Ask for the new customer price. I did and got my bill to $20 dollars from $40. I was planning changing ISPs and told them I would leave unless they offered me the lower price the NEW CUSTOMER gets and THEY DID.
You can too, even if you don't have an options to leave, just ask. Same with cell phones, tell them your service is crappy and you want a break in your bill.
I got my internet bill lower by threatening to leave for another company if they didn't give me the new customer price for 12 months. I was paying 40 a month from ATT and got it lowered to 20 a month for the same elite package. There is another company in my area that offers 20 a month.
I'll leave ATT if there's no penalty always but sure as shit I'm leaving when the year is over.
Spread the word, I'm sure it would work with comcast too. Fight back.

If you want to go to some obscure website, be prepared to PAY for it. Basically, the new internet is nothing more than a glorified CABLE channel.

Why the US citizens thinks that if this takes place in US, this will change the Internet? Internet is global, I think some people just forgot that. This will never happen, If any internet provider tried to do this it would not be long until its millions of users started to realize this was happening and it would cause a mass un-subscription from the internet provider and they would prob go out of business. I suspect the net neutrality supporters don't fully understand how the Internet works in terms of redundancy and immunity to monopoly control. It's a distributed network. It can survive a nuclear attack, so no, Comcast can not get monopoly control. This is a solution looking for a problem. The Internet is working great, no one is complaining about anything and the hardware continues to evolve incredibly. WHY DOES THE GOVERNMENT WANT TO SCREW WITH THAT? They screwed up enough already.

Ask for the new customer price. I did and got my bill to $20 dollars from $40. I was planning changing ISPs and told them I would leave unless they offered me the lower price the NEW CUSTOMER gets and THEY DID.
You can too, even if you don't have an options to leave, just ask. Same with cell phones, tell them your service is crappy and you want a break in your bill.
Capitalism from the ground up folks.

I got my internet bill lower by threatening to leave for another company if they didn't give me the new customer price for 12 months. I was paying 40 a month from ATT and got it lowered to 20 a month for the same elite package. There is another company in my area that offers 20 a month.
I'll leave ATT if there's no penalty always but sure as shit I'm leaving when the year is over.
Spread the word, I'm sure it would work with comcast too. Fight back.

Companies like Verizon and Comcast have already begun preparations for Internet2. For Verizon, it was the institution of Fios. For Comcast, the new XFinity. These are the UPGRADES from the old hubs that they are letting die out. Pretty soon, you wont be able to get internet, UNLESS you get internet2, via Comcast or Verizon.
If you want to go to some obscure website, be prepared to PAY for it. Basically, the new internet is nothing more than a glorified CABLE channel.

Its a slow process, but a process thats been in the works for a while.

The internet as it exists will have to quit being in demand for these other services to seriously break into the market. Net neutrality is a way for government to get involved BEFORE there is a problem. Besides, internet companies sell bandwidth in packages, if they are not providing bandwidth as the contract states, they could be held liable. There are ways for consumers to protect it w/o govt

Why the US citizens thinks that if this takes place in US, this will change the Internet? Internet is global, I think some people just forgot that. Being so, many internet companies will surely just choose to be in another country, if this does happen. I live in Brazil, and here we do not have AT&T and Verizon (thank God). This policy will affect the United States citizens, not the Internet. Google (and many other) has already spread all over the world, they are not limited by AT&T or Verizon.

The internet works like mail/shipping; bandwidth & method of information distribution = delivery speed & stamp(s). The "method of information distribution" usage is charged by the government (satellites & telephone wires). At least, that's my understanding of it.
