  • @gaeilge1O1 Thank you for making that clarification. It's nice to learn more about other cultures and if you hadn't said otherwise I would have gone to the end of my days thinking Gaelic was the name of the Irish language.

  • 9 dislikes?!?!?! WHO THE FUCK WOULD DISLIKE THIS?!?!?!

  • @NaerenVastir Ssssshhh....no cursing, this song is too pretty....

  • love this song. orla does a beautiful job. first heard connie dover sing it. slower just as lovely!!! thanks for posting.

  • I want to learn Gaelic now.

  • @Blacckkfire *Gaeilge :)

  • @fieldmau5 That may be the way you say it in the language itself, but there are different ways to say it in different languages. For example, "spanish" in it's language is "espenol."

  • @Blacckkfire Hi I saw your comment and I can't resist to tell you that in the spanish language isn't "espenol" it's español. Sorry for my bad english.

  • @CrystalsOfTheTime I know this but I was too lazy to find how to type "ñ"

    :P

  • Beautiful, I wish I could sing in Gaelic, let alone as well as her. I just can't believe how wonderful she sings. Its just angelic.

  • @Celticfan1927 Just keep practicing ^^ When I first started listening to them, I couldn't speak a word of Gaelic. But if you look up the lyrics and just keep trying to sing along, you'll get it :)

  • This has long been one of my favorite pieces by them... I love how richly the language flows... (Makes me wish I spoke it, actually... or sang it...)

  • Is tu mo ghra Orlagh! She and Mairead are the most adorable Celtic Woman members imo...I watched an interview of hers and was overcome with her cuteness.

  • ever I would ..

  • To the eight tone deaf ones:Is fearr Gaeilge briste, na Bearla cliste

  • beautiful

  • Can anyone tell me what language is this sang in. Thks.

  • @jjingjaykay...The language she is singing in is Gaelige which is the official language of Ireland...It's NOT Gaelic, Gaelic isn't a language, it's a language family with several languages and dialects....We simply call this language Irish...

  • @gaeilge1O1 Thanks .

  • I can´t get through the YouTube Celtic Woman playlist because I always stop and replay this song over and over again.

  • Eight people are with her parents -

  • I was in the audience during this song

  • @flockfighter niiice :)

  • 0:01 Suddenly i have a new favorite song!

  • [Chorus:] Siúil, siúil, siúil a rúin Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán. I wish I was on yonder hill 'Tis there I'd sit and cry my fill Until every tear would turn a mill I'll sell my rod, I'll sell my reel I'll sell my only spinning wheel To buy my love a sword of steel [Chorus] I'll dye my petticoats, I'll dye them red And 'round the world I'll beg my bread Until my parents shall wish me dead [Chorus three times]
  • @Taxo3 thank you so much for the words. At the risk of sounding like an idiot, is this gaelic?

  • @kibe222 Yes this is sung in Gaelic.. Not as dead a language as some ppl would lead you to believe

  • @zonestarsomen...There's no such language as Gaelic...Gaelic is a language family with several languages and dialects. The language here is Gaeilge which is the official language of Ireland, we simply call it Irish...

  • @kibe222 As near as I can tell, yes, but don't quote me on that. Wait until this video gets more hits from people in Ireland who actually speak the language. They're good about these questions.

  • it's beautiful but it's sung with so much joy...this is a sad song and should be sung like how connie dover does it. You can feel the sadness in her voice.

  • So, wut exactly is this song about?

  • @Karen21242 It's about a woman singing how her lover has joined the army. she has sold everthing for his equipment "I'll sell my rock, I'll sell my reel I'll sell my only spinning wheel To buy my love a sword of steel".

and now shes poor "i beg at the port for my bread". However im not sure if he joins the Irish French regiments which many Irish did to fight the British, Irish men would also join the Spanish army. Or if he joins the British army since its mentioned she dyes his "petticoat" red.

  • @aaron1mcdonnell

I c. So y does she say "until my parents wish me dead"?

  • @Karen21242 perhaps because she is so poor, im not too sure. from the context of the lyrics i'd say due to her begging at the port. Her parents may be so ashamed of her poverty and disown her, you must remember this song was written when society had different views.

