  • Hey Glenn, just learning about the k4... my wife plays keyboard and I play mostly acoustic guitar and ukulele, I've heard the Traynor k4 works well with acoustic instruments... I'm looking for an amp that we could use for acoustic uke or guitar with a keyboard for small coffe shop type performances and home use... whats your take on the K4 for acoustic amplification?. I have a taylor 514 ce with a LR baggs DI box for my main insturment...always small venues Thanks!

  • @oceanbound22 The K-4 really would be perfect for that kind of setup. In addition to running your wife's keyboard & your guitar through the K-4 you could also connect a CD player to play along with tracks if you like.

  • When you say DIRECT out from XLR's, does that mean ZERO tone modification and basically working as a straight bypass ?

Or Does the XLR outs give the tube warmth as well when engaged?

  • @MikeyGee001 Yes the XLR outs pass the signal going in to the outputs with all of the settings from the K4 added including the tube section if you want it.

  • What kind of usb cable do u use for the gt 10?

  • @XLR8Guitars It uses a standard USB printer cable.

  • Glen' great demo, good playing, fantastic amp. Only criticism would be the lead sound at the end doesn't,t cut through the mix enough and is eaten by the backing track. Paul

  • when i downloaded your patches, it turns into a sonar midi file, the librarian don't recognize it, any help?

  • @garbz24 Have you loaded other patches into your Gt-10 or is it just mine giving you trouble?

  • @extremevideopro yes, i have loaded other patches downloaded from the boss website and it worked.........actually when i first downloaded your patches it worked, but when i opened it again after a few days it turned into a sonar midi file, so i deleted the file and downloaded it again from your website, when i unrar it, its still a sonar midi file..........thanks for the reply glenn, much appreciated

  • @garbz24 It sounds like SONAR has taken over your computers MIDI files. You have to un-associate MIDI files with Sonar. Just right click on the file and look for "Open File With"

  • @extremevideopro

sorry for disturbance but you use stack/return with this keyboard amp too ?

  • im asking because i do have a fender kxr100 keyboard amp with 15 inch speaker and dual piezo horns...but the sound is bad it needs lotta tweaking in LINE/PHONES mode...but its soo much better and closed to the ones through earphones when i choose STACK.RETURN mode..and using amp modelling...so im just confused why its v good with ur keyboard amp!

  • Did you use the Satriani patch also for the short lead at the intro? Thanks for sharing your impressions and patches.

  • @Aristowi Yes I did.

  • I am going to use the same amp. What settings should I use to make good sound.

  • Hi I am from grecce. I have the gt 10 connected to a Behringer gmx212 amp using the ext loop feature. It sounds much better but will i have problem later with my amp later? And what settings do I have to do so I can have a good result... Thanks

    Mario from Greece!!!

  • @MariosNayplio Greetings Mario, so what amp will you be using later??

  • Beautiful song/melody that you open with there!

  • @shmuelnahum Thank you

  • And of course thanks always for your tips on the Gt-10!

  • Hey awesome playing! I have a gt 10 and realize that it sounds SOOOOO much better when I plug headphones directly into it instead of plugging straight into the amp. Does going stereo make it sound like it would going through the headphones?

  • @rokguitarist1 Only if you have a stereo Keyboard amp like I use in this video. For a tradition al amp you have to have separate patches and a different output mode. I use Stack/Return.

  • ive seen alot of your videos and u got lots of guitars, and every guitar sounds different using your gt10 i think some sound better than others. what pickups would you say go best with the gt10?

  • @rickru1 Hey Rick, yes I am very fortunate to have the guitars that I own. Which pick-ups sound best? Hmmm. I think just going straight into the GT-10 and recording direct I would have to say that my PRS sounds very good BUT on my latest Blues album I used this Tele I have that I changed out the pick-ups to the Seymour Duncan SHR1 Hot Rails and it sounded amazing for direct recording so I would say in all of my guitars, those pick-ups probably sound the best with the GT-10.

  • @extremevideopro hmmm, ill check out your website and listen.. thanks for the info.

  • Hello!!...a question: What do you think about to use the JC-120 Roland Amplifier??...is it good to conect the GT-10 ??..Doesnt it change the tones of GT-10??...Thank you very much for your help!!

  • @ZISSMO Yes the JC-120's are very good with the GT-10. It doesn't change the tones at all.

  • Ever think about creating a Carlos Santana patch?

  • Hi! Glenn, on your PA, do you have a particular setting or you're using default setting. Thanks, very nice explanations as always. Bye!

