  • With Pinball Wizard, the "Overture" is my favorite part in Tommy (1969).

  • The WHO is my favorite Rock Band (Classic Rock), great song by a great band.

  • right behind you I see the millions...yet to come

  • 3 people might not by blind and dumb, but they are for sure deaf.

  • Good job and great documentation!

  • i play the french horn and the french horn is played in this! i love this song!

  • @ShinyDodrio34 Have you heard "Bucket-T," "I'm A Boy" and "Whiskey Man" by The Who?

  • I "borrowed" this album form my Uncle Mike in ca. 1977.

  • @ShinyDodrio34 French Horn?

  • @EnterTheDutch It's the brass instrument being played in the beginning and throughout the overture.

  • My first bought album. I think 1972

  • I grew up listening to The Who with my Dad, and I've always loved it. I've known all the words to every song on the album since I can remember. Listening to it brings back so many memories.

  • one of ultra favorite albums of all time, just cannot get enough of it. rock on the who.super group.my faves.

  • d20000222 u are an idiot

  • @Rheinmetall20mm Your taste in music is bad and you should feel bad

  • @Rheinmetall20mm He's possibly the best musician/artist ever. THAT'S how.

  • This is just so good.

  • Tommy shows how really fucked up the human race is. Bastard Child born out of wedlock.....mom cheats on dad while he's away at WAR. He comes home from war and mommy and the "beau" kill daddy the war hero, Tommy witnesses it and seals his fate as the deaf, dumb, blind kid.

  • @bheadh Correction... Daddy the war hero comes home from war and kills the "beau."

  • @D2000222 That's what happens in the album and play, but in the movie, the beau kills the dad.

  • @bheadh totalmente de acuerdo. este tema ya es casi un himno de esa época

  • The cover of this album I have is well battered after all these years, but the record itself is in good shape.

  • great music

  • Keith Moon's drums just roll through this Overture and carry it. I can hear and remember every beat!

  • @widestrides I totally agree, Keith's drumming is phenomenal... I also think the drum mix is incredibly crisp for the day.

  • @voxpop2000 best fookin drummin in any album

  • I like veterans. I think that the money that the government receives and then redistributes should be skewed towards the veterans.

  • The first time I heard this I was in a tent in what was then "South Vietnam". We were in the Signal Corps and so had lots of electrical power, and this guy had a new reel-to-reel tape deck, playing this through headphones. I was blown away then, and I still am now as I listen to this. For some reason the tears won't stop.... It was an era not just a piece of music.

  • @MrSpecialpaul i feel the same way, at 22 even. this album changed my life.

  • ladies and gentlemen , THE WHO

  • Briliant! Full orchrastration, the works. Absolute genious! I love the french horn's. It's not very often french horn's are used in rock music. What a treat!

  • At the one minute mark and again at the two minute mark and the three minute mark as well, listen to the guitar riff and then listen to the "Green Tambourine" by the Lemon Pipers and tell me that is not the same....the question is which one came first??

  • @sandog61 who cares lol music is always like that, get over it man.

  • :33 to 1:15 was the "All Star Wrestling " theme in Buffalo/Cleveland around 1973

  • thx

  • really liked tina turner as the Acid Queen!

  • the who's tommy original its alot diffrent from the movie they could have put this in the movie but they decided to change it a little bit but pink floyd left there original music too put in there movie its stange the who did not think of that before they made there movie it sounds alot like a carnvel music in it in a way

  • Its so funny listening to these songs without skipping. Makes me miss my record player.

  • Alguén pode decirme cal é o tema nesta ópera de rok dos The Who "funeral por un amigo".

  • I'm so happy! I found the Tommy album, which was missing from my dad's collection at a antique store. What a way to start my record collection!

  • Hard to believe this is 41 years old. I've been a WHO fan since then. First saw them perform in 1972 at "The Warehouse" in New Orleans.

  • as for PLAYLIST: (e.g.:) watch?v=G5GBroq6dsM&p=A1560DE958FA26E0&index=12&playnext=1

    seems to work well

  • ***THANKS*** for uploading this [1969 version of this] great 'classic' !

    ==

    > ENJOY!

    we do

    ==

    a PLAYLIST (LINKED-to from the vid.description) would be great-2-have

  • Damn...they just don't make this kind of music anymore and I'm only 38...

This is stands true and solid after so many, many years.

  • townsend the best rythm guitar in rock history

  • sounds as good as the album on stereo

  • testing here before i buy it at my local used cd shoppe...

after one song i am sold!

  • @tattoofthesun well I am glad you are a smart shopper... but there is no need to test The Who. lol

  • awesome

  • i really don't like this... but yeah, this is a great piece of art (i must recognize)! no doubt, the who is one of the best bands ever

  • a great rock opera tommy

  • F*cking beauty of a band, let me tell you a thing or two about a thing or two oohoohoohoo.

