  • man you did amazing! i have been playing for 3 years and can even play that high! but you must have alot of years under your belt :) u rock!

  • u went a little flat at 1:19

  • I appreciated this 100%. it was done with clarity and without any bs. It was toned with the proper respect for those who have fought and gave all for our country and he gave the emotion required for that. I've played the trumpet before. Well done Preston. Carry on.

  • Was this the 2010 game?

  • I completely disagree with mymusclecar. Why is it that singers can sing the anthem however they want, with whatever breaks in between. Patriotism should be expressed in what ever form it takes. Not the notes that john phillip sousa wrote 200 years ago. When you have a degree in trumpet performance, i would expect this guy to be better than an average high schooler.

  • @soccerdawg2

    Francis Scott Key

  • DUDE, YOU'RE A STAR!!! LOL WHAT UP MAN?? LONG TIME NO SEE!!

  • yeah 1:19 cheerleaders!

  • I love this : ] You did great.

  • LETS GO SAINTS!!!!!!!!

  • lol 1:11 lol her face on the left

  • hes playing like you would if its written in 6/8.

  • THAT WAS AWESOME

  • his last name was hardon

  • the buzzy sound in his tone at times might just be the quality of the recording...

  • GO COWBOYS!!!

  • Totally agree. It was too choppy and harsh but nice.

  • and that's how that is suppose to be played! Great job.

Was that a double buzz though? I hate when that happens.

  • good but jesse mcguire can kick his ass

  • OH YA!!!

  • oh hell yeah woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo go cowboys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree that playing it straight - especially when asked as it seems he was - can be just as impressive as doing all kinds of "frilly" things with it. It is, after all, the national anthem and there's a certain amount of respect that needs to be kept with it. Don't lose the song itself in all the window dressing! There's other versions out here on YouTube (Jesse McGuire and Arturo Benson come to mind immediately) that have "just enough" flavor to it.

  • i think you mean arturo sandoval hahaha

    it's george benson

  • Thanks, it was late and I realized it after I posted that I meant Sandoval..lol.

  • I like it when it is played mostly as written but adding a few things. When I play it for a huge crowd, I usually add a few grace notes and a jump to double C in the second to last measure. It doesn't really change the song but it makes it more exciting and makes people remember that it was a trumpet playing it!!!

  • lol.

  • Excellent! I like it when it is played straight and not jazzed up. There are plenty of other songs out there that can be played jazzy. Too many people get out there and try to prove what they can do but it is not respectful. It is our National Anthem, treat it with respect. Thank you Preston.

  • thanks man..I appreciate it..I agree it is about respect not showing off.

  • @superbaldcoach Agree, even Mr. Jazz Wynton didn't touch or mess with the national anthem at the superbowl in 85.

  • @MyMusclecar i agee that going out there and showing off on the national anthem with the crazy stuff is not respectful if its like adam rapa im good but like on this video where he uses alot of tongue on the national anthem in my opinion it sounds kinda beginery cause you try to play exactly how its written on the page at least let it flow out dont try and play it just let it flow out and yes i do know what im talking about

  • i dont like this version because there is no flavor but i read your comments before and i would have played it however the hell i wanted.

    GO TRUMPETS!

  • There is a big difference between a double buzz and fatigue. I was gigging 5 and 6 nights a week in New Orleans and the surrounding areas, so believe me I wasn't winded. I played strait because Benson asked me too.

  • ooooo u told him lol

  • Look, there's a lot of pressure playing in that type of setting. You're in front of thousands of people, on TV, and all eyes and ears are on you, so making it all the way through is a good thing.

If everyone is honest, he BARELY made it through. His lips were shot halfway through the piece and his tone was paper thin.

  • it needs some like feeling its kinda plain but well done

  • Thanks for the comments. I turned in several versions of how I could play it to the etertainment director...Benson asked me to play it straight, so I did.

  • yay mr. smith!!! me(shannon) and eric were looking at this....you had hair!!! yayayayay!!! you had to of been nervous..oh well good job!!!

  • pretty good tone

(i wanted to see u show off sum range =()