  • @coeurvaillan2470 The sounds guys usually set my channels flat.

  • HEY MAN.... YOUR VIDEO NEVER SICK MYSELF.....YOUR PLAYING IS VERY GOOD LIKE ALWAYS..... THANK YOU FOR POSTING... 5 STARS

  • @rdt78 Grazie

  • @extremevideopro prego... ^^

  • what patch are you using at minute 4:33? It sounds awesome!!!

  • @musiclives3 I think that's my Vintage Crunch

  • Hello Glenn!!

Thank you for your dedication to sharing your knowledge here. Your playing is great to listen to and watch! I am wanting to ask here if I'm understanding what I have gotten from watching your vids. I am waiting for my GT10 to be delivered.

1 With your amp use only the effects not amp models.

2 With your DAW you can use both amp and effect models.

3 The K4 amp allows you to use your amp/cab models and effects because it does not assert it's own tone.

    Thanks

  • @pakblueman Yes, Yes & Yes. Thank you.

  • Thanks for this vid. You just sold a K4 today as a matter of fact.

I also use a GT-10, as well as a GR-33 guitar synth live. I'm fond of playing stereo when I can, so this will be perfect. I'll be able to get my stereo sound, not have to worry about monitoring for the synth, only need one channel into the PA, and I'll have an extra channel to use as a vocal monitor if I want.

    thanks bud!

  • @GregGirardin Yeah that should be a really cool setup.

  • Thanks very much for this great demo. I play keyboard and 2nd lead guitar in a classic rock band around Los Angeles ( aband.com ) and have just ordered a K4 to be my onstage keyboard amp/monitor. While I also use a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for my guitar this video shows that I could also use the K4 for my guitar as well.

And apart from showing off the features of the K4 you also play a great guitar. Thanks a lot.

  • @nigelgspencer Cool, yes you could do both jobs with this one amp for sure.

  • What do you think about the traynor amps when using them for keyboards?

  • @mattliebl6199 The K4 and even the lower models are just great for Keyboards. Go for the K-4 if you can. All reviews are good!!

  • @extremevideopro thanks. now, i know its all personal opinion but how would you compare traynor with the other keyboard amp companies?

  • @mattliebl6199 Well forget Roland. Not even in the same class as IMHO. Maybe an upper end Barbetta but still the K-4 gives you so many options. There really isn't nothing out there like it really.

  • @extremevideopro cooool. well i dont think i need 300 watts for my band so i think i would go with the K1 which is 120 watts. Thanks for all your help i really appreciate it

  • @mattliebl6199 Good choice. Check out the K2 also. My philosophy when buying equipment is; Figure out what you need then add a couple few hundred dollars more and get what you want. It's always worth the extra money.

  • @extremevideopro sounds good to me. My last question is what does the gain, treble, and bass do on a keyboard amp?

  • @mattliebl6199 Same thing it does on a regular amp.

  • @extremevideopro is there any way to adjust the low, mid, and highs on the traynor keyboard amps?

  • @mattliebl6199 Yes the K4 has bass, mid, & treble controls as well as a voicing control. Check a screen shot of the front panel on google.

  • @extremevideopro Alright sounds good. Thanks for the help.

  • Comment removed

  • @SteveF0xx I always use Studio Direct mode

  • I've just been enjoying some of your reviews and videos. You're freakin' awesome. And better still, you play with your fingers like I do... though I'm not nearly as good. BTW, I hope Traynor sends you a big fat cheque every so often, because I'm sure alot of amps get sold because of your reviews, your sound and your talent.

  • @itsonlyrcknroll Thank you very much.

  • I'm just curious, which do you prefer, a POD X3 Live, or a GT10?

  • Hey Glenn, sounds great as always! What do you use to record the video for your great clips? The audio and video always sound and look awesome, and seem to synch up really well. How do you achieve such a professional result, if you don't mind me asking?

  • You sound great! Tell me what is the advantage of using a Traynor K4 with your Boss GT-10 instead of using the cheaper Tech 21 power engines? Is it the tubes?

  • Well the main advantage is the K-4 is a stereo amp with L&R XLR outs. So patches that sound good with headphones and direct to PA also sound good with the K-4.

  • Hey Glen.

Which amp do you use currently, the K-4 or the YCS50? And which one do you prefer?

  • I'm using the YCS50 right now but they both have different applications. When I need stero sound direct to PA and also sound on-stage I use the K-4. If I only need mono and micing the cabinet I use the YCS50 with a THD 2x12 extension cab. Although the K-4 sounds great mic'd as I demonstrate in this video

  • @extremevideopro Okay. But is there any difference in the tone? And how much do these amps cost?

