  • love this song

  • My late granny sang this song.thank you the pogues fir making a beautiful version, also loved Cait singing it on straight to he'll soundtrack

  • genius rendition

  • Very good version !

  • perfect by the pogues

  • Merveilleux, émouvant, from Toulouse, France. Vivent les Pogues! J'ai un setter irlandais, j' aime la Guiness, et mon joueur de rugby favori de tous les temps est Keith Wood! Vive l' Irlande et continue de nous faire pleurer, Danny Boy.

  • God bless my nephew Danny--such a beautifull young man, in his prime

  • Those that dislike this must have no soul.

  • peu importe d'où il vient, il a bon esprit et sa musique est bonne.

  • A little correction: This great version is performed by Shane MacGowan & The Popes, not The Pogues, and appears on the Shane MacGowan & The Popes' album "The Rare Oul' Stuff".

  • This is the best version of this song that i´ve ever heard and i have heard many.... Shane my man you´ll live forever

  • Now I'm born-raised Irish, but I haven't a slight fuck against anyone else on the planet. Save the French. Fucking hate the French.

  • I was born in England

    I was born English

I am PROUD to be English

I was born with Irish descendants

I was born with Scottish descendants

I am English I am proud to be English

I am also PROUD of my DESCENDANTS

I am ALSO PROUD of the Irish and Scottish blood that flows through my veins

With no hatred for other races or creeds

  • Thats the best ive heard shane mcgowan sing

  • I love the song but Im sorry this isnt a great version IMO

  • SO GOOD IT BRINGS TEARS TO ME..

    THANK YOU

  • Love the Pogues and the song

  • i used to play "o' danny boy" on my little kid oriented keyboard, THIS is sooooo much better with lyrics haha :p but seriously, this is the best version of this old folk song i've ever heard.

  • love it. shane's voice is great, and that drum beat is fantastic too!

  • 30 fucking morons pressed dislike and one was Welsh

  • I found the Pogues when I typed "Go Down In The Mud" from a Subaru TV ad. It made me stop in my tracks because those little soccer kid passed out in the back of the SUV matched perfectly to this song. Like this too. CraZygalmusic

  • perfect song... i simply love every version, and this one is quite good, no matter what you, people, say...

  • poor version,and thats from a pogues fan !!

  • @Buckfest999 ah listen to the emotion in his voice. he's no Celtic Woman with a sweet voice, but the emotion is what matters.

  • Shane, like most English people who are drunk, thinks he is Irish. Nothing wrong with that! But Kilburn is not Gallway!

  • @sionnyn Your comment is moronic you are a stupid prick. Do you know nothing about the man. How could he possibly do what he did if he was english you incredibly stupid fuck.

  • @22grena McGowan is of Irish descendence, but grew up in England. He is technically English, although he identifies as Irish.

  • @pwgabachito What do you mean of Irish 'Descendence' firstly that's a made up word secondly it's implying that his great granddad or something was irish like when yanks call themself Irish despite being born in Boston or New York and never having seen Ireland in their whole lives, his parents were Irish and I think he did spend some of his childhood in Ireland.

  • @gremlinfeatures "Descendence" is a variation of "descendance", meaning of a particular ancestor. That's according to Merriam Webster. I don't deny his defining himself as Irish, I was just defending another post that pointed out that by nationality, he was born English, spent some time in Ireland, but then grew up most of his formative years in England. I did not mean to disparage Mr McGowan, nor his claim to his heritage. If that's how it seemed, please forgive me.

  • @pwgabachito ha mcgowan he,s irish i know him

  • i sing this to my cousin danny lol

  • They suck balls! This is not a fast paced song, and shouldn't be made into one either.

  • he sounds drunkOo

  • @WhiteChocolate0o He always sounds drunk. Can't think why...

  • Danny Boy was written by an English lawyer. Not a very enjoyable version. Sorry.

  • Good music, Osi-yo from a Cherokee Irish

  • fuck the english

  • Shane might not be pretty, but he is real, and that is what I like about him, and his songs. I am Scottish, with an Irish background, I worked in Scotland, and Ireland, which was a good part of my life. I am part Irish, and part Scottish, I think that's where my bright blue eyes come from, that my Canadian wife loves!

  • Hate to break it to you, but this is Shane and the Popes. Not Pogues. Not saying it's any better or worse, but get it straight.

  • 6DaM6ioN6: on Wikipedia is written a list with all versions of this song, and on which albums they are recorded.

