I've never seen one of these before. It seems to be very close to a hang drum. If you haven't seen it, look for "Hang Drum Solo" by Manu Delago here on YouTube. I recently started playing shakuhachi flute and I would love to hear shakuhachi with hang/hapi!
Hey Sean, why is it no one rates anyone's wids? Okay so some of us aren't perfect, me being one who isn't, but all of us do our best, and I like your HAPI. I think men have an advantage with the HAPI, in the fact that they are stronger. My thumb flick technique just doesn't work like the guys I see play their HAPIS. But I have a lot of fun with it. Hope you do too! Carmy
I actually have pretty weak hands and wrists which makes lifting my HAPI difficult, and at first I found it hard to play with my hands and get any tone, but then I realized it wasn't about how hard you strike the tongue but having a quickness to the strike. Since then I've been improving.
Yesterday a friend played it PERFECTLY on her first try. Thumb strikes, finger rolls, the whole bit.
So maybe over time you'll be able to do them, or maybe you will find your own HAPI path :)
Sean: One hand is stiffer that the other, you can tell in my videos. I just do my own thing, 'cause no matter what one does on a HAPI sounds great. Thanks for the reply. Carmy

thanks, yeah I love HANG HANG, but I can't afford one because it's $700 PLUS a trip to Berm (in Switzerland if I remember correctly) to get one

Sounds great, Sean. October won't come soon enough for me. That is when my Hapi is slated to arrive!

That is so cool. It sounds almost like music for a video game. Very mana-esque.