  • @aaron1mcdonnell

Hmmm, u make a good point! Sounds good 2 me! Thanx 4 the clarification! ^_^

  • @aaron1mcdonnell I believe the verse was SHE would dye her petticoat red so her parents wished her dead means that she would basically temporarily become a "lady of the night" to support him while he fought.

  • @aaron1mcdonnell

The line "I'll dye my petticoats red" is a subtle reference to prostitution. Red is a cheap dye that often was the only color that prostitutes had, and thus red petticoats were representative of that.

The general consensus is that the song might have referred to the Wild Geese, that is Irish soldiers that left to serve in continental armies, usually Spanish.

  • I love Celtic Woman, but I wish they sang all the verses of the traditional Irish songs! The most haunting verse of this : I wish, I wish, I wish in vain

I wish I had my heart again

And vainly think I'd not complain

Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán

They left it out! Ahh heartbreakk.

  • The background singers have like... perfect balance!! How is that humanly possible!?!?!?

  • i love her voice but i would have worn a bra with that dress :S

  • @eamanexancalime omg yes whoever dressed her for this performance should get sued but she did great anyways

  • Órla Fallon not only has a beautiful voice; she is a very talented harpist. :)

Celtic Woman - Isle of Inisfree

    /watch?v=1xn7rjlOxfc

(Song and harp solo by Órla Fallon)

  • I remember watching this on pbs when i was young. haha

  • Comment removed

  • perfect, perfect =]

  • She has such a beautiful voice.

  • I GET TO SEE HER LIVE IN CONCERT IN THREE MONTHS. !!!!!

    (Her solo one, that is.)

  • @simplystreeptacular She sings some songs from her "water is wide" and "distant shore" albums, and some other songs like "two sisters" I can honestly say that her concert was my favorite concert I've ever been to. When she sings, it's like you've known eachother for years. have fun!

  • @simplystreeptacular lol well its been three months... how was it haha

  • @Mr1Marshy93 When I re-solidify from being a melty, liquefied blob of melted goo, I will let you know. Until then, all I can say is... NNNNNGH SO GOOD.

  • Orla made this song for me. I've listened to other versions and no one else does it quite like her! <3

  • i love the way she moves around in the song and does the hand movements idk it kinda goes with the song and she looks good doing it lol

  • what is this song about???

  • @danielle1995715 Siúil a Rúin" is a tradtional Irish song, sung from the point of view of a woman lamenting a lover who has embarked on a military career, and indicating her willingness to support him. The song has English language verses and an Irish language chorus, a style known as macaronic.

The title translates to "go, my love" (or variants): siúil is an imperative, literally translating to "walk!", a rúin is the vocative of rún, a term of endearment. ~Wikipedia

  • what is the clasification of this kind of music? or am...who is this kind of music call?

  • @Argentknight16 i'd say its Celtic music :)

  • would so totally do orlagh at her harp.

  • @pvtpstr I'd raise a fuss about you being offensive, but I kind of agree with you.

Okay, I *definitely* agree with you. I could just lose myself in her.

  • @simplystreeptacular - She's a biscuit fer shur. Just wanna crawl up in there with a jug o' MD 20/20 and some James Joyce...

  • There is a reason the first performance of Celtic Woman was this song with Orla. She is on a completely different level.

  • @UndercoverCracker???? what do you mean "first performance"???

  • @gaeilge101 Ummm the first performance of this show....

  • All of their music is so wonderful and meaning ful that you can feel it in your soul. I love this song.

  • Seriously... 9 dislikes... lol. ???

  • This song is great for her voice. =)

  • This is gorgeous.

  • the guy on the chorus at 2:46 looks bored or like he doesnt wanna be there lol

  • They should've definitely put a bra on her to pull her boobies up! bt still beautiful!! awesome song!!

  • Very beautiful!

  • this is one of my favorite songs by these ladies. so beautiful

  • Sorry I meant to type beautiful song

  • Different song

  • Another version by Anuna is alwasy really beautiful :) I love both of them.

  • Wow, they do have a lot of songs that are made by Clannad :P no complaining here thou, still love them ^^

  • @MadMadgic Siuil a run isn't originally made by Clannad... it's a traditional Irish song, and Clannad, just like Celtic Woman, Anuna and many others, have made their own version of it. :)

  • OH cén fáth go stoptar dont éisteann tú le ceol diabhal agus go leor do argóint os

  • @vertigo1090...Cad é an heck raibh ceaptha a bheith?