  • I'm trying to find out what album this song is on can anyone help me out pls

I am putting together a slideshow for my friends grandmothers funeral

  • me too...xxx

  • This song was on Courage The Cowardly Dog episode - The Magic Tree of Nowhere! What an awsome show!

  • who cares where he was born, hes a true irish man n we love him

  • lól_î_fëËl_s0_lõñEly_tÒÐAy

  • this has balls

  • no, this everlasting n beautiful song should only be sung by a singer

  • @gasmeter1947 There aren't many more natural singers than Shane McGowan. I don't think the man who wrote this song wrote it for Pavarotti. This is a very organic natural song at its core.

  • This song has been part of me as long as i can remember. It IS SAD.....but, love lives forever . The two greatest loves in my life are Dannys.....one has a blood disorder, and a great Blues player. The other, also a great songwriter, singer, piano and guitar

player. I am of Irish blood. Sometimes, it is hard for me to hear, but this one is something special, musically, and i love the vocal. Heart rendering. happy St. Pats !

  • I too have had me thoughts and message eliminated, yet the bloody blokes sit back and push that button. I saw me post make it yesterday. Shane, remember the "Brick Wall"song. Maybe it was best we didn't. See you soon Danny As I promised all will still be O.K.

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • The dislike option should be eliminated at once. It's just depressing.

  • @Davotheledge eliminate the like, dislike and comments too :)

  • Heart-breaking beauty.

  • I don't think I actually ever heard this song or saw the lyrics, but it feels familiar and nice. Like nostalgic, because I think of how the song is, and how they're singing, it's easy to feel the feelings of the song. ^.^

    Thank you for uploading it!

  • Wow. Good stuff. Given Shane's notorious self-destructive behavior and intoxicated performances, it's great to hear Shane in such good form.

  • written by a father for his son who went off to war.WWI

  • @irelandsnumber1 bless you xx

  • Shane just has such an honest voice. It is what it is, nothing pretentious about it. The raw natural emotion makes him one of my favorite singers.

  • @h8erman agree with you totally x

  • I think Irish guys have the edge when it comes to this song !! - Well done Shane

  • another one of great songs, the voice of this 100-years?? old man ,great !!!

  • This isnt the pogues its shane macgowan and the popes

  • but it's pretty hard to compete with cash anyway

  • Comment removed

  • still prefer johnny cash's rendition over this one..... that one's great too though :-)

  • @AlexAirwave182 The 1st time I ever heard "Danny boy" it was sung by Johnny Cash. I can still imagine his voice in my mind. He was a man that too much BS was flung round about him yet in all the things I've read & heard he still kept a secret goodness about him that wouldn't let anger overcome him. May he sing in God's peace.

  • my favorite drinking song ever

  • Wow! an awesome version of Danny Boy. McGowan is a genius.

An awesome talent, Makes you proud to be Irish...

  • @MusicMadGuy2010 y its an english song

  • @Foolishk1ng The lyric were written by an Englishman, but unless I'm much mistaken, I believe it's based on an old Irish tune.

  • @Foolishk1ng Why make a statement that you

  • @Foolishk1ng the lyrics were written by an english man but its an irish tune done in an irish style therefore an irish song shane macgowen to was born in england but hes playing irish music not english music so shut the fuck up you mong

  • So laid back. Not only only in rythm but in singing. I love this!

  • Oh man this version is soooo cool!!!!

  • The lyrics to "Danny Boy" were written by the English lawyer and lyricist Frederick Weatherly in 1910.

  • rOB o'cONNER

  • Done in fine Pogues style. Try this one too: Military Tribute Danny Boy sung by Michael Littwin

  • Heroes of my youth!!!!!!

  • great irish song :)

  • RIP KP5000 may she rest in eternal peace

  • arrr happy st.paddy's day Mr.Mcgowan

  • I've gotta say that I'm a bit of a mutt. Irish, German, English, Italian, Cherokee, Black Foot, Scottish. My mom's proud of her Cherokee nationality, but if you ask me Irish is what I'm most proud to be! Hell, I'd love to be full blooded and living in Ireland!

  • @Twilightfey Great background ancestry. The pity is that half the Irish that are in Ireland now would like to get out of it, though not me.

  • Isn't it ironic this most Irish of Irish songs was written by an English lawyer? This is my favorite version.

  • home grown irish right here i miss you grandpa <3

  • only the irish can have such a song that just means so much and has so much heritage pouring out of it in one song

  • only the irish have such a rich history that everyone is actually proud of

  • Dopo due (va be', facciamo tre) secondi avevo deciso: questa è la più bella versione di "Danny boy" mai sentita.

