When you have farms and vineyards again in Greenland then we have fully recovered from the LIA. If ALL human activity stopped tomorrow there would be no noticeable change in temperature, 0.01 Degree Cen. over a period of 100 years, of the planet.
Nuclear power an alternative!? You've got to be kidding me!
But yeah, I guess if we aren't even capable of recognizing climate change untill we start to fry, surely it will take at least a penis growing out of your skull before we realize what a insane suggestion nuclear power really is.
This in no longer science or politics it has now raised to the level of religious fanaticism for the church of global warming. They will destroy anyone who attempts to disprove the churches theology. The selling of indulgences was done the Catholic Church in the 1500's so there is precedence for Al and his cronies to sell "carbon credits" for money to pay for their own lavish life style, 4 mansions, private jets, 20X energy use of an ordinary home, and the life style of the rich and famous.
The Warmers are the ones that chant Global warming while standing up to their hips in snow. How is there a difference in selling indulgences to forgive you for the sin you committed verses buying a carbon credit to fly your private jet?
Gore is never going to stop his life style of the rich & famous. The private jet keeps the common folk away
Hypocrisy aside (a subject I don't want to get into), my analogy was based more on the premise that those who acknowledge global warming are being rediculed/discredited by the established power (oilcratie?). Same with atheism vs. religion.
The real question is why do nothing but oppose and delay solutions? Fossil fuels will deplete at some point anyway. And by then our time of action will be much too late.
The U.S. consumes 25% of the world's energy and produces 25% of the waste, which is 10X more per capita than China and India.
So, who should lead us out of this mess??
Why are the fossil fuel industries and their deniers so totally against efforts to SLOW global warming???
If they're RIGHT that we're beginning a cooling period, then any provisions that COST MONEY will be IMMEDIATELY SUSPENDED as soon as a cooling trend can be scientifically demonstrated.
Great Film! I am I could see it in Lithuania. I would be even more happy to have possibility to spread it along more people concerned on my Green website...
Its not about "saving the planet" and its not about clean air or water, it IS about control. Control of how you live your life, the food you eat, the number of kids you can have, the house you can live in and the job that you can have. I heard ALL these same arguments when the eco nuts were saying global cooling back in the 70s. They will manufacture ANY crisis to advance their agenda. We can run your life better and more efficiently than you so shut-up and do and we say not as we do.
capturing the carbon after the coal is burned is fine in idea but the strip mining for the coal in the first place is devastating Southern West Virginia and neighboring states!
how about wind?
how about sun?
how about Tesla's standing columnar waves?
How about tidal, c'mon, there are lots of ways to power this fucking wasteful society. these transitions will generate many jobs as the production of these energies requires many new technologies and hardwares.
Carbon capturing, if the technology became prolific quickly, is a solution. And I am a devout supporter of quick effective action on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Looking forward to the film, but they really unfairly sandbagged this man in this video.
Greenpeace leader Gerd Leipold has been forced to admit that his organization issued misleading and exaggerated information when it claimed that Arctic ice would disappear completely by 2030, in a crushing blow for the man-made global warming movement.
In an interview with the BBCs Stephen Sackur on the Hardtalk program, he attempted to evade the question but was ultimately forced to admit that Greenpeace had made a mistake when it said Arctic ice would disappear completely in 20 years.
I beg Milliband to look at the corruption of the nuclear industry they are not clean. They claim 56 people died in chernobyl when 200,000 died according to the Ukraine government (not a bunch of hippies). How can you trust such an industry. I beg you milliband. I know you want to do what is right so do not fall for their lies. They are dangerous liars, who are using you.
Ed Milliband can get lost he supports nuclear for scotland. Chernobyl has killed over 200,000 people in the Ukraine. Milliband is stooge of the corrupt nuclear industry.
If our message is to China you cant burn any more, then that is a mad WAR cry.
Knock yerselves out rich actors and wasters from the world of exploitation who confuse coal with Iraq. If my parents and Grandparents die cos they could'nt get reliable power like yor mum and dads could, are you amenable to being introduced to my ire?
The thing that the film doesn't mention is peak oil. If we don't do something more about renewable energy soon then lots of people will not have a reliable energy supply.

I know which one i'd choose.
Unfortunately orangewilliam, it is those least well off who will be hit the hardest. I can't speak for others involved but I am neither wealthy nor elitist.
You clearly know nothing about the film. Franny Armstrong worked for minimal wages on that film because she believes in it. She may be wearing a suit for the premiere but she is no elitist living in 'first class' nor does she aspire to that. The film also deals with the social consequences of over-consumption and points out that the poorest people in the world will suffer most from climate change (the same way the poorest always suffer). Get your facts straight before your knee jerks!
yea these comments aren't rendering sensibly at all, you can't see who's replying to who. in any case Orangewilliam is angry, possibly because the creeping realisation that immediate and pervasive change to our lives is too much. It is a big thing to grasp if your worldview is one of stability and 'progress (as codified by capitalism)'.
If you count the increased energy use in mining ores as the richer ores are used up then nuclear stops being a low carbon option. And that is even if you ignore the issue of radioactive waste.
