I don't hate all remakes, just the unnecessary ones. The effects in Spielberg's version were awesome, and the opening reveal of the tripods was the best part of the movie. But then the script just starts adding a ton of ridiculous elements just to increase the film's marketability (like the teenage daddy issues and Tom Cruise). The final product was so much less than it should have been, it's a classic story... why ruin it?
