crew, the famly of all the passengers and the family of those who lost their lives while being truck on the ground from the fallen plane. May they all rest in peace. Can you tell me the name of that song andd who is singing it....it's very fitting as a tribute to that crew.

  • More evidence that mechanical problems were responsible:

from the buffalo news: (Erie County Executive Chris)Collins said that .... crew members had reported mechanical problems as they approached Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

from new jersey media ''....initial reports said the plane was held up due to mechanical problems'' (explaining why the plane took off two hours late from Newark)

  • Mistakes and screw-ups and the co-pilot screaming all the way to the ground.... that's just swell....I won't ride in a regional carrier again.

  • pg126 of 131 Melissa Wols She stated she heard the plane.... grinding and sputtering as it approached and passed over his residence. Wols advised it sounded similar to what grinding metal would sound like. pg129 of 131 Rita Zirnheld It ''sounded like sputtering'' and ''engine was coughing.''

  • pg106 of 131 Louis Vitello ...he heard the plane engines sputtering as it approached, and then heard a ''popping sound.'' Immediately after that Mr. Vitello heard ''grinding'' noised, stating that the noises reminded him of gears grinding together, sounding like the gears were missing teeth. pg124 of 131 David Wolf ...the engines were making an unusual ''shuttering'' sound

  • pg 102 of 131 Denise Trabucco Trabucco described the sound as a humming, similar to a transformer prior to it blowing. After the humming, Trabucco heard a popping sound. ... About a minute after the humming and popping sound, Trabucco and her family felt a vibration that felt a little like an earthquake.

  • pg85 of 131 Angela Pillo The sound was very loud and ''rough,'' as if the engine was having trouble. pg96 of 131 Kenneth Smith ...heard a big bag then continued to hear the sound of airplane engines. pg101 of 131 Rick Telfair

Telfair stated he then heard a winding or grinding noise, then a screeching or grinding noise and approximately 20-30 seconds later heard a large boom.

  • Comment removed

  • pg49 of 131 Mary Grefrath Grefrath recalled that the engine sounded like it was spuddering. pg66 of 131 Jean Larocque Larocque... stated he heard puttering plane... Larocque reported that the engines were not making a uniform sound. pg 77 of 131 Molly Merlo ...she heard the airplane make a ''gurgling'' sound. pg81 of 131 Marianne Neri The engine noise did not sound like a normal plane, but more like a helicopter. It was obvious something was wrong with the engines.

  • @starviego Yeah something was wrong. They where compressor stalling because the captain pushed them up to the stops when he stalled the airplane. Too bad he didn't push the nose down. Poor airmanship and poor flight discipline it was brought that plane down.

  • pg22 of 131 Patricia Burns Burns was able to see most of the left side of the airplane and noticed flames coming from the rear of the aircraft. pg42 of 131 Doug Errick Errick indicated that as the plane got closer the engines became very rough. Errick thought the engines were coming on and off, almost like engines were trying to come back on, but couldn't remain running. Errick thought the engines were changing RPMs rapidly.

  • pg13 of 131 Robert Bijak The engines sounded like a metallic rattle and remined Bijak of a car engine with no oil in it. pg14 of 131 Tin Bojarski The plane did not sound right and sort of sounded like a car with a broken muffler. pg17 of 131 Ronald Braunscheidel ...he heard a very loud spitting and sputtering sound of a plane engine flying overhead. Braunscheidel described the noise as a car without a muffler.

  • NTSB Dockets, File 431227--witness statements pg 4 of 131 Maha Abdallah Before the plane impacted the ground, Abdallah noticed sparks coming from the plane. pg8 of 131 Kristen and Aaron Archambeault They both described the engine noise as ''sputtering' pg11 of 131 Michele Beiter Michele stated the noise, 'skipped' .. and then it started again. Michel is positive there was a skip. Michele further described everthing she heard as, 'Noise, skip, noise, loud noise.'

  • The plane went down due to mechanical problems. A whole slew of witnesses on the ground heard the plane, and said it was in trouble. The whole 'pilot error' crap was just to save the airline.

  • @starviego How do you manage breath with your head inserted rectally?

The NTSB cranked out a very complete investigation whose results were made immediately available public. Plus, how do you manage to hermetically seal yourself so completely from all that has been independently published re: this most unfortunate accident?! Actually anyone can avoid the truth about anything they wish. But, make public your ignorance.............then you get what you deserve.........ridicule. Shut the F- up !!

