  • thank you i used to watch this in nz as a child 31 now and thanks to you enjoying each night with my 3 year old son

  • You can keep thomas the tank we loves ivoe we do like butty .

  • Idris is ace, I love the way he has one foot up just like on the Welsh flag. "Do you know Land Of My Fathars" (trying to type a Welsh accent). I love Welsh dragons.

  • That Dragon might be radioactive!

  • fantastic! Reading Oliver Postgates book "Seeing things" autobiography which is an excellent read thanks for posting...

  • i love it when ivor sings, its so beutifull

  • Boy the townsfolk seem to take that dragon pretty well, instead of an "oooohhhh" or an "aaahhh!!! theres a dragon in the train" o.o;

  • @trainboy7 and the train is singing in choir, f**k logic

  • @dambusta2 not to mention its the only train on the railway which is self explanitory caus ethe railway isn't that big or important

  • Come ladies and gentlemen Land of my Fathers ... if you please !

    ; )

  • Brings tears to my eyes. I bloody love Idris :-)

  • Excuse the pun, but this is very MOVING!

  • How Lovely are these Timeless Episodes. I grew Up with 'Ivor The Enguine' and Love everyone of them.

    Thanks for this Posting.

  • I'm 17 next week and none of my friends know what the hell I'm talking about when I mention Ivor The Engine! Any ideas why this might be. I remember watching this when I was REALLY young, but maybe I had it on VHS. I dunno.

  • @borntoplaybass Likewise! I was brought up with it whereas I never knew anyone else my own age who knew about Ivor!

  • @borntoplaybass I'm 15 and I've got it on VHS...xD I love it...and my friends don't get it either xD

  • 1:19 "Rrrround as a Rrrrugby football"

    So that'd be oval, then.

  • "not one of your lumping great fairytale dragons but a small trim heraldic Welsh dragons" Wahat a classic line.........

  • just saying he is a trian driver not a post man if all trian drivers base there jobs on this no wonder there is always delays

  • Love Ivor the Engine. Bit worried about the accent of the Draig Goch though! Where does he come from? New Delhi?

  • This is my favourite episode!!!! Thank you for posting this. I've not seen this in ages!

  • Funny how this episode is based on an Icelandic volcano and one blew up recently :p

  • don't you mean ivor the ENGINE

  • @OrchardFairy

    Typo.

  • Did they ever record this in Welsh?

  • I always wanted to know what was the song at 2:58 .

  • It's a pity you don't see video's of this, I loved when I was a child, and I still do,

  • when did this show come out

  • @az091859 the first one cam out in 1958 l think

  • This was the first episode that i remember in any detail - loved that little dragon almost as much as Ivor. - and I love Wales too, esp North Wales - tis where i am fortunate enough to live.

  • Idris! \o/

  • Awesome.

  • Ah, yes, we all like Idris the Dragon. This is very nice and I do like Wales. In fact, when I die, I want to be cremated and have my ashes spread there. Ok, a bit extreme but I really, really, really like Wales.

  • They don't make them like this any more, which is a shame. It's a same they don't repeat these classic shows like they did when I was growing up (I'm only 18 lol)

  • I actually remember this episode!

  • So do I

  • What is the first song they sing in the choir before "Land of my Fathers?"

  • It sounded like Bread of Heaven

  • YAAAAY IDRIS!!!

  • I'd have loved to have been Oliver Postage or Peter Fermin's grandchild. Think of all the great stories they would tell.

The only piece of sanity left is listening to their tales for 5 mins. A thousand thanks for up loading

  • Idris! God bless Oliver Postgate! XD

Frankly, and I say this in all seriousness, I am an Atheist but I hope there is a heaven simply so kindhearted people like Postgate get their just rewards for touching so many.

  • Makes Thomas the Tank Engine look like a pussy. Rock on Ivor!

  • Well said my friend, XD

  • I might be useful if the title of the video were changed from enging to engine.