  • @shieldwolf49....If you want to learn the language of Ireland then you need to learn Gaeilge NOT Gaelic. Gaeilge is the first official language of Ireland with English being the second. They share the same roots, but saying they are the same is like saying that Spanish and Portugeuse are the same....

  • Comment removed

  • @gaeilge101 i really don't understand the difference of Gaeilge and Gaelic basing on your declaration, don't they mean the same thing?? i've searched about it, this is the result: Irish is known as Irish, Gaelic or Irish Gaelic in English. The official standard name in Irish is Gaeilge /'geɪlɪk/. Before the 1948 spelling reform, this was spelled Gaedhilge. In Middle Irish the name was spelled Gaoidhealg, and it was Goídelc in Old Irish.

  • @pinkcottonfly Gaelic is a language family, one of the two extant branches of the Celtic language family. Referring to Irish "Gaelic" is like calling English "Germanic".

The Scottish Gaelic language is often called "Gaelic" because "Scottish" can also refer to their English dialect or the Scots langauge(a very divergent dialect of English). Ireland does not have that ambiguity, their English dialect is called "Hibernal English" and they have no third language. So it's just called "Irish".

  • @ctraver thanks for the reply... appreciate it =)

  • @ctraver...O geeeeez taken from a textbook, and one not written by someone from here....Gaeilge is the language of Ireland, it's our first official language with English being the second...Gaeilge is used daily in our courts and government. It's being taught again in our school system and is a required class...Saying Gaeilge and Gaelic are the same is like saying Spanish and Portugeuse are the same. And we generally just call it Irish...

  • @gaeilge101 I believe I said that Gaelic and Irish aren't the same thing. Properly speaking, Gaelic is not a language at all. It is a subfamily of the Celtic languages. Scotland uses it as the English name for their Celtic language, I'm well aware that Ireland does not.

Calling Irish "Gaelic" isn't like calling Spanish "Portugese" at all. It's much more like calling Spanish "Romance", which is just a ridiculous idea since Romance isn't actually a language, poetic metaphors aside.

  • @ctraver...Ionas go mbeadh tú fós ag iarraidh a insint dúchais na hÉireann, rud atá aige nó aici teanga tú go leor .... ó Mheiriceá nach bhfuil a fhios acu cad a léann sé rud ar bith ach amháin as an leabhar.

  • @gaeilge101 What, exactly, am I saying that is not correct? Your previous post complained about saying that Irish and Gaelic are the same, which I have not done at all here. I attempted to clarify this, and apparently I'm still wrong about something but you aren't saying what that is.

  • @ctraver...What's wrong is your source of information. I live in Ireland, I was born here and have spoken Gaeilge since I can remember... I do not dispute what you said about Gaelic and Gaeilge being different...I don't even contest what you say about the language families being talked about... Just don't put all your faith on the subject in books written by people other than people from Ireland. Thats like me trying to tell you about Native American languages...

  • @gaeilge101 How pedantic.

  • @gaeilge101

Other regional variations of the name in modern Irish dialects include Gaedhilic, Gaeilic, Gaeilig or Gaedhlag in Ulster and northern Connacht, and Gaedhealaing, Gaoluinn or Gaelainn in Munster.

  • @gaeilge101 please do explain further..

  • This is one of Orla's best performances.

  • Celtic Woman's music prove to me that just because im a teenager, it doesn't mean i don't like this music- aswell as others of course =]

  • man.. i absolutely LOVE them.. but it's a little upsetting that they're lip syncing... why can't they just sing?? are they really that bad live?

  • @finneyfaery LOL They are not lip synching at all. They have very tiny mics. Go look up live performances of theirs from talk shows or in little radio studios. They are just that perfect for the most part. You need to do your research before accusing these wonderfully talented women of being fakers. :)

  • @LetDannyBe easy tiger.. was just giving my opinion about it. didn't use any profanity or start any name-calling. i've seen a lot of these performances and am a fan. i also love sarah brightman, but she is SO guilty of lip syncing as well. i just have a pretty keen ear and know the music well enough to know that they sound EXACTLY like the recording.. but whatever. it's not like it matters either way..