  • Unfortunately there were no mechanical failures prior to impact. This was pilot error... Those unusual sounds they heard most likely were do in part to the stalled spinning aircraft with both engines operating at a very high RPM. For whatever reason both crew members did not notice their decaying airspeed which lead (due in part to icing) an aerodynamic stall. Captain Renslow unfortunately pitched the nose of the plane up when he should have lowered it to gain speed. They were too low to recover

  • I am sure they were great people and it is unfortunate that this all happened but it was in fact pilot error. Everyones human. What a loss :/

  • @starviego Unfortunately for you but fortunately for the rest of us, this airplane had a CVR and FDR. Those noises heard, if heard at all, where of a couple of engines that where exceeding every limitation in the book. You firewall a turbine engine, especially with no airflow because it is aerodynamically stalled, you are going to hear, see and smell a lot of things, none of which are good. I am sure that both of those engines where compressor stalling all the way down, which is pilot induced.

  • The public should REFUSE to fly on any regional airliner. They should not be subjected to a flight training exercise.

  • This is what happens when you put INEXPERIENCE at the controls. You can train the mechanical skills of flying --- but you can't train experience.

  • Any piolt who doesn't realize his decending rate & a copilot who says:

"I never even de-iced before, I would think like, if I saw this much ice, were like gonna crash"

Should not be behind the controls, I know these airline bastards are trying to save money at paseenger's lives expense, but if I were a pilot in training I would tell those sons of bitches I'm not ready yet instead of hopping in behind the controls anyway risking others lives as well as my own. WTF!

So easy to judge since they are not here to defend their honor isn't?

You have NO idea of what really happened other than what the media spoon fed you! RIP 3407 Crew and passengers alike! May the families of the lost find strength! To the " youtube judges" : "get a life" !

  • Comment removed

  • @linnyjax cmon dude, that's fucking low you pig. they're humans, they make mistakes. Colgan was pushing them beyond the limit, terrible training and excessive hours lead to this.

  • @linnyjax hey, captain retard, have you ever had surgery under local anesthesia (You probably don't know what it is cuz ur a dumb ass, basically they just numb the spot they operate on)? The surgeon talks about random shit with the nurse, why? To relax the person who is being cut open.

and your right, the pilots should have done better. however, it happened, and it will happen again, until computers start flying. Now fuck off back to special ed.

  • Comment removed

  • @linnyjax No no no, we >WERE< as in past tense, talking about flying, then, a retarded fourth grader decided to log onto his special ed teacher's computer and talk about surgeons. Of course, I had to go along with it... I mean, what am I supposed to do? Correct a retarded fourth grader?

  • Comment removed

  • @linnyjax I actually plan on getting a job in the field of aviation, not Mickey D's, although, since you've been promoted to chief dip-shit - maybe I can get a recommendation from you?

  • @linnyjax Why dont you show some respect. i mean feel free to voice your opinion but not on this video. This is a tribute to our fallen crew members.. We lost a part of our family. Yes a tribute to the passengers would be great. How about instead of shooting your mouth off, you get to work on that. Enough said. To the crew: May you rest in peace. We love you and miss you.

  • Comment removed

  • @linnyjax

I hope your not flying any type of airplane at all. You don't deserve it. I personally knew Rebecca Shaw, and calling her and the crew incompetent is disgusting.

Why don't you look at this as a industry wide wake up.

You are NOT a true professional aviator my friend. so don't go around pretending to be all high and mighty.

and if you do fly, I ask what? do you work for an airline? are you typed rated? whats your experience level? Hours?

What gives you the right .

  • Comment removed

  • @ddolla Fact of the matter is, 50 people are dead because of these two idiots. Was she incompetent? Abso-flipping-lutely. Which one was more incompetent than the other is a matter of debate, but these two people cost 50 others their lives, solely for the fact that they weren't paying attention to what was going on. The people around here who are not professional aviators are these two. This has nothing to do with an industry-wide wakeup. You are taught to monitor airspeed as a student pilot.

  • Ahaitiano1982;

This was unadulterated incompetence at it's worst. The pilot pulled back on the stick when he should have pushed forward. CVR revealed that the pilot and F.O. were chattering, and not focused upon their tasks at hand.

