i hope LA falls into the pacific. then the resigents can finish the job a small group tried to do back in the day... i was a resident of bishop before i went into the marines and when i go back every other year i can see how much of the plant life is dying off as a result of the water theft. inyo needs to rise up and take back the valley from LA by force!
According to geologist Pierre Saint-Amand, due to the specific mineralogy of the sediments found on the surface of Owens Lake, pumping water onto the surface is exacerbating the dust problem there; not to mention the half-billion dollar money pit that this so-called "project" on the surface of the lake is costing L.A. taxpayers. See Jeffery Anderson's front-page article in the March 24-30, 2006 issue of the L.A. Weekly for the details.
@lctrout Who is Pierre Saint-Amand? A geologist from Ridgecrest who works for himself. He runs a private consulting company.
A simpified version of his research on Owens Lake sediments appeared in the March 24-30, 2006, vol 28, no 18 issue of the LA Weekly. I don't know if this is online or not. I have a hard copy of the paper.
What is your motivation for asking? Do you work for one of the companies raking in the cash from L.A. with the endless boondoggle of a project on the lake surface?
Contact Saint-Amand and ask him yourself about his motivation. Why should I speak for him?
@lctrout I will tell you that Saint-Amand was studying the mineralogy of the Owens Lake surface back in the 1980s; a long time before the current boondoggle was even a thought. He has published work on the topic in the journal Bulletin of the Geological Society of America, amongst other venues.
@lctrout Well, now, I'd say his "motivation" is science.
And the motivation for the boondogglers and the current project? Answer: Big $.
If you're serious & you want more info, then do the work. Find the LA Weekly article, read Saint-Amand's writings, or seek out Saint-Amand himself. I'm not going to do the work for you.
@bapyou What is Mr Saint-Amands relationship to the "boondogglers"? Do they know of him? Did he work for them at one time? Did he want to work for them at one time? Was he at the negotiating table when the research and mitigation strategy was being formed? Did he want to be? Is he an environmentalist? Was his research rejected by the "boondogglers"? Does he have an alternative to the current plan?
@lctrout Saint-Amand was doing work on Owens Lake prior to the inception of the boondoggle. Seek out his writings. I've given you the references.
Do you work for the "boondogglers"? What's your stake in this? Why are you interested in the Owens Lake dust problem?
Until you answer my questions, I'll answer no more of yours. And, with respect to Saint-Amand, you're going to have to seek out more information on your own.
@bapyou So are you saying that Mr Saint-Amand knows he doesn't agree with the current mitigation plan, but doesn't know what a better alternative would be? Or are you saying that he needs further research to complete his studies and come up with a better plan? One question that comes to mind would be, who is funding Mr Saint-Amands research? Another would be, is he latest thesis and study and findings on the subject peer reviewed?
@lctrout Since you've answered none of my questions, I will answer no more of yours. I've given you enough information as it is. If you're intrigued about Mr. S-A's work, seek out his writings or the man himself.

17776000 people living in a place where there is no natural source of water. This is a disaster waiting to happen.