  • @finneyfaery Sorry, friend but you are still wrong. Go look up some performances of theirs from television talk shows, or in small studio settings. You're still not understanding - the albums are recordings OF these live performaces.

  • @LetDannyBe that's actually what i figured.. i mentioned to my husband when we were watching..he said they had to be lip syncing because it sounded too much like the cd. i mentioned that the cd was probably made from these performances.. good to know i was right about that.. and the vids must be in stereo.. it's just too perfect. still a fan.. never said i wasn't. i listen to them all the time. it wasn't a hurtful accusation.. just wondering really.. but i know for a FACT that sarah bright does.

  • @finneyfaery Well, the videos are from their DVDs. The concert DVD specials are setup specifically to be recorded for a commercial release. The people who have uploaded these basically ripped them from the DVDs. Hope that gives some further insight & I hope you enjoyed some of those other live performances if you got a chance to see the ones I mentioned.

  • @finneyfaery I also suggest viewing this video if you really want to see for yourself - look up this title- (New Edit) Celtic Woman performing Níl Sé'n Lá live (on ABC Radio National)

  • @finneyfaery Another good one is their performance of the same song on Regis & Kelly - Celtic Woman Níl Sé'n Lá ...copy and paste that in. Or perhaps view their new harmonized a capella version of Danny Boy from the newest DVD special or any other live performance. You can't fake something that up close and personal, the breaths, the chest movements with the breathing. Another example would be them singing with the PS22 Choir...look up Chloe Agnew singing When You Believe with them.

  • @finneyfaery There is no name-calling or profanity. I have something called class, and I never suggest otherwise. The fact remains that you are wrong, and if you do your research you will discover that some people are simply talented enough and classically trained to perform at this caliber. Some of them even have backgrounds in Riverdance & Broadway theater productions as well. Lisa Kelly has played lead roles in Chicago, Grease & West Side Story.

  • @finneyfaery Trust me, friend...none of this is to start an argument with you. I would love nothing more than to create another fan who recognizes their talents. I think if you actually look up some more videos you will be able to see. These women train extensively, and you can clearly see them sounding JUST as good in smaller intimate settings where it is extremely evident that there is no track.

  • @finneyfaery...Lip Syncing really???? NO WAY...they sing every note to every song. I work with these fine ladies and they don't need to lower themselves down the the level of today's pop stars...They are much too good for that. It's a well known problem with You Tube that the audio and video don't always sync up....But thats no excuse for your rants....

  • @gaeilge101 my rants? rotfl. ok.... you act as though i was bad mouthing and cursing at them.. easy does it. it's going to be ok. breathe. :o}

  • as good as Maire Brennan!!!

  • I am absolutely obsessed with this song.

  • Such beautiful angelic voices! Sheer therapy! I'm looking forward to seeing these ladies in concert!

  • she has a beautiful voice but it seems like her movements are forced and it just makes her bounce back and forth with her arms flapping. almost like shes not entirely into the music. :(

  • @dthsythehell i can see what you mean. but i believe that her gifted voice makes up for her stiffness.

  • how on earth can anyone dislike this song?!

  • @prdragonrider1 you should know by now that some people on this world (called h8ers) hate everything.. so it would be hypocritical from them if they would hit like button.

  • @prdragonrider1 Their eyes were watery and they missed the button.

  • That backdrop looks like the stargate.

  • does siuil a run mean walk my love or walk with me???

  • @bigsis314

I'd say "Walk my love," but since it's in another language it's not perfect.

  • @MagykalShadow hahaha thx,,,gaelic is such a weird language i dont blame u..

  • @bigsis314 just saying, but 'walk my love' is in the title ;)

  • @ImaginaryNightshade well u just made me feel stupid lol JKJKJKJK ummmmmmmmmmm if u look at thunder989 video on the related videos it says walk with me

  • @bigsis314 Oh, well :) I checked wikipedia, and it says 'Walk my love', too :) And CelticLadies seems a pretty credible channel, too :) I still think it's 'Walk my love' :)

  • @bigsis314 Walk, walk, walk my love

    Walk calmly and walk quietly

Walk to the door and escape with me

And may you go safely, my darling

  • These women have a gift from none other than our lord , they make my heart wont to sing with joy Breath thanking beautiful , Thanking you for sharing this with us

  • Orla's my favorite Celtic woman...I always thought her voice carried the true celtic spirit more than the voices of the others.