  • All these damned youtubes of the Overture suck - but I picked this one to favorite because the sound quality is the best. I know that doesn't sound like a compliment but it is one. I love this piece - one of my favorite Who pieces. Still makes my nipples stand up.

  • funi, the sound quality on this one sucks as much as any. it's not even 480p which is the dividing point in sound quality.

  • really??? mine always do ///

  • this one crescrendo! love the epicness of this! Ilisten to t his when i wake up in the morning (as well as Rush 2112)

  • the best , the who

  • que belleza

  • thank you so much for sharing ! one of the greatest musicals ever...

  • This is "The Real Deal Hollyfield"... Fantastic levels. Great Job, Thank You.

  • This music is awesome.

  • EPIC !! love it !!

  • I fucking love you!

  • Fabuleux !!!

  • ALBUM DOBLE DE 1969

  • the who rock

  • The thing I love about Tommy is the basic simplicity of it. The Who wanted an album they could play on stage so they avoided any fancy overdubs and stuck to the three band instruments plus vocals and a bit of piano and brass - essentially it's a live studio recording.

  • Love the comments by "youngsters". I'm 50, first saw The Who in New Orleans, Nov 1972 and my best friend & I saw them play many times-never missed an opportunity. Overture is still my fav! (I'm getting misty).

  • In the past there was a police serie here in the Netherlands ....MaCloud....(Dennis Weaver) ...and one saying ..he always said .....THERE YOU GO....hahahaha

I,am now 53 Know what you mean...

Greetzzz from Holland JOS....hear you BYYYY.......

  • Yes, 54 here, great band and album!

  • Comment removed

  • "What about the boy?"

  • lol

  • I want a Cheesburger

    Ann Margaret is Hot

  • I Want A Cheesburger

  • Those horns at the beginning give me a rush.

  • Same here! Love 'em. I hum them all throughout the day!

  • Rock at it's pinnacle.

    Epic. Masterful. Legendary.

  • The movie doesn't do the soundtrack any justice..................just forget it ever happened and listen to the WHO at their best.

  • I'll never forget the Fiddle About scene happenned because it was just amazing ! xD

  • Man, I was just in the mood to hear this album while doing some work at the office.

    Thanks for the upload!

  • Incredible.

  • I love this whole album but I think the

    movie blows chunks.

  • thanks for posting this, the "classic rock" stations would nver touch it

  • Ah god, the movie music is rubbish compared to this. Classic. Oh, minus cousin kevin.... he kicks ASS

  • Ye, all songs exept cousin kevin is better in this original version :P

  • This a rock n roll masterpiece!

  • I don't think there has been a rock-opera released that is better than Tommy (American Idiot was really good, but comes nowhere close).

  • american idiot? i know that was like a green day song? That album was a opera? it deffiniantly wasnt rock i know that.

  • Bo no means is "American Idiot" a Rock Opera....

  • Thanks, slycooper007! I awoke today with "Thee 'orrible 'oo" going thru me 'ead...what was it?...something from "Tommy" I was sure, but what? "It's A Boy", that's what. It would not stop playing and my cd of "Tommy" is far away from me now. You helped me to exercise the demons by uploading this classic Who record. Part two, anyone?

  • Pete, and the who..... genius..... i'm Italian...... uk music rocks ..... yehaaa..... the best ever in history of rock... Thanks.

  • I agree with my fellow italian brother The Who are the best band on the planet even better live.

  • agree

  • you got it

     rockin' in Texas

  • the drummin on this always gets me- fuckin great chops

  • quadrophenia is better, this is the first rock opera but quad was the perfection..

  • I love the album and the soundtrack. Youtube, where's the movie? I want the movie!

  • i miss music like this that has few words you don't have to keep up with.

  • I can describe Pete Townshend in one

    Word. Genius.

  • i can describe him in 3 words-

    absolute fuckin genius

  • @stresslie58 Genius is an understatement

  • I love this album! I adore the movie. We need more quality music like this!

Can someone explain the album art though... I never quite understood it... what is it?

  • I'm ordering this cd. Thank you, slycooper, for reminding me of what a real rock opera is. Pink Floyd's got nothing on this. And I'm a Queen fan!

  • I need the video for this. I havent seen the movie that changed my life forever {at age 5} since pbs stoped airing it

  • hacia 30 años que lo buscaba y por fin lo encontre. que gozada.

  • i can't wait till our marching band plays this for the first time on field, every game so far has been cancelled b/c of rain or we didn't go b'c were to big to fit :(

  • I feel Quadrophenia greatly trumps this album, but that doesn't mean it isn't great.

  • Had Lifehouse been made, it would've been the greatest.

  • I can only imagine... Are there any audio recordings out there of it? Bootlegs and the like?

  • Never made . . . script was written, but it was impossible to do as a play - they could make a movie but they never have.

