I am reading W.A. Criswwell's autobiography, which is called Standing on the

Promises. It is one of the best books I've ever read. I've wept through parts and laughed in others. It's an older book, published in 1990. I got mine used through Amazon. If you get a chance, read it.

W.A. Criswell was a great preacher. A great American. There are those who say bad things about preachers just because they can.  To those who say those "bad things", we should just ignore them. They're harmless and uninformed. In fact, by listening to the Gospel they may get saved and then we can call them "Brother" and "Sister" in Christ.

He was unique. Sincere, astute, simple. I would bring juvenile delinquents from the Dallas Youth Village on Wednesday nights and Dr. Criswell would greet them, wrap his arms around them, look them in the eye, listen to them - and they loved him (BTW-most were black kids). They respected him, listened to every syllable that flowed from his mouth, and asked me about him constantly. If he was the designated speaker for the night, they would fight (almost) to be 1 of the 10 who could go see him.

Where have all the preachers gone? Dr. Criswell is the last of the great preachers. Today's preachers share a message that is "so watered" down from the past. When was the last time you heard a verse by verse exposition of God's Word with the Cross of Calvary preached?

I'm so proud to have had Dr. Criswell as my pastor for over 40 yrs. He was truly a man of God. He was a old-time preacher.  I also loved that grand old church in Dallas, which is going to be torn down. The present preacher of that church whats (his dream) to be a church that, in my opinion, looks like a New Age travesty! I won't ever go there again. Not with Dr. Jeffrress. I'll pray for him, but I cannot support what he is doing now.

Oh, how I miss Dr. Criswell!!!