  • They are pretty close sound wise because I have created patches for both amps. They cost around $950.00 ea. The only way I am able to afford these things is because I am a working musician and I invest the majority of my earnings back into my gear. I feel very fortunate to be able to earn the money I need to make the purchases I need to do my job.

  • I have a rental K4 sitting in my studio, that I think I'll buy ($1025 CDN new, $800 CDN for the rental one). I love it, for use with my Roland Fantom XR. Out of all the other stereo keyboard amps out there, this is definitely the best bang for the buck. Thanks for demo-ing it for me to see, before renting it for a month. :)

  • Glenn, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your time and help. I'm going to experiment with this tonight, and hopefully get out of your hair. You are amazingly helpful and patient with alot of people when it comes to the GT-10. We all thank you! By the way, I purchased your FUSION III record from Itunes yesterday, and it is fantastic. The playing, and the tones are outstanding. Thanks again!

    Scott

  • Thank you very much for your support Scott. I really appreciate it! :-)

  • Glenn, I have familiarized myself with the ASSIGN Function on the GT-10. I guess my question now is what effect do you assign for BOOST thru the FS-5U? For live performance, I typically disable preamp (but not always)and cabs and just go with the OD on the clean channel of my amp. Is there a consistent effect that you use for BOOST exclusively, or does it depend on what is not in use on a particular patch? Thanks for your enduring patience!!!!

    Scott

  • Hey Scott, for boost I use an assign and program the OD with more drive and level. So when I want a boost I step on CTL3 and it turns the drive up and the level of the OD. You can do lots of things with the assigns. You can also assign an EQ on/off or mid boost using the same CTL3. Just use a different assign. You can control up to 8 functions with 1 press of the CTL pedal. Pretty cool stuff. This is why I am sold on the GT-10 for now!! I guess I'm a control freak LOL!!

  • Thank you Glenn! That certainly clears that up for me! Can't wait to utilize them with your patches. Thanks a million!!!!!!

  • Thanks Glenn! I downloaded those (your)patches last week, even though I didn't have the additional pedals at the time. It seems that unlatched means that the pedal is engaged as long as you are holding it down. As opposed to the FS-5L, which is engaged until you step on the pedal again. If that's true, the FS-5L might be what I need. Does this sound right to you? I am looking forward to utilizing the full brunt of your patches with the additional pedals, either way.

  • No, the FS-5U's work as a regular pedal. You can however program the GT-10 to make the pedal act like that if you want to though. Trust me, they work as a regular pedal, press on and it stay on until you press again.

  • Glenn, I think that I'm going to buy an FS-5U pedal today. And use it (almost) exclusively for BOOST on certain patches. Would you agree with that direction? If it works, it would be alot cheaper than buying the FULLTONE GT-500 (which I love, by the way). What does "Latched" and "Unlatched" mean exactly...concerning the FS-5U pedal. Thanks for all of your help, Glenn. Sorry to keep hounding you!!!

    Scott

  • Hey Scott, no problem man. I think the difference has something to do with the way the switch engages. I just use the FS-5U which is unlatch type. You should download my patches and try some of them out because they are already programmed for the FS-5U's using them as a boost. It will save you alot of time trying to figure out how to assign the parameters.

  • Thank you so much Glenn! I will definitely investigate that. You're the best!!

    MANY THANKS!!!!

  • Glenn, if I'm playing a particular patch (a rock sound), how would I boost the sound for lead using that same patch...without having to involve the volume pedal. Is there a way to assign a boost to one of the CTRL pedals or would I just buy a boost pedal such as a FULLTONE GT-500? This would be for live performance...by the way!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated....as always.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • Yes you can. In fact that is what I am doing on several patches now. Using the assigns you can raise the level of the preamp or even the OD stomp gain level. It's sounds complicated but once you see how to do it's very easy. I need to do a video on this because it's too much to explain here but you can figure it out just like I did. Just look at the Assigns menu. You have 8 different things you can have a pedal do by "assigning" tasks to any pedal you want. I use my external FS-5Us for this.

  • hi... i have a gt 10... can u teld me how to save my patch in the pc.. plase.. =D

  • hi there, love your playing, do you think the roland sa-300 would also be a good option to use for the gt-10? 350watt stage amp apparently also great for keys, I'm looking at one to use for both guitar with gt-10 and two synths?

  • Wow, that looks like a pretty nice rig. It should work fine with the GT-10.