U must realise: ALL energy comes from the SUN. It is HOW LONG it takes to REPLACE that makes it RENEWABLE and so low carbon. This means that the C02 emmissions can be REABSORBED by the planet on a HUMAN TIME SCALE. Consider the MILLIONS of YEARS it takes for carbon to be locked away in COAL & OIL, and THEN how long to be locked into WOOD. Uranium is a FINITE resource formed at the birth of the planet and the byproduct remains RADIOACTIVE for 4.5 BILLION years. THE MYTH IS HOW MUCH ENERGY WE NEED.
I was not suggesting we ignore it, just that we factor in all the energy that goes in in the first place plus energy in decomissioning and dealing with the waste. None of the UK reactors have produced more energy than was required to build them yet and that is without those things factored in.
If it hadn't been for nuclear weapons the money would never have gone into nuclear power. The same investment in renewables would have given a much greater payback.
This film is a good wakeup call, but 80% emissions cut by 2050?? that's not going to save our civilization. What humanity needs is an 80% cut in the endless stream of desires and thoughts (most of which are negative and repetitive) that compel people to make short sighted decisions based around ego gratification. Because it's really this pattern of fueling the greedy capitalist system that is largely responsible for the imbalances we see at the environmental, ecological, and social levels.
80% cut in UK emissions by 2050 is generally believed not to be enough either....its too little too late. Also irrelevant if its 'the best' government policy because it will be blown to bits if they build Kingsnorth and a 3rd heathrow runway.
- carbon capture technology does NOT currently exisit and if it ever does it will be too late to stop run away climate change.
Lets focus on our governments actions ED -we pay u to represent us not china
I want to believe you. I want to not have to go through the difficulty of acknowledging that we as an entire generation, species, planet, really are in quite a shit situation - but I can't do that. That would be wilful ignorance.
We are in a shit situation with climate change. We have created it. But we can get ourselves out of it. And we will.
Did you think Sadam had nuclear weapons, Blair was a good Guy and arabs were responsible for 911 too? Oh dear. History will prove you wrong.
Have you read The First Global Revolution? You must not REACT. Seek the truth from your oponents. They will help you become wize.If you really seek the truth, just watch the 'Alternative' vids on youtube.
ezeskank is right. Man is a planet polluter what with Nuclear Power, Depleted Uranium, Sulphur Dioxide, Flouride etc. etc. but he's way too puny to warm the planet. Carbon levels were much higher before man. Good people have been hoodwinked. Just look at who is behind this scam. AL GORE! No-one in their rigjht mind would buy ANYTHING from Al Gore. This is part of the New World Order agenda. Coal pollution is better than radiation pollution. Brown, Cameron, Sarkozy all support Nuclear Energy!?!?!
Carbon dioxide is a pollutant in significant quantities. Nitrogen is fundamental to life itself but I'm not off to have a Nitrogen sandwich any time soon.
Climatologists have never confused the climate - the complex behaviour of the entire biosphere - with local weather events. But the rhetorical trick of conflating the two is of a piece with confusing the toxicity of CO2 with the effect of its radiative forcing.
I'll pit reams of peer-reviewed science, professionals at the Met Office and the majority of climate scientists against your badly spelt conspiracy theories any time. The situation is now far too desperate for your witless flat-earthing.
All the evidence is that global warming is real. Those who say otherwise almost inevitably have vested interests in the oil air or automobile industries. I am old enough that hopefully it won't get too bad in my life time but we owe it to future generations to be honest about the science and to act on it PDQ.
Everyone who can afford one, should get any alternative energy they possibly can for their home. But the government don't push THAT option because they can't TAX us & the corporations that produce power for a 'grid' system.
Saving power with REGULATIONS on energy efficiency & insulation... could produce MORE power than ALL the planned nukes & new coal!
Vote GREEN anyway Pete! You know you can't trust the grey suit politicians... even if they DO wear a green tie. Cameron will be NO BETTER!
Kingsnorth is NOT being planned to include CCS from the outset - it is being planned and built as an old fashioned dirty coal power station to have CCS retrofitted when the technology becomes available. To justify it on the basis that it will show the Chinese that we are serious about finding climate solutions is specious nonsense.
China can put a man in space and sells us most of our consumer goods - they are well able to solve their own carbon problems.
I saw him in the audience too: he went white, then red, then sweaty, then white again. I thought at one point that he was going to be sick: from the look on his face he probably did too. Half of me was gleeful, half of me thought: poor bloody Ed.
Still... he could resign tomorrow from the DECC, stating no confidence in the rest of his cabinet's ability to keep our homes, livelihoods or families safe, and be a shoo-in as an independent green. Could be the making of him.

There is NO tipping point Mr. Hansen!
Just a reminder:
N2 78.08%
O2 20.95%
H2O 0 to 4%
Ar 0.93%
CO2 ~0.0360% (or even less)
Since there is a practically unlimited water supply in the oceans, whatever happens in the atmosphere, it is dominated by water vapor and clouds!
CO2 is immaterial and insignificant!