  • God bless you Oliver Postgate, and thankyou Bungalow for putting this video up. I named my cat Idris after the dragon in this series.

  • Does anyone know who provided Idris with his singing voice? It's beautiful.

PS Yesterday after we heard the sad news of oliver potgate's death, my colleagues & I were all racking our brains to remember the dragon's name. Wikipedia to the rescue!

  • I love idris, "Do you know Land of my Fathers?"

  • What is the song at 3'00" when Idris appears? Anyone?

Loving the cod Welsh accents! Mr. Dinwiddy gets extra points, though - hilarious!!!

"I don't know what it is!"

  • Lol, I agree totally!

Dinwiddy's line about "I know, I've read books, I am educated!" is one of my favourites in Ivor the Engine! Makes me chuckle every time! :)

  • Others have said it, but isn't it strange how these animations are so moving.

  • soundzok, I think it is because thy were made with love and a thought for their audience... not for a quick buck and to sell toys, like a lot of the modern stuff.

  • What's the song that the choir sings before Idris makes his appearance?

  • That's so beautiful. I remembered the dragon hatching in the boiler, but no the choir practice. It was lovely and oddly moving. How weird in a four and half minute children's cartoon. They really don't make anything of this quality now.

  • I still secretly like to think that if I search the mountains of wales, ( I think it would be in the berwins somewhere) that there would be a "lost" one with a crater and a small wisp of smoke........

  • Of course it should have Been Olwen GRIFFITHS noy Jones (apologies to all concened

  • aint no secret thought no more..........

  • I Actually read part of Oliver Postgate's Autobiography, and he was saying about this that when it came to recording the singing, he wasn't sure how they were supposed to do it, but Olwen Jones said she knew of a small Welsh Choir in Hampstead which still sang, so they contacted them and they happily agreed to be recorded singing among other things "Mae Haen Wlad Fy Nhadau"

  • I think Idris' entrance here and when they sing 'land of my Fathers' is really special

  • I like this episode, cause this is an other prove that dragons are NOT evil.

  • Cold walk back from school made better with a cup of hot chocolate, a plate of biscuits and Ivor the engine watched with my nose 3"s from the TV...ace.

  • I loved Ivor the engine after school with a cup of tea and a digestive - Sooo brilliant - thanks

  • How fantastic...took me right back! Also helped settle an argument between my husband and I, I was sure Idris spoke but he said not...I won!

  • Amazing! As a young lad I sounded just like Idris when I was in Bangor cathedral choir in N. Wales.

Did you know that the welsh accents aren't actually from welsh people but the creators themselves!

  • lick!

  • Just back from a weeks holiday round Snowdonia. I've travelled on The Festiniog railway twice now, first time 8 years ago. My inspiration for going was always this cartoon. Great memories.

  • i feal so welsh 2nite thank u from pontypridd truly land of my fathers xxx

  • There is a mountain in north wales called Gadair Idris which literaly translated means Idris' chair named after a giant in welsh mythology called idris

  • haha brilliant

  • I was wondering, does anyone know the title of the peice of music sung before "Land of my Fathers"? Many thanks for uploading these.. they are quite wonderful...

    RKBJMTH

  • Oh you're officially my favourite youtuber ever :D

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! I think they should have a Nostalgic Hour on CBeebies. Marvellous!

  • My dad loves idris like he does all dragons

  • Idris the dragon! Odd how things come back to you...

  • "Do you know 'Land of My Fathers'?" LOL

  • Absolutly brilliant. thankyou so much for posting it. you have made a 40 something very happy.

  • I love this episode, it's a shame you don't see it on Tv any more. Idris is fantastic.

  • My cat was named Idris after the dragon from this programme :-)

  • Cool, I have an Idris soft toy from Harbour Station in Porthmadog N. Wales.

  • I remember watching this as a kid, of course I only saw it on repeat. Thanks for putting them up.
