Ive got Holdsworth's greatest hits album. I think the "Low Levels, High Stakes" song has the fastest, most impressive guitar wanking Ive ever heard. That solo lasts a while too, an its hard to imagine playing fast for that length of time. Its really an exhilirating piece of music.
Holdsworth lifts off instead of pulling off. It's a subtle difference but your pitch accuracy will be greater by doing so. Pulling off, especially if done exuberantly can result in your pulled-off note warbling. Holdsworth referred to it as "cats meowing".
Sometimes. can damp string wih index finger, hammer on with 4th, third and second fingers and pick the notes played with index if that makes sense. I think he uses only hammer ons some but not all the time.
that low levels one is basic scales but most of his stuff uses scales beyond whole tone, diminished, mjor and melodic minor. His REH video explains some of what he uses
I dabble with guitar. Living away from home for a couple of months and no guitar. Got technique to play quite a lot of his lines but not all. Which fro IOU live??
I don't know why, but never liked holdsworth's style.

Thanks for sharing.. Very brave man taking this solo on! But well done. Have you managed to transcribe any/all the solo?
