I am a vetran wow player and honestly LOTRO gives me the same framerate as Wow, but with the highest settings cranked, and the gameplay doesnt suffer at all. The game engine is much better than wow's mainly because its newer. Now come cataclysm if wow had scrapped the old game and updated the engine to a new system, they might be able to beat LOTRO in ratings.

I still play WoW but after playing LOTRO for my 10 day trial I am so temped to jump ship.

Your right it was 'The Silmarillion' they are the prequels of Lord Of The Rings and how middle earth came about etc... But yeah there are a number of Balrogs, but i think the one in the film was called 'Flame of Udun' Because 'Flame' means Firery demon or something and 'Udun' was a dark city ruled over by the early Dark lord 'Morgoth' hence when they went to the elves after the Mines, (dunno the name of the elf) asked that he wanted to talk to Gandalf, then Legolas said 'The Balrog of Morgoth'..

As someone who was highyl addicted to WoW and would have a hard time adjusting to other games, LotRO is definately a compareable game and the best alternative in my opinion... though if you're looking for a free MMO I would have to say Perfect World International is an amazing F2p MMO.

How long is a piece of string? The age old answer is: it depends. Each class is fun and cool in its own way and it depends on whether you enjoy melee class vs ranged, etc. None are better than others just depends on your own preferences.

Hunters cannot use heavy armor and mainly rely on ranged skills (of course) they can solo, but not for long. Champions do not have as much ranged possibilities. Think of champions as a sort of Warrior class. THey can dual wield weapons, and their focus is DPS (damage per second). Hunters and Champions are good classes to use if you are starting out on LotRO, tho other people like other classes. I started out with a guardian. Huge melee capability, but nearly no ranged skills.

LOTRO can amuse hardcore players as well as casual players.

You have more mature ppl playing LOTRO (and Im not talking about age here)

You have more "class uniqueness" and "group role" in LOTRO (this is an heavy issue in most games, worth endlesly discussion).

Classes are BALANCED. I would change RKs just a bit but even they arent that unbalanced.

RPG concepts, LOTR concepts and fantasy-genre concepts are very real in this game, making it a MUST if you like "hard-fantasy" genre like me.

Age of Conan? hahaah. That game sucked so much. It was fun to explore and level, but the game was so incredibly broken and people exploited and got full tier 1 epic items very fast... I stopped playing because it was boring as hell due to having nothing to do... there was close to 0 content once you hit 80. Never going back to that game ever again, it was too much like WoW.

Please keep in mind people that when you do not intend to get into hardcore raiding and life-consuming grinds, LotRo is still your best bet for just having a fun time while exploring Middle-Earth and doing quests. That's what Blizzard did correctly, though. The 'painted' textures allowed for the best looking graphics with the lowest hardware demands. It also made the world blend better than many 'photo-realistic' textured games do. Anyway, there are many aspects to the visual aesthetics in a game and I would say both WoW and LotRO could stand to be improved by the qualities of the other.
