with the hook you can hang a weight for example a heavy camera bag, to add weight to the tripod to make it more strong incase you are in a situation where the tripod might fall over

Looks nice for what you have. But i'm afraid you're gonna have to upgrade it when you get your 60D. I just got the Davis & Sanford Provista 7518 for my DSLR. And that sir.. Is a beast. Future proof for whatever accessories I can throw on my camera. And a fluid head. Just keeping you up on tripod knowledge :)

a good tripod goes a long way! i have a total of 3. 1 is more than 7 years old and still is pretty good. also has a bag to carry it around with. the level indicator is also on there :)