  • Hi youre really good!! i enter in your blog... and download your patches... ive listen some and i liked it... but... what is unzip..? how do i unzip a zip file? please tell me D=

  • right click on the file and select "Extract Here". If you don't it, then you need to download the program WinZip. Just google it you will find it. It is a free program.

  • Isn't this a keyboard amp? How does that work out?

  • Well it works out well. Keyboard amps usually work well with modelers. This amp is very loud, it has stereo inputs and it also has direct outs to the board so you don't need DI's. Or you can mic the speakers as I do in this video.

  • Hi sir..witch gadget would you recommend Boss GT-10 or Line 6 Pod x3 live..thanks

  • Hi Glenn. Do you have some nice patches of the GT 10 without the preamps that I can download?. Thanks

  • Hi Glenn. as I told you before, I have a Gt10 hooked to a blackstar dual ht distortion pedal. I use a fender Vibroking, this is an all tube amp. and the sound that I get is not as good as I want. I am wondering in wheter I should change and buy the Traynor K4.I`ve read about the fender supersonic, is also an all tube amp. What do you think?. Thanks

  • I've been experimenting with a new Traynor amp, the YCS50. This is a great match for the GT-10. The best sounds i get with the amp are with the GT-10 used as effects only. You can use the OD/Stomps in the GT-10 to get your gain. I am very pleased with the results I am getting. Try using only the OD/stomps in the GT-10 for your distortion. Don't even use the GT-10 preamps. Let your amp provide that.

  • Is also on your next album? When is it coming out and how will I be able to buy it? What is the name of this patch? Sorry for all the questions, Glenn!

  • Working on the new stuff now. I hope to have something out by spring 2010. The patch I am using in this demo is my Satriani patch. You can download it from my Patch Download Area on my blog.

  • Hi Glenn.

Thanks for all your comments your help is highly appreciated.I would like to do my own videos.I have an Imac that I just bought but am not too familiar with it. Could you tell me what program you use in order to get so good and nice sound videos?

  • I use an HD video camera and I record the audio into my computer recording software at the same time i am videoing. I then mix the 2 together using Sony Vegas Pro 8.

  • Hi Glen,

I just ordered the K4. How do you run it in stereo? Thanks

    Jorge

  • Just connect a stereo source L&R to any of the 4 inputs on the front.

  • great tunes, great performance, you're a master, you have the complete set of toys. watching your videos, I start thinking to make questions, but these questions are too many.

  • Very cool amp, Glenn, I see why you use it! Great fidelity in reproducing what you have coming out of the GT10

  • Hi Glenn,

I own a GT-10 as well and found the Boss Cosm modeling wanting on the dynamics and warmness of valve preamps. But again, I never ran the GT on an amp like this. How do you find it? Have you ever looked for a tone that the GT-10 just didn't deliver? Because it did happen to me, quite often actually (I'm not into utter distortion or OD).

I can only compensate that by bypassing the Cosm preamp modeling and using the GT-10 as a simple pedal board.

  • You can find the amp by google Traynor K-4. Honestly, I have never not been able to get a certain type of tone I wanted to copy. Ultimately I want to have tones that are of my own creation but I di use my own "artist" tones from time to time.

  • Thanks for the feedback! From what I see on your videos, you've managed to take some awesome tones from your gear.

By the way, great videos, they live up to your user name ;) The "around the world in 10 min" is great, got some nostalgia from Germany going...

Subscribed, rated 5/5 and forwarded! Cheers.

  • This amp reproduces the tones really well. I think Im getting one!

    JP

  • Nice man...sounds real good. I have been eying one of those amps for my Axe Fx. Thanks...I think I'm convinced!

  • Very good sound mate, but when I going to do a tune with the sound of Malmsteen with the X3?

  • Hey Glenn!

I figured you'd do a demo of the K4 eventually. i have been looking at keyboard amps ever since I found your channel for my guitar setup. Ialso have a GT-10. What exactly does the term "color the sound" mean and do a lot of musicians prefer this choice of amp when using digital modelers?

  • Keyboard amps have a wide dynamic range. Usually 20hz to 20khz. and the cabinet and speakers don't have any type of EQ curve to the. That's why they are called FRFR or Flat Range Flat Resonse. Traditional amps & cabs are not like this.

  • If I may ..

What he means by COLOR is the nuance of the amp adds sound/tone to your already created GT (or any modeller) patches. A guitar amp PRE-Amp will add a COLOR.