  • @haitiano1982 Huh? Training is limited? You learn to monitor airspeed as a student pilot. You didn't have to be lucky at all to get out of this. First of all, PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR AIRSPEED, then you won't get into it to begin with, but second of all, if you do, DON'T PULL THE NOSE UP. That's the OPPOSITE of what you do to recover from a stall. They didn't do "some stuff" wrong, they did EVERYTHING WRONG.

  • @mr3856a i'd like to see how you react to a very stressful situation, with only what like 6 hours of sleep a night for the last 5 days, after several long commuting journeys, when its pitch black outside, in the middle of a snow storm, above powerlines and homes, under the clouds and turbulence, knowing you're in a very congested airspace on approach to Buffalo with the threat of ice buildup, and other factors.

they had to do this on the spot, when only seconds were counted.

  • @Sharod101 All completely irrelevant. They were ATP-rated pilots; safety was supposed to be their #1 priority. If at any time they felt for any reason that they could not carry out the flight safely, it was the captain's responsibility as pilot-in-command to either cancel the flight or divert to another airport. Fifty people died because these two failed to exercise basic airmanship. They were paying no attention whatsoever to what the plane was doing, and it cost 50 people their lives.

  • @mr3856aits not their faults if Colgan puts pressure on the pilots, it's not just their responsibility, it was Colgan's. you can't call em out like that, guess what theres thousands of planes in the air at any given moment, and thousands happen everyday, and theres going to be an errors every now n then, instead of being a dumshit about this, how about you give your honors to those who died, rather then try to prove the pilots were incapable of being decisive. shit happens and they're only human

  • @Sharod101 .....snow storm, pitch black outside, power lines, homes, under the clouds and turbulence, congested airspace and threat of ice build up.......and other factors ?........the Q400 is designed to cope with all these situations......in the hands of capable aviators.....

  • @ArzeHoole than again, anyone who's been working on long 16 hour duty days, barely making ends meet, and tired from commuting is subject to a mistake. you can't blame the pilots for being under stress. happens to even the best. you can't prevent their stresses.

what could've been prevented was the additional stress Colgan puts on there pilots to sacrifice safety for money. i respect these pilots, and i wouldn't call them bad aviators because they couldn't save their plane.

  • Yeah I'm liking this, a tribute to incompetence.

  • tampaslice, your very right they do,but actually they talk to much and forgot about the knots on the aircraft come on,I mean when I saw that,I really got mad, well pilot's go to training simulators to practice their skills this pilot didnt In my opinion because of their chat souls died, and everything in aproach really see this video get's me mad, because the pilots did a very big error on talking with each others and forget about the plane.not cool

  • I want to see a little gray hairs on the Captain that signifys maturity and aviation experience versus a lesser experienced college straight to the airlines type of flyer who has become all too common today..

  • Every crew talks and chats, if these pilots are considered incompetent because they talked for 55 minutes then you better not ever fly again on any commercial carrier because they all do it! Since they crashed we were able to hear the chit chat on the recorder, the thousands of other crews that break the rules daily don't crash so their chit chat gets recorded over. If you think the pilot of the plane you're on isn't doing the same as this crew then you're a fucking idiotic moron!!

  • These two had no business operating an aircraft with passangers onboard. They are on final approach in iceing conditions and are talking dumb shit while the aircraft flys away from them.

  • Pay the pilots 50-60k (starting salary) with transit accomodation and sick days for a start...Train the pilots better and don't make them work over 45-50 hours/wk at any given time.

Increase the salary 2-3% every year if they perform satisfactorily. (an incentive to take pride in the career - they are not bus drivers).

If the regional airline mofos followed this really simple rule, pilots would be happy, passengers would be safer and everything will change.

  • Amen

  • I guess the @#%@ copyright police are at it again. It's high time we repeal the Millenium Copyright Act and replace it with something that's fair and reasonable and not reflective of corporate tyranny (e.g. WMG etc.).

Sorry for the rant, but I was looking forward to listening to the tribute as well as watching it. What possible purpose does it serve WMG to remove it??

  • As a collegue from A320 ( first officer) my prayers are with them.

  • The one that Ithink about the most is when a plane crash is the crew first don't get me wrong I think of the passengers as well but begin a flightattendant too I know what they are trying to do to get that plane down safley. My heart and Prayers goes to this fine crew and passengers and may gob help the family in this time of storm to the crew SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND FLY R I P

  • Thanks man, well done and appreciated. A brother from the USAirways family.

  • Well done tribute! R.I.P. passengers and crew