  • no.. i feel lisa kelly and orla are both equally good

  • One of my fave performances of Órla... She brings the Irish sound. Although I think this dress don't really fits her, the grey one in A New Journey is perfect for her.

  • Orla is THE Celtic Woman.

  • the.......middle part.....background song is so..jungly!love it

  • Orla sings this beautifully... words cannot express. Sad b/c she nor Meav are no longer with Celtic. Missing them very much, especially b/c Orla has an outstanding Celtic voice.

  • this has to be my favorite song sung by Orla, brova :D i love you Orla

  • See even retired train killers like me have a heart; a Celtic warrior heart. She has the voice of an ANGEL,it is a balm to any pain and hard memories,,,

  • Beautiful song. Thank you to all those who have and are serving our country. God bless

  • I find it interesting so many veterans have written in here... as a vet myself I find this a sad and tragic song, about a man sent off to fight elsewhere, and his woman wanting nothing more than to sell what she has so she may buy him the best weapon possible at the time.

    A beautiful song...

And yes, this brings tears to this 'Armored' guy also.

  • @RivenrockGardens i know two songs i sang in choir that would go well with this song: "Johnny has Gone for a Soldier" (sung by the girls) and "In Flanders Fields" (sung by the boys). i cryed harder when the boys sang, than i did when i sang our song......

  • I cry every time. Beautiful!

  • Perfect!

  • "Go to the door and away we'll flee"!

  • These ladies always make this ol' Marine cry with joy!

  • these ladies always make this irishman who is a former navyman cry with joy as well!

  • my dear marine it is good to see someone who appreciates these lovely ladies

  • @elbertsnext

they affect me the same, soldier. And the orchestra is beyond excellent.

  • @mac23skidoo please dont call marines soldiers we are completly different

  • @rudderick LOL You are a person serving your country like me. It doesn't matter if they call you a soldier or Marine.

  • Beautiful. Thanks so much for posting this video, CelticLadies!! :)

  • Orla is my favorite. :)

  • Orla has a real celtic dream of a voice, listening to her transports me to Mayo, my favourit place on earth. I just think she isn't comfortable with the dancing malarkey. she is a singer, thats what she excels at, leave the dancing to those who can't sing.

  • When I dirst started watching Celtic Woman I didnt realize just how amazing Orla was until I heard 2:23 - 2:33. At that moment I realized she was one of the most amazing singers I've ever heard. I still feel that way to this day. Every single one of her songs is brilliant.

  • She actually sounds even better in the higher quality!!

  • So true :O

  • You're right!

  • one of the women in the Lord Of The Dance sung this song

  • She is fucking brilliant!!!!!

  • I know that it shouldn't matter, and really, it doesn't, but i keep thinking that there could have been a more flattering dress to put her in!

But the voice is beautiful, and more then makes up for anything wrong!

  • I thought that too! Both things

  • I wish I could speak that language... this is very well done. ^_^

  • This song is so beautiful orla is amazing

  • I love watching David Downes. I like how he's all calm looking and he actually looks like he knows what he's doing. Now if only we can get the band teacher at our school to look like that.

  • I agree.

  • Just Great!!!!

  • OH, yeah, the Celtic Womans version beautifully sang too!!!

  • So Siuil a Run is gaelic for Walk my love??? I have found all your comments very helpful. The more you look the more you learn. Enya one of my favourites.

  • Yes you are mostly correct except the language is Gaeilge, which is the 1st official language of Ireland. Gaelic is the root language but like Spanish is different from Latin. Gaeilge is different from Gaelic. The song is about a woman who follows her lover to the continent and follows his brigade. She dyes her petticoats red so people will think she is her lover's prostitute, so she wouldn't be chased away...

  • Thanks for that. Its such a lovely song, even more so when you understand the words. One of my favourites. I even got my friend hooked on this song. Its a bit sad especially since he'd gone to war & she'd be suffering from hardship. Also like the LOTR version & Robinhood. (composer Thomas? Hardiman) I didn't know about gaeilge which one would be the older language? cheers :)