The reason these sort of amps are PERFECT for modellers is simple because it take the EXACT sound you have created (with headphones lets say) and simply amplifies it. Your sound does not get altered do to the amps COLORING ....

  • -- Continued --

I currently run my GT into two Actives. I also at times run into a 4x12 cab, but the amp head I use I run as a POWER AMP which bypasses the preamp and simple amplifies my GT patches.

  • Thanks Mikey.

  • Mikey & Glenn:

Thanks for clearing that up for me guys!!

  • No issue.

    Glad to help out

  • Nice video man!

  • I was hoping to like this amp. But all the tones you demo'd sound the same. Diff dist levels but the only real difference I heard were with changes to the guitar. And all those sound stuck in a freq range.

  • Wow you pretty much nailed that Satch tone!

  • Sadly I was frustrated with my gt-10. Its sooo much work, so I'm selling it and getting a few nice individual pedals like wah, and line 6 dl4

  • The line 6 X3 is easy to use and sounds great.

  • Hey

What is your OUTPUT setting ?? Line out ??

I would assume you would want to use the AMP models and speakers sims.

  • Hey Mikey, yes Line/Phones is my output mode on the GT-10.

  • NICE

Will this amp also power my 4x12 STEREO cab if I wanted to do that as an option ??

  • yes it has a subwoofer out but you can hook it up to any cab. Not stereo though cos' it sums the L&R channels to the output.

  • About your picking stlye- I saw your demo vid, but can you sweep well with that kind of thumb movement

  • Yes sweeps are very easy to do with a thumb pick.

  • I want video proof :p

    Nice video man.

  • Hi Glenn! I have a Traynor YCV40 with my gt-10 and it's a good choice too. I compare is tone with a MS250 and it sounds better. Thanks for your advices.!

  • this guys awesome

  • Hi glenn, could you help me out?

I have got a boss me-70, an Ibanez Prestige guitar and a blackstar ht-5 combo. I would like to record lined in, so i'm wondering how i could do that? Do i just plug the guitar in to the boss which goes to the blackstar ht-5 and then take a mono cable and put it in the rec out/phones on the boss? I'm very nooby with this stuff, so please help me out :D

    My regards.

  • You can either go directly out of the ME-70 into your audio card or you could hook the ME-70 to the HT-5 and mic the cabinet or you can do both at the same time.

  • But if I would try the line in theory. What kind of cable would i need? a mono/stereo?

  • standard guitar cable would work.

  • for some reason i think this amp is pretty expensive ;)

    You rock dude !

  • Some nice mic's you're runnin Glenn :)

Again, really nice sounds with the GT-10, what song did you play in the intro though? I remember it's a satch tune but which one I have idea.... =/

  • It's called "Overdriver" from Joe Satriani's latest album entitled "Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock" I cover the intro and also the middle of the song for the end of my demo video.

  • Hmm of all albums, I forget a song from the one I have signed by the man? damnit! well, it just means I have to listen to it again.

    Thanks!

  • How you get a quality of the sound like this О_о awesome

  • You mean like quality of sound on youtube?? I render my video to MP4 codec. That seems to be the best for youtube.

  • as always good tone and great playing. i got the gt-10 and it sounds really good with my amp, i guess it just depends on how much you tweak the boss eh? Keep rocking, and let me know if you go on tour or something! id love to see wat you can do live

  • How much does a setup like that go for?

  • Google Traynor K-4. You will find it.

  • amp $959.00 gt10 is 499

  • Hello Glen,

Great demo video. I think you have the #1 sound quality videos on you tube. Also you explain things extremely well! Really enjoyed "The Trees" cover you did. Question: Where do you play live? It's would be cool to see one of your gigs.

  • Hey Thanks!! Unfortunately right now I am doing only private corporate events. Every now & then I have a show open to the public but not very often. In the near future if I ever do have an event open to the public I will surely let everyone here know. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • That's an awesome looking amp. Really like the XLR outs I do have that on my pod x3 at least lol. Just curious though for recording what do you gravitate towards more, XLR to PC, USB to PC or from what I have read still the best setup for most organic sound a studio quality microphone hooked up the amps sweet spot? Sometimes I think maybe if I just get a good cam that pic's up audio good and play with the volume levels on my amp I should hopefully get a good enough organic sound.

  • For recording I just go L&R output into my computer audio interface. It has served me well for the past several years no matter what brand of modeler I use. But as you can see by this demo you can get a good sound from mic's as well.

  • hey man nice amp and setup !

maby you can a video on how to position the mic for the amp? and just how to record like you do it to have a great sound :)

  • great video :)