  • quoto

  • @colubao no parla italiano ma io ok do you understand? éva

  • RIP Ursula.

  • Is that JFK in the background?

    Irish pride.

  • yes... 100% irish pride

  • i want this on my funeral......

  • it was actually at my grandfathers funeral and it was beutiful to see him go into his final resting place with this song playing along with you i want this played at mine also

  • an irish tenor sang this at my mother's funeral. it was the first secular (non-religious) song ever sung in her 100+ year old church (episcopalian / church of england). she was conceived in county dublin, born in texas. she was a feiry red-headed high school history teacher who succombed to her third recorrence of brain cancer. she was a brave warrior who fought every day of her life & is now at peace. love you, mom.

  • so do I

  • @dunc9 me too but only from the Pogues!

  • What version of Red Roses For Me is this on? I have the original UK pressing and the Canadian and neither have it.

  • Shane McGowan & The Popes

    Christmas Party E.P.

so technically it's not even by the pogues ;)

  • The Pogues are so good.

  • lol i make fun with my friend daniel i keep calling him danny boy and he hates it lmao

  • i love being called danny boy

  • do you lol

  • What a great song, and the interpretation of the pogues are magnificent.

In the sense of classic interpretation, you need to hear the version of Paul Robeson

  • I was expecting them to send the song up, but they did the opposite instead. Well done lads.

  • Just watched them live in Seattle last week. The Pogues!!

  • greetings from germany.

    ireland up!

  • everyone whos complaing about this song, dont listen to it simple ini?

yes people have diffrent opinions but that dosent mean you have to share them (:

  • Wonderfull :)

    Makes me cry every time

  • Td ceol desna nithe a tharlaionn ar an gceol is aille sa domhan!!!

  • i think this would be better without the drums

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS? i love the drums in this

  • shit version

  • My great great granda...

Robert MacMannus Pipkin would be proud.

  • Ha your great great grandad probably died before the lyrics to this song were written... it's only about 100 years old. but the melody is very old. also the lyrics were written by an englishman. great song.

  • beautiful, beautiful song.

  • Excellent!!!

    Grandma mary

  • Beautiful song. Irish music brings all of our Irish generations togther. My sainted great grandmother from County Longford would love this.

  • this song makes me think :/

but i like it tho :]

  • of coure it's shane. He is sober sometimes you know. and when he is his voice is AWESOME. I think when he slurrs TOO much it spoils it but a little just makes it funny ;)

  • i know it is not the pogues & that it is actually Shane with the Popes; but I want to know if that is really Shane singing

    the lyrics????????

  • yeah it is!

  • Go raibh maith agat!

  • An amhrán, Níor chuala me le tamall é, ach fós tá sé chomh iontach is a bhí sé ariamh!

  • beautiful beautiful song :)

  • Best use of this song is in trainspotting, by irvine welsh. Fuckin genius. Read the book, kicks the films arse. Amazing song

  • ,you might look at the Millers crossing film at that danny boy part I had to watch that 6 times...........

  • not the Pogues, its Shane with the POPES from a christmas EP they made in the Nineties

  • I know, I just chose it because its a nice cover and titled it the Pogues cuz most people don't know about the Popes. Thanks for the comment though. :D

  • @Loewe68 There is an infinitely better version of this by The Pogues on the box set. A briliant " Red roses for me " era version. Before the self destruction Shane really was a fine singer, great tone and expression, very natural. Danny boy was a favourite of my dad's and I love the Pogues version it.

  • @Loewe68 Shane is The pogue!

  • Finally a version of Danny boy that I can sing as an alto!

  • This is dedicated to my brother Dan who passed away on Monday...You beat me in the race again.

You have gone to see Jesus before me. My heart breaks that my baby brother is gone from me.

    I love you...your big sis...

  • sincerest condolences. This song brings me a lot of peace, and a tear every time.

  • @Whitedovie

Sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. Thankfully there will be a resurrection day one day.

  • Want this played at my funeral Best version of this song ever!

  • love this version. i will get to ireland someday soon, i hope.

  • Man, I wish I could have stayed in Ireland when I was little instead of moving to America. I'd have an Irish accent and everyhting right now :( I'm 100% Irish, if I moved back again, could I eventually get an accent?

  • over time you would, yes, it would just take quite awhile :P

  • beautiful

  • The best of all time. No one ever will be like the Pogues.