  • No Quad will never be as good as this

  • unmatched

  • What about the boy?

    What about the boy?

    What about the boy?

  • When I was about 11 or 12 I bought this CD and listened to Captin Walker Verse over and over and over, atleast about 30 times. And now 10 years later I still do it, but now I can play it myself.

  • init!captain walker didnt come home, his unborn child would never know him, believed to be missin with hundreds of men, dont expect to see him again.quality mate!

  • Believe him missing with a number of men

i read you comment and got so scared! i looked up the words and its a number not hundreds. . . i love that verse and i thought i at least knew the words! lol but i do

  • how true old bean, how perceptive of you,it was indeed numbers and not hundreds as my ears foolishly led me to believe..i shall be collecting my hearin aid upon the morrow from the quacks,haha..damn the nhs, haha

  • Best album ever

    Best Band ever

I don't care what you say

I won't take it, never did, never will lmao

  • Tommy...can you hear me ?

    Tommy?

    Tommy?

    Tommy?

    Tommy?

  • SHATTUP!! ;-)

(That was a reply to TheWholigans.)

  • Subscribed. not only is this a good album, but so is the stuff you have by B.R.M.C. and The Strokes.

  • Greatest album ever!

  • WONDERFUL!

  • He tenido el enorme placer de sentir con mis oidos lo que es para mi,la obra cumbre de The Who. pensè que nunca mas iba a escuchar la versión original.

  • Mother fucker, you forgot Christian Vander...

  • "Listen to Tommy with a candle burning and you will see your entire future"

    indeed ;)

  • huh?

  • It's a quote from the movie "almost famous", I recommend it ;)

  • awwe. i love that movie. :) and tommy, but especially tommy.

  • i am doin that exact thing rite now lol

  • 1. Neil Peart (Rush) 2. John Bonham* (Led Zeppelin) 3. Carl Palmer (ELP) 4. Keith Moon* (The Who) 5. Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa) 6. Ginger Baker (Cream) 7. Hal Blaine (Session man) 8. Danny Carey (Tool) 9. Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson)

    10. Earl Palmer (Session man) According to The Rolling Stone

  • Was Terry just with frank or was he in the mothers as well

  • And Ringo! Basicall here's the to three:

    -Ringo

    -Keith

    -John

  • Ringo? I disagree. However his son is excellent. I would have to say Eddie Van Halen comes in at three

  • Want to hear something funny? Rolling Stone has the Drummer from Rush at number 1, Keith at 4th(i think) Bonhan at 2nd, and Ringo is at like 40 i think.

  • Neil Peart is outstandly good but i think Keith Moon is better. Who's number 3?

  • by the way its Alex Van Halen, eddie is guitar

  • Ooooops...sorry but, you knew what I meant :)

  • Tommy vs. Quadrophenia?

    Tommy vs. Sell Out?

    I like Tommy :)

  • i tell you what. tommy gets 5 stars, who's next gets 5 stars, quadrophenia gets 4 and a half stars.

  • Love this album! So much!!! I think the film was too complex (way too many variations--it was barely based on the album since Ken Russell wrote most of it with the exception of Pete Townshend's newly written songs) and the show was too simple (it was closer to the original force than the movie was, but there was a lot missing--more entertainment than brilliance). Some people prefer either one of these but I say the album beats all by 10 country miles. That's just my opinion, though.

  • just great!

  • as far as the actual song, its overture...or underture, Which is just a mesh of all the songs on the album onto one.(i forget which one is 1st and which is last). the second one is it's a boy andthe 3rd is 1921

  • TOMMY..... DUR!!

  • Which recording is this?

  • also presence.

  • PURE LEGEND

  • S.F. Sorrow is born! thanks for the posts!

  • Your welcome :)

  • who cares if its the BEST or SECOND best or whatever...as long as its a modern and enchanting and uplifting saga and story which it tells ....and so up to date ! in an evermore controlled, wired and drugged world full of TOMMYS, its more important than ever before to say aloud : WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT , NEVER DID AND NEVER WILL - ( did you know that pete townshend once commented on this sentence that by it he meant literally : " WE ARE NEVER GOING TO ACCEPT FASCISM " !)

  • Actually, that sentence was when the wishy-washy people that were only looking for a quick-fix began to turn on Tommy because he was making them obey rules if they wanted to follow him.

  • my favorite album

  • My favorite album ever.

  • Also Physical Grafitti.

  • That's what I thought when I started doing this, but other people have posted countless albums on YouTube and those videos are still there.

YouTube will take your videos off if its illegal.

  • Is this legal posting the whole Tommy album on youtube??

  • Thx dude love it.

  • Also Led Zeppelin 3.

  • Pure musical and lyrical genius. Absolutely one of the best albums ever made.

  • gotta love em

  • A million times better than the dross around these days. BRITISH LEGENDS.

  • What is then?

  • brilliant, cheers mush
